I suggested a mig or modified tig with mig feed system ages ago. The problem comes the resolution would be low and you need a constant feed of some specialised compressed gas to keep the air out. Unless you built a chamber and filled it with argon and did not open it till it was finished. Anyway my goal was to make a system that will do a large variety of matirials as possible with only one depoby Madkite - Developers
I suppose you could but personally I think it would just add unnecessary complexity over the ordinary layer system. A support material would be essential. What that would be I don't know yet and there is so much work to do before worrying about that. I do have to make it work first before getting too carried away.by Madkite - Developers
Of what I have read it is fine to build up multiple layers. The sucess or failure of adherence can be very material specific when joining dissimilar matirials but not when joining to the same material. It just welds on to the lower layer. It is being used in the aircraft industry for repair of parts where multiple layers have to be built up to replace lost material or create strong reinforcementsby Madkite - Developers
All you are doing is substituting heat energy for velocity. Quite a lot of material can be laid down as the particles are 1 to 50 micrometers in diameter for this technique. Research shows smaller is better but that does not mean the volume has to be less.by Madkite - Developers
Been working on a system to deposit metal and plastic for some time. It works by accelerating the dust particles of the desired material to hypersonic velocity (800 m/s+ target for my attempt.) causing them to bond on collision. Its normally used for coatings as it is a spray with commercial equipment but I am trying to build a system that creates a collimated beam of particles you could build aby Madkite - Developers
I cant personally see the benefit if cable. I did consider it when designing my mod with the idea of being able to get a smaller diameter drive off the motor. But I just didn't think it was worth it and would be hard to get good grip on a small pulley. The belt pulley is small as is. Don't know about something that common but small mechanical chain would work well. Especially for a big build. Any baring or belt supplier carries it and the sprockets normally.by Madkite - General
Very impressive. I can see the detail in the white mostly. I think the lines show up more clearly with FDM as the edges are not so square from layer to layer. The have a rounded profile and it makes each layer much more distinct for the same thickness. Also they are not so perfectly accurate and any that don't line up exactly contribute to the visual lower quality. A comparative material strenby Madkite - General

If the mentioned separate individuals or businesses do not come up to your standard of open source then that's one thing. But they are all separate entities not bound by each other or us. And so must be addressed separately in detail. And its only your opinion on what it means to be open source anyway and its obvious that people here disagree with your definition or requirements. My PLA wades warped too. Had to bodge it to make an ABS one. The biggest thing in making mine work well was the design of the toothed drive. I guess an ideal drive would turn the tensioner wheel as well and have them both grip and push the filament. The big gear does limit height on the Mendel quite a bit too. But it has been reliable. Not tried a direct drive one yet.by Madkite - General
That sounds horrible. You know its bureaucrat waffle when you have to decipher whole paragraphs and it still doesn't seem to mean anything. Were too much a heard of cat's for it to work anyway. And it kind of sounded like business attempting to control our individualistic open source development. For what ends and who's benefit? No thank you. Goodbye.by Madkite - General
I would suggest using a bigger belt if only so you get a better grip on the drive gear teeth as it will be under real load. In theory there is no reason why it cant be a triple pulley system if you want more torque and speed is not a concern. As long as the belt is tensioned properly there should be no backlash as all the slack is took up already. There should be virtually no spring too if a propby Madkite - Developers
Been meaning to do some accuracy test videos but I'm bogged down with work and life stuff right now. Also started work on my metal/plastic printing system. Not sure if it will work but when I have it completed and some results I will let you know. The belt is not quite twice as long but only carries half the torque as its effectively using two strands instead of one. I have not had to to adjusby Madkite - Developers
You mean the Dyson fan that uses the technology directly taken from patents of this guy. He wanted to make planes fly with is the only difference. The dust removal system he uses on his vacuum is also another technology that already exsisted long before Dyson put in on a vacuum. He was just the first to do so. Don't get me wrong I like Dyson but he did not invent the core technology of many oby Madkite - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Ok i hope this makes sense as I have had a drink or two. Well I have gen 6 and as I wanted to print in ABS I needed 110c. The first thing i have to say is that PLA parts are no good for this as they melt. Well become soft and distort so if your thinking of using ABS you need ABS parts. Second I couldn't get a laptop supple that could take the power so I got a variable bench power supply up tby Madkite - General

That's what I had been thinking might be the problem. It was overfilling slightly and I was setting it when it literally went bang. Going to be a little while before I can do any tests now though. Bought some higher power resistors which should take any accidental abuse and last a long time. will take some video of that too. Going to be a long video at this rate. Nothings ever simple.by Madkite - Developers
Just a quick update. One of my wire wound heater resistors has exploded so I am having to wait for a replacement but apart from that does anyone have any ideas as to why the size should be too large on smaller objects but correct for bigger objects. Is this a skeinforge settings problem or a steps per mm problem? I'm talking X Y here only. I'm not talking very large diferences. 0.2mm at the most.by Madkite - Developers
The plastics I got in the original Kit were less than precise. Far worse then the ones i have printed. The X axis has a carriage I printed myself and its perfect. But the Y has one of the originals and I don't need to measure it to know its at an angle. My plastics that I have in the sets I'm printing are probably ok but I'm just sick of the silly adjustment system that you cant get at. I willby Madkite - Developers
Been calibrating and taking video. Got in a little muddle as I got the X and Y muddled up (Don't do calibrating hung over!) but more shockingly. My Y axis is really worn. Got a nice flat on the rod so its not running quite straight anymore. So I'm going to finish my video and when I don't need to print any more I will design a linear baring mount to go on the Y axis and change the rods.by Madkite - Developers
It works well measuring a Kapton covered bed. I use one all the time but it doesn't measure aluminium properly unless you put tape or something else on the surface to measure. If your using a Kapton bed than its great to check the temp or see if its the same all over.by Madkite - General
I did that when I was a lad and I can tell you now that. No it can't. I am familiar with the kind of detail you are wanting and this printing technique is not the right kind at all. Its better at strong plastic parts for things rather than models of any detail. And before anyone gets too eager to say I'm being defeatist the models they are making now are so detailed that they can't me made byby Madkite - General
Should be able to make a video Sunday if evrything goes to plan. So can do my normal test 80mm by 80mm print and calibrate evrything as it need doing now. Any test object you want me to print pleas ask. Nothing ridiculously big though. And I'm not sure I have inside curves accurate yet so I'm only looking for circularity as that's a code setting to get the diameter right. Once I have it all doby Madkite - Developers
I know the errors in accuracy are repeatable. I simply wouldn't be able to correct them and see the correction I enter represented in the next test precisely in relation to the correction. I'm very familiar with how to measure. I make machine parts regularly so I'm sued to seeing if things are really parallel or flat. I get far more error from shrinking forces creating stress than anything else.by Madkite - Developers
I will make a video of a test part and how I configure this week if I can. I'm a bit busy at the moment. I have confirmed this accuracy with calipers and I'm used to working very accurately as I do machine work very often. It is also necessary to configure your machine to its actual output not a theoretical number of steps. One of my axis has 81.something instead of the theoretical 80. This cby Madkite - Developers
