The okanagan reprap is finally up and running.
Now all I have to do is all the tweeking required to get really good parts.
I'll post again once I can get a decent print.
Good luck to those brave or stubborn enough to build one.
It is not without problems but well worth the effort.
Cheers

Arduino version1.0 is still not working with the Arduino Mega 2560 board yet.
I tried it 2 days ago but had to go back to version 023 which works just fine with Sprinter.
I did upgrade to the new Pronterface (Jan 19 2012) which is a big improvement over the previous version.
Well done guys!
Thanks

PCB Heatbed problem solved.
Problem 1 - The thermistor from Avnet needed to be set to 1 in config.h.
It now reads correctly and is very reliable.
Problem 2 - The led was burned out, don't know how that happened but I soldered on a new one and it lights up just fine now.
Problem 3 - And this was the big one, Not enough power in the computer power supply I used.
A word to the wise, buy a new 5

Ok, so I tested the PCB Heatbed on another power supply and it heats up right away but the led lights do not come on.
This is weird because I have one mounted each way like the wiring diagram says here;
I guess they might be cooked so I will have to unsolder one and test it.
The important thing is that the bed heats up just fine.
So now that leads me to believe it is either my thermistor or t

OK, I measured the board and I get 1.2 at the leads where I would connect it to the Ramps board.
Tried connecting it to a different 12v supply and it doesn't short out but the leds on the Heatbed don't light up either.
Any ideas why?

Thanks for the responses,
No, I have not measured the beds resistance but its a factory built board so I didn't think to try that. (I will now though)
Shouldn't the circuit turn off and on with any load attached?
As for the Thermistor, I got mine from Avnet and special ordered the Epcos 100k one and set my thermistor type to 6 in the config.h file.

I had the same problem.
You have to make sure that your pins.h file looks as below. (Don't uncomment anything)
// uncomment one of the following lines for RAMPS v1.3 or v1.0, comment both for v1.2 or 1.1
// #define RAMPS_V_1_3
// #define RAMPS_V_1_0
I read somewhere that I had to set things here to make it work but that is not true.
Leave the pins.h alone and just make sure that your motherboa

Has anyone wired in the Prusa MK2 Heatbed yet?
I bought mine brand new and I can't get it to turn on at all.
I am running Ramps v1.4 board (factory built), Sprinter and Pronterface.
When I try to set the heat it tells me the Bed temp is at 295.
I tried putting my fans as a load on the D8 connections to see if I could turn them on and off but the light does not come on for the heat bed and the

Hi ZG Bot,
I had a similar problem first time out and it turned out that I had my Z end stop plugged into the wrong set of pins.
I had only 3 end stops and I had the Z min plugged into the z max.
Hope it's that simple for you.

Wow,
I finally reached reached my wits end.
I removed all of the Max endstops and changed my config.h file in Sprinter so it would work without them enabled to eliminate the problem with the faulty one. (I will order another later)
.
It turns out that the only way I can make my machine work is to double the 6720 that works fine for everyone else in the world except me.
My machine finally works

Hi Guys,
So after some troubleshooting I found that the upper opto endstop v2.1 on the Z axis is not working. (See attached photo)
I plugged the endstop in place of one that is working and it doesn't light up.
I thought I may have made a mistake and soldered the light in backwards or it may be a bad led so I pulled the old one off and soldered on a new light with the long leg closest to the swi

Hi Ataraxia00,
It sounds to me like your Z endstop connection may be the problem.
I don't know what kind you have but they may need to be checked at the point where they plug into the Ramps board.
You may have one of the wires in the the3 pin connector reversed.
Green where brown should be for example.
Just a thought.

Hi Guys,
I've done everything I can as far as trying the formulas that you suggest.
As most others do not seem to have this weird Z axis problem I think I need to look elswhere.
I noticed that the top Z end stop does not light up and I think this may be causing my problem somehow.
When I unplug the Z top endstop the Z will only move one direction.
I also noticed that my extruder heats up as so

Hi Nophead,
The machine type is Mendal.
The pully on the z motor is 8 tooth and the one on the belt is 21 tooth.
My belt is 5mm and I am using the standard 8mm rod with 1.25 pitch.
I checked to make sure that all three jumpers were on the Ramps 1.4 board and they are.
I purchaced the board fully populated from Mixshop so I don't think it is a cold solder issue either.
I will try that later tod

