Well I finnally got some time to try to revive my Prusa. I had it sit quietlly for about 3, 4 years now. I didn't even reminded what was wrong with it, and why I've stopped using it. I have less and less time, and after 4 hours trying to get it to work, I just can't seam to get the Z axis to work properly. So.. I dont have time to work on the printer, and I need to buy a kit I can trust. I seeby macsoft - General
is 5:1 ratio enough? what is the normal gear ratio for a Wade's extruder for example? thanksby macsoft - General
How nice rig Dick! The idea on having RAMPS control the machine as a MILL too, is simplicity. You don't need no stand alone controllers. When I boot up the RAMPS I can choose if i'll control it as a Mill or as a Printer, and if uses settings set for each machine. I'm at ease with Arduino programming (i do prefer PICAXE) so the firmware part won't be much of a problem. On the software part, i thiby macsoft - General
Thanks. The idea is to build a easly removable an sturdy extruder, i can swap between my Prusa printer, and the hardware of my CNC Mill. I'm converting the Mill in 2 stages: - STAGE 1: First i want it to work both with the current electronics for Milling, and when I connect RAMPS to it and hook up the extruder: a 3d printer. My RAMPS project box as an 37 printer type pin connector where all thby macsoft - General
well that is another good discussion i'm interested too: are there big advatanges of 1.75mm fillament over 3mm?by macsoft - General
I found some sites with the geared NEMA 17 too. Now.. what ratio would work best for a reprap?by macsoft - General
I foud the version hidden in the PCB. v1.2. Now.. the problem is: I would like to try the Marlin firmware, but he only speaks on settings for the v1.3 and v1.4by macsoft - General
Thanks the idea was not to use printed parts. I would like more precise parts. Can you point me the the NEMA 17 geared stepper motors that work best for a printer?by macsoft - General
Hi, Me again. I was going to try a new firmware (Marlin) on my RAMPS...and reading i just found out there are several versions of RAMPs boards.. I dont touch my printer in a couple of years.. what RAMPs board do I have? How to spot the differences? THanksby macsoft - General
Hi, I'm looking for som aluminum, our other material . not printed and precise - gears for my Gregs Extruder this one: where can I found some? thanksby macsoft - General
Some more pictures of it without the motor now:by macsoft - General
Hi, I've build a Prusa some years ago, and It has been colecting dust. Now i want to put to work again, and remembered i have a broken motor on the extruder. This is my extruder (can someone identify the type of extruder? I've forgotten a lot of things in these years gone from the project, i have no recolation of what type is it) Disassembling it I found out the gear on the motor shaft is toby macsoft - General
Thanks Madmike, I've been away so long that feels crappy being newbie again.. Long time since I was pioniring reprap adding an LCD to a RAMPS and tweaking the firmware. well.. gotta get my reading ON! thanksby macsoft - General
Also.. about PLA filament. I still got a spool of 3mm, dont know if its still good. When searching for PLA spools for sale, I see a lot more 1.75mm filaments. Is this the norm now? Will this work with my extruder an nozzle, or do I have to change some things? thanks againby macsoft - General
I found Mattercontrol on Wiki..any good? I've installed the arduino controls.. and I can't connect to my printer I have a Prusa, so I've chose the Mendel90 printer.. no?by macsoft - General
Sorry to revive this. I will have some time to work on this now and I need a little more info. I work on files on a Mac, but my Prusa is connected to an old laptop with winXP. Witch software should I run on the Laptop with WinXP to send commands to the printer? Thanks.by macsoft - General
hum.. what about nozzles? I seem from 0.3 to 0.5 mm... what should i get?by macsoft - General

thank you guys, Its hard to relearn all of this. I loved to teak my firmware and machine, and I now must remember it all again. Will the J-Head hot-end fit my extruder head? please check movie to take a look at my old post to see my extruder head: also, in my time, we mostly used 3mm PLA. Is that still the best Diameter/Material ? If not, what diameter hotend and PLA/other material should I geby macsoft - General
Are these softwares Slic3r and kisslicer for mac also? I remember my hotend was acting up. i may need another. What should i get now that works with my prusa, but has some more quality? What about firrmware for RAMPS, any new thing I can try? thanksby macsoft - General
Hi guys! 2 years ago I built a prusa and loved it. I used a RAMPS for electronics bases, and hook it up to an LCD for feedback. I stopped having time for this project, and I would like to come back to it. But i've forgotten many things Waht is new in the REPRAP world (what id I miss?) And what new goodies (hardware, software or firmware) can I get to my prusa? Also, how do I connect, and builby macsoft - General
me likes big noisy tools! you can file it by hand... or you can grind it in 10 seconds with a power grinder then hammer it in on the coupling. thanksby macsoft - General
I had bad Z wobble. i changed all my bushings to linear bearings, and had to do something about the couplers. Wondering the hardware store, i found these ones! They are used for coupling rubber tubing to welding equipment. they are 8mm on one side and 6 mm on the other. some heatsheriking tube on the 5mm motor shaft worked like a charm. Had to shave the threads on the rod to fit the 8 mm bit. Myby macsoft - General
been there, done that. the values wore exactly the same, but i paste it anyway, and uploaded it . no changeby macsoft - General
True, the beta was commented different. but all the values on the table wore the sameby macsoft - General
hi brnrd, I've just checked. both tables have the same values. I tried it anyway, and temp reading was the same. Thanks anyway.by macsoft - General
RAMPS leaves arduino mega lots of free pins. if connected it to the pins: 43,41,39,37, 35, 33 so i used arduinos lcd library with thw tonokips firmware. Basicly you cant print whatever you want on screen. you just gotta pick what you want from the variables used by the firmware, or to create some more. when i finish my hack i'll post the firmware and instructions on how to connect the lcd.by macsoft - General
heyyy thanks nophead! that did it! i got a functional percentage indicator and progress bar on my LCDby macsoft - General
hum.. my firmware is a hacked tonokip, and i think the thermistor on the hotend is one from makerbot..by macsoft - General
