Thats what i thought, but dont worry, its only temporary i swear, ill print a new prusa and make that my nice new "perfect" one. Until then, i only home, or what passes for homing at my house at the start of a print, so not too much of a problem, for now...by Ollie - General
this was the first heat up of this hot end as well :/ oh well, ordered s'more wire so should be here soon to destroy another oneby Ollie - General
Don't shoot me for this, but I use marlin with pronterface but scraped the idea of using endstops. Works fine, even homes perfectly. ^.^by Ollie - General
Although it looks like a mechanical fault, I wouldn't mind that on my prints, looks pretty cool...by Ollie - General
Upon playing around with my heater's temperature, merely hitting the 200C mark, I noticed large plumes of smoke coming from the cemented monstrosity that was my hot end. So I duely backed off the temperature to say 160C. The smoke went away, but so did the heat, now it only stays at room temperature. So, figuring I has blown yet another MOSFET I checked with my multimeter, but no, it was still woby Ollie - General
Hi Nelson, Wow, how did I miss that... Cheers! You just saved me hours of frustration Ollieby Ollie - General
Okay, so I finally got my contraption to stop making pieces of modern art and to start on making something more square, except that the extruder stepper doesn't seem to want to move during printing, but will happily extrude cm after cm when manually told to do so. It's receiving power to stay in place, so is there something wrong with the firmware? I haven't really changed much, so I'm not sure.by Ollie - General
I use ramps 1.2 and I find that some software doesn't agree with the firmware that I have on it, but that may be just me. Ollieby Ollie - General
Will do! I ordered a bunchby Ollie - General
Ah thanks, my hot end is of um "unique" design, basically what I had to hand tool wise with a bit of scap brass and sloppily coated in fireplace cement. I had the idea of watercooling the top of the barrel, much like that in my computer, but never got round to doing it. In time, I'm sure it'll get done. But for now, I'm sure I can find some spare fans around here. Thanks, Ollieby Ollie - General
I've just finished watching the Gremlins, so can u guess what i think it is? ;Dby Ollie - General
Hi again, Okay, when my hot end decides it wants to work and gets up to temperature, i can manually feed with ease a good 30 to 40mm of filament quickly through, but then it becomes increasingly harder in the space of a couple of seconds, until i can no longer push it through, then retracting the non melted filament and trying again 30 seconds later i get the same effect. I've currently got notby Ollie - General
ill order the second one then, in surplus, hopefully ill get them tomorrow to get this thing working ^.^by Ollie - General
Hmm, okay, so i need a protected mosfet, would one of these do? http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/STP75NF75-Mosfet-T0220-80A-75V-47-5622 http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/VNP49N04-Protected-Mosfet-42V-49A-47-0400 If anything, my current setup uses shorter wires than the regular mendel, ill try and find my stash of diodes round here for now though...by Ollie - General
That was a very interesting read Doug, surely rapid switching isnt that necessary? and how wide did you make your temp band? Soldering LEDs to the mosfet outputs is actually a pretty good idea, although my soldering skills in small spaces leaves alot to be desired... I dunno Keith, I've only tried mosfets in fairness, but its worth a try Ollieby Ollie - General
I like your thinking Keith ^.^by Ollie - General
Hi Andrew, Yeah, they probably are overloaded, hopefully using a relay could possibly help this, they seem to be dying quicker and quicker, ive had like 3 already this month... I've never heard of Thyristers Keith, any good? Ollieby Ollie - General
PID control I have never touched on at all, so hopefully it's not on....by Ollie - General
I'm not too sure what would need to be changed firmware wise tho, if anything. Or am I just over complicating things to an extent where my brain hurts?by Ollie - General
Okay, so I've had a couple of mosfets go to electronic heaven recently and I was wondering. How easy would it be to control a relay from a mosfet for heating? Putting less power through the transistors, making them less prone to breaking. So is it even feasible to change the firmware for say, Marlin on ramps? Just a thought. Ollieby Ollie - General
Ah, so I think I'll make a point to get some thermal paste at the nex opportunity. I was using the thermal pads for a while, but they didn't stick well to uneven or spherical surfaces. I'll see how the superglue holds up on a mosfet, lucky I have some spares lying around incase ;Dby Ollie - General
When you finally run out of thermal adhesive glue, you start to think. Is there a cheaper alternative? Just as a matter of interest, who uses what? Ollieby Ollie - General
Okay, well with my "extensive" knowledge of electronics, I decided to swap the heater over to another adjacent MOSFET and reprogrammed the firmware accordingly, however the mintemp alarm keeps stopping my attempts to heat, I think this may have happened at the same time the mosfet blew >.> but it's still reading fine and my mintemp on the firmware is 0 Celsius so I'm not sure what I've buggby Ollie - General
Hi Doug, It's the extruder heater, I did a quick run over of the board, but it all looked fine, but I've never had one die on me so I don't know what to look for Your hack sounds pretty interesting, I'd like to hear more Ollieby Ollie - General
Okay, this has totally confused me and I'm at a loss for what to do really xD so unexpectantly, out of the blue my ramps has decided that even when it's been told to stop, it wants to put ~9.5v through my heater (my psu currently gives ~ 11.5v into the ramps atm) ,and the only way to stop it heating is to turn off the psu. I've check for any shorts or problems with the boards, but it hasn't beenby Ollie - General
Before you go out and buy another psu, lemmie just clarify something, does the psu turn itself off after ramps starts to heat the bed? As this could mean u have a short between the live and ground wire. Not that I've done that before or anything...by Ollie - RAMPS Electronics
I haven't tried it without the extruder yet, but applying extra force with the extruder it goes through fine. I've tried it at 200 degrees, but I only made it yesterday, :/ wow this one got blocked quickly, ill open it up and share my findings, thanks Misanby Ollie - General
Dear all, I'm having some trouble with extruding 3mm filament thru the accessible wade's extruder. I've tried speeds as low as 10mm and varied the strength of the Idler, but nothing seems to be working. I was thinking that it could be the sharpness of the hob? Or is there something that I'm missing? Thanks, Ollie.by Ollie - General
Hmm... I'll look into that, thanks!by Ollie - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Hi! I'm having some problems with the movement of my extruder on ReplicatorG, it just seems to twitch once and that's all it does :/ I was running Kliment's Printrun software, and the extruder was working just fine with that. But i can't jog or move the extruder during a print, while the x,y,z axes run perfectly fine. I'm running pretty much the unchanged teacup firmware. But i've tried differby Ollie - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