Hi, I've got all my axes working except for the z axis. After finding that using 3200/1.25 in my config H did not cause the z-axis to move the required amount, I plugged my numbers into a calculator (http://calculator.josefprusa.cz/), and got 6720.
When I tried to move the z-axis down 10mm again, I measured that it only moved 6.78mm, so I tried multiplying the previous amount by 10/6.78, mak

Hi Ijmok,
I'd start by checking your end stops for a short.
Mine did the same thing and it turned out to be a pin that worked it's way to the mounting plate and shut down the whole machine.
I couldn't even get it to recognize the com port.
I removed all the stops and it worked so I plugged them back in 1 by 1 and found the problem.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Grog,
Do you happen to know anything about feed rates?
I tried printing with PLA last night but my extruder just plugged right up.
I am using Wades geared extruder and the hobbed bolt from Eckertech.
Using pronterface and Sprinter but I am not sure wher to set my nozzel size and feed rate.
Any good tutorials you could point me to?

Solved,
Turns out it was the OptoEndstop itself.
There was a pin poking through to the cork mount and it was grounding to the machine.
Still not sure about the lights though.
Mine it still red even though everything works.

Hi Guys,
I am having trouble getting my reprap fully constrained.
I am using Ramps V1.4 board with Arduino Mega 2560, Version 2.1 opto endstop kits from Makerbot and and running Sprinter.
I am using an ASUS power supply and it only gives me the option of 18 amps at 12 volts.
I have 2 positive wires going from the power supply to the Ramps board. 1 to the 5A section and 1 to the 11A section

You got it again brnrd.
My optos were plugged into the max pins.
They have to be plugged into the min pins which are located directly below the letters X,Y and Z on the ramps board.
Now I have all 3 motors going both ways and stopping.
Thanks again for the help.

Great news!
I got all of my opto end stops working.
I set the "const bool X_ENDSTOP_INVERT = true;"
for all three axis in the configuration file and tried it again.
It didn't work at first but after swapping the brown and brown/white and green wires at the connector end it does.
Blue & blue/white = 5v ( My newly soldered in pins )
Brown & brown/white = ground
Green = Signal

Hello brnrd
Thanks for pointing me to the right section.
I am going to try that right now.
To answer you other question though, I edited the pins.h file because it said to in the section under if motherboard 33.

Hi Brupji,
I was fortunate to get some excellent help from the fellow at Mixshop.
They are very helpful and I would reccomend them to others.
Like you, he said I could just solder a row of pins onto the board below the 2 rows that are already there.
I tested the holes to ground looking for 5 volts and found it on all pin holes.
So yes, you can do exactly that and it was also very easy to do.

Thanks Viktor.
I will try that and let everyone know if it works.
If anyone else has a ramps 1.4 board and can tell me what their setup is that would help me as well.
A picture is worth a thousand words.

Hi Guys,
I bit the bullit and bought a ramps 1.4 pre-populated board from Mixshop.
This was done because I was having trouble getting working firmware for the "Adrian's Pololu Electronics" boards I originally built.
I thought I would be up and printing by now but I hit another snag when I noticed that my new board ony has 2 pins for each end stop.
I guess I should have specified what kind of

It looks like I will have to bite the bullit and buy a ramps 1.4 board that is premanufactured.
The machine is done except for the board and if these boards are no longer supported I will strike it down as a learning experience.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks for getting back to me Traumflug.
Since I posted last I have downloaded Sprinter and its related python prerequisits.
I modified the area labeled fix me in the pins.h file to look like this. (see attached word doc)
Please have a look and let me know if I did anything wrong. If I didn't, it may help some other Adrian's Pololu Electronics fans.
I think this is a great design because if you

Thanks Sublime,
I'll try changing the Pins.h file and see if it will verify/compile.
And maybe Marlin as well.
I'll let you know if I get it working.
Failing this I found a Ramps 1.4 Arduino Mega Sheild fully populated that I might try.
Maybe I'll have better luck with a manufactured board.

Hello All,
I'm a RepRap builder in the Okanagan and I've just built my first RepRap using Adrian's Alternative Mendel electronics based on the Arduino Mega and the Pololu A4983 stepper controllers. I also went with Wade's geared extruder as It seemed to be the favorite when I started this project.
The mechanical parts are all done but I'm having trouble getting the software to work.
