Yeah, I used LM type regulator between laser and heatbed 12v connector.
Correct timing then needs that quite "pervert" G code sequences, because heating seems to be quite low timing priority in Marlin firmware.
Other approaches exists, but mine experiment was "quick'n dirty"

Some my old experiments on this thread:
I used heatbed connection, little bit modified Marlin for that and special G-code sequences.

Now I'm frustrated to that laser diode, it heats up quickly and power drops within half minute or so
Enough to cut paper, but not even 1.5 mm balsa after about 30 secs.
I tried peltier element but it's cooling had to be quite powerful to work I think.

Some small vases printed allready.
Nozzle 0.5mm, Cura "Joris:ed" perimeters, Layer height 0.2mm.

Actually intresting approach to retracrt, slow and little,
usually instructions are retract LOT if stringing

But anyway it works
1.75 mm balsa is cutted trough about 10 mm/s.
And the "stripe" is very small, but I know it still exists.
Is it better to be longer distance focus or shorter with that small lense?
I can tune it at some range shorter to eternity.

I use this lense for 445nm diode:
Beam is focused about 6.5cm distance, and when I cut paper, cutted line is about as thin as a paper or less (under 0.1mm) .
Mine mechanics vibrates and wobbles more than that
Focused beam shape is indeed a stripe.

Latest trial with M400 "wait for buffer to clear" which helps
and then test G-Code looks like this:

Hm, in Marlin fimware in configuration_adv.h
setting
#define BED_CHECK_INTERVAL 2000 //ms
causes some problems
now trying to find suitable value or solution to direct Pinout control with G-code (Fan etc)
New solution, because Bed check lags too much:
I changed in firmware in pins.h
#define HEATER_BED_PIN 4 // (bed) old 12
then pin 12 is now "free", actually bed mosfet
and I can use G-code

I just tried driving heatbed mosfet connection connected to LM338 based driver to laser diode and... it works nicely
Hand driving heatbed On/Off tests.

I have used LM317T or LM338T based constant current circuit
with about 0.8-1 ohm resistor.
I use that with M140 blue lased diode and it works well with12v input
If I put that driver with laserdiode to heatbed( or hotend) connection and
drive that with M140 S100 and M140 S0 G code commands. So the driver gets 12 or 0 volts.
Could this setup work?

Interesting idea, but quite problematic. Arrange competition for it
Free nozzle dropout not neccessarily go straight downwars, maybe put nozzle lower but then it sticks with great amount of plastic after "injection".
Difficult maybe to move away without dragging with nozzle.

Yeah true. Maybe I try once more, I''ll zoom test piece bigger (1.5x or even bigger), at some point it should work ><

No success
I tried also "grid" type printing, It's flexible, but it (PLA) breaks if bend too much. Maybe with nylon, hmm...

I had used temperatures 180-190 C with PLA and 205-215 with ABS, but it is filament specific

I tried 5x5 with Slic3r 0.9.3. one 2x2 chain corner was sliced differently ("double fibers"). It printed out with clear PLA (sorry no pics yet) partly well, but chains were melted with eachother (no fan) . Somewhat fexible output anyway.
Next I'm going to try make thin "fibery" grid using that melting as advantage: -)

Slic3r ainakin aiheuttaa ylläreitä, ite nykyään katon Repetier Hostilla, miltä lopputuloksen tulisi näyttää.
Jos on paljon perimetrejä / pieni kappale, niin sliceri voikin päättää (bugintapainen?), ettei tähän solideja kerroksia tarviikaan laittaa. Onpa joskus tullut ylimääräinen "kansikerros" kuppimaisen printtauksen päälle

Onnittelut
Tuosta se kalibrointi, virittely ja testailu vasta alkaa.
Paperi pohjana välttää, mutta joustaa/venyy vanuu liikaa, ohut pahvikin parempi, ja mieluiten se kaptaaniteippi.
Onko tuo matsku PLA:ta vai ABS:ia?
