can you get finely powdered wax? can you distribute it layer at a time into a build tank? both of these are theoretically possible... if you can manage that, odds are very good we can find a solution with heated air, focused light, or lasers!
extruding wax has the problem of making the input compatible (producing rods, or modifying the extrude head to suit something else), and fine tuning t

good to know,.. i'm game for cheap, easy and reliable, however that pans out. those i've discussed the idea with locally (so far...) would like to supply their own materials, either (A) wax, or ( recycled/homebrew plastic. i get the feeling we'll be spending some time tinkering with alternatives.

I understand every RepRap unit is unique, many use different materials, so operate at different speeds, flow rates, temperatures, and so on. conceivably each may have its firmware tuned differently, so a file that specifies 142mm may produce 140mm or 146mm, but all objects made on that unit would be to scale with each other. likewise, owing to the effects of gravity, XY measurements may differ

I'm taking this question to the "General" board, this is "For Sale"...

the second I saw this RepRap technology I've been wondering if it can run a wax print head. If you make an object out of plastic you get one plastic object. If you can make an object out of wax you are on the way to a couple dozen copies in bronze by lost-wax casting. I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking that.

Lasers! - 15 years ago
Everyone loves lasers it seems. How realistic is the idea of ripping a laser unit out of an old DVD-burner, and using it to heat, melt or etch? Is such a unit capable of enough power to melt the ABS/PE/PLA types of materials we're talking about here?
If it can melt, we might have the possibility of a variant RepRap with a build tank, acting on layers or powder, SLS style. That method has it

Wire Glue... isn't that solder?
has anyone fed solder through a RepRap to see what happens?
is there any viable potential for either PCBs, or metal fabricated objects?

Hi, I'm new,
Don't own a replicator at all, let alone a self-replicator.
I'm on the island, and I believe I saw a Victoria on the world map.
Any other Vancouver Island?
