Thank you sir! That will do me nicely for some test printing. Got it on Thingiverseby NumberSix - Reprappers
Thanks for all for great comments. Here’s some specific feedback on some of the questions raised… Brnrd: I’ll take on board what you are saying about a 10mm cube is too small a printable item without cooling. Taking other comments on-board also, I may look for a larger simple test piece, possibly one solid and one single-wall hollow. If anyone can point me to suitable STLs of send me some via PMby NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi all, Your comments and guidance would be most welcome, as I attempt to increase the accuracy of my little repstrap. I've had a few enthusiastic days now of printing various things and have been quite happy with the intial results. I did give reasonable consideration to Skeinforge (v41) settings and calibrated my firmware's Steps_per_mm 'magic number' also before printing some calibration pieceby NumberSix - Reprappers
Progress report... This past weekend saw a singnificent milestone reached as I got my repstrap to print for the first time! Happy days! More detail on my blog: Regards, No.6by NumberSix - Reprappers

There's no problem with turning the Gen6 off at any stage. As jcabrer says, the warning is don't connect or disconnect anything from the board while it's on. Best of luck with your build. No.6by NumberSix - Reprappers
Extruder design and construction well under way at the moment. Not exactly an off-the-shelf approach so I expect to have to do quite a bit of testing and tweaking! All good fun!by NumberSix - Reprappers
Nice one Macsoft, obviously another man like myself, wandering the universe thinking "Hmmm... I wonder if I could use that on my RepRap build?" What did you use to attach the threaded bar to the 'coupling'? Did you just file down the treads a bit by hand? Regards, No.6by NumberSix - General
Quick update... progress has been steady these past few weeks, with a significant milestone passed recently. I got the electronics connected up and the printer moving enough to check x,y and z directions and rough caligrations. Also, I have the optos fitted so it's travelling to an x,y,z home position when I hit the 'Home all' button in RepSnapper software. I've no extruder built or fitted yetby NumberSix - Reprappers
Great post! Excellent detail and brilliant use of FLIR camera. I also like the lateral use of off-the-shelf parts. I look forward to any more detail with the FLIR camera, and maybe even some more photos, when you get time. Tks, No.6by NumberSix - General
Welcome to the site Oliver. The build looks good so far. What electronics do you plan on using? Best of luck with it. No.6by NumberSix - General
Nice work Gary!by NumberSix - General
Hi James, I just bumped into the same problem as you. I took the software approach, not wanting to swap the wiring around on just one motor. How'd you get on with the Optos? I had to make a firmware change to accommodate those also. It was a bit of a learning curve. There's a bunch to learn about changing the firmware, recompiling and re-downloading to the Gen6 electronics. If you have the "TCSby NumberSix - Reprappers
Thanks so much everyone! I think I've got it now! The y-axis endstop goes to the rear, and conforms to the statement that the endstops are at the negative ends of the axis, because the extruder head is at the negative end of the y-axis when the table is fully to the rear of it's travel! ... the bed is moving in y-axis, not the head! Doh! Thanks guys! Brilliant!by NumberSix - Reprappers

Hi Spacexula, Thanks for your reply. That makes good sense on why the motor is now at the front. That video clip walk-through (you linked to above) on the endstop positions is what's adding to my confusion though, and is in the wiki also. In the audio commentary on the video the guy admits that his endstops are in the wrong position compared to the wiki instructions, but he got his positions byby NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi All, At this stage of construction, I’m about to fit the x, y and z (min) end-stops and would appreciate some clarification on the position of these. I’m building a Prusa Mendel ‘repstrap’ and going to use Gen6 electronics and ‘opto’ endstops. I’ve read through the wiki section on Prusa construction (http://www.reprap.org/wiki/Prusa), specifically the “Wiring and Electronics” section, paragraby NumberSix - Reprappers
Welcome to RepRap world Michael! You'll be looking for a lot more tools, and hopefully finding them before the project is done! Keep us posted. No.6by NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi all, A very interesting 3D Printing related news item appeared on the Science & Environment section of BBC News on-line. Here's the link: There are further 3D printing related articles towards the end of the first article. (Hope it's not a re-post) Enjoy, No.6by NumberSix - General
Hi Buback, Glad you posted regarding your addition to the wiki. I find there is so much on the wiki it's hard to track or even realize when/where new stuff has been added. Might you know if there is a change log of sorts which shows 'what's new' by date? Anyway, not that critical. Glad I caught your post. I like your improvement. I'm not in a position to try it out. Still building. I'll keep anby NumberSix - New Jersey RepRap User Group
Extruder nozzle heater - possible ‘alternative’ approach? Hi folks, (have done a bit of searching and can’t find any similar discussion – forgive me if I’ve missed it). I have a little glue-gun that appears to heat the nozzle by powering, what actually look like ‘thermistors’ that are embedded directly in the nozzle ( I know!... usually associated with controlling temperature, not generating heaby NumberSix - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Hi Tony, Welcome to the world of RepRap! I see from your other post that you plan to build a Huxley. Why have you chosen that model? I'm building a Prusa-Mendel 'repstrap'. Not quite a 'reprap' since I'm using wood instead of plastic. My starting point was to study the construction and critical components of the Prusa Mendel from the pictures and videos that are out there, then I did my own drawby NumberSix - Reprappers

Hi Nigel, Sorry to hear you are thinking of selling-on. Best of luck with the sale of your parts. I've no specific interest in any of your items, but am interested in hearing even some short feedback from you on what you feel formed the major technical obstacles to successful completion of your machine. To me it's important that these devices become easier and easier to build by home enthusiastsby NumberSix - Reprappers
Best of luck with your build Thaed. What electronics have you gone for? I've gone with Gen6 and just waiting on the electronics and motors to arrive now so I can crack on with construction. You should start a blog or post a few photos as you go! Everyone's interested in how builds are coming along. Worth sharing your progress. Regards, No.6by NumberSix - Reprappers

Hi Bo, That's a very astute assessment of the current situation, and, to me, you have narrowed it down to one of the best distilations of all of the possible variations out there. If I had some spare cash I'd order that one in the morning, just to have an excellent starting point! As to how future proof it is... That's coming together nicely Macsoft! You're not hanging about! I'm close to ordering electronics/motors/extruder etc. myself so have been watching the replies you are getting. There's lots of judgment calls to be made as you work your way through what's needed, and a lot of reading and learning. All good fun. I too have been leaning towards Gen6, it being sourced in Europe and an all-in oneby NumberSix - General
