Great.
Thank you for the advice.
The wire running from the PSU to the RAMPS board will be 14AWG silicone wire.

Seeing as I am intending to run 2 mosfets, and a PSU only has 3 connections for outputs, could I run the outputs as follows.
1 output to mosfet for heated bed
1 output to mosfet for hot ehnd
1 output to the 11A input on RAMPS and then jumper this to the 5A input. So basically the output of the PS

Thank you for the reply.
The Meanwell type PSU that I am using is rated at 30A.
The heat bed is 220mmX220mm.
It will be a standard hot end, an E3D bowden clone to be exact.
Not sure of the wattage of the heater cartirdge.
Just to be clear, I will be powering the heat bed and hot end off 2 separate mosfets (each connected directly to the PSU by 14AWG silicone wire).
My question is about the pow

Hi All,
I am planning on switching to a RAMPS board in the next week or so.
I have a question regarding powering the board when using 2 external mosfets (one for the heat bed and one for the extruder).
If using 2 mosfets how do I power the board? Do I need to connect power to both input blocks (5A and 11A), or just one? If just one, then the 5A or the 11A?

Thanks for the replies.
The reason I ask is that in the wiki build manual is says "2x 400mm M10 threaded rod", but in the build thread at http://78.47.92.212/i3_documentation_pics/04-yaxis.md.html it shows using M8 washers and nuts on these long threaded rods.
So I am not sure which rods to use.

I forgot to mention that I am looking at the boxed frame version, if that makes any difference.

Hi All.
Can someone please tell me if the long threaded 400mm rods for the Y-axis on the I3 are M8 or M10?
I am putting together a BOM and am confused as to which rods these should be.
TIA

Hi all.
I am new to 3D printing and need some advice on a first printer.
I have been looking at the Prusa I2 and I3, but don't know if there is anything else that I should be looking at.
My main problem in the build will be sourcing the printed parts, as I don't have access to be able to print a set of my own.
Any advice would be appreciated.
TIA

Hi.
My name is Darryn and I am from Cape Town, South Africa.
I want to build my first 3D printer.
I am looking to build one from scratch, so that I can learn as much as possible.
For a beginner, what would be the best printer to start with?
I know there is a lot of support for the Prusa I2, but now that the I3 is 'available', would that not be a better option. Or maybe another model?

Hi All.
Thank you for the replies.
I have not actually purchased the kit yet.
I was just checkling to see if this would be okay to buy.
So do you guys think that this a good kit to start with?
So, from what you can see, there are just the two RP pulleys missing to complete the printed parts of the kit?
I don't have any build instructions for this specific variation of the kit, but I am sure I s

Hi all.
I am busy planning the build of my first 3D printer.
A seller has offered me the attached set of printed parts for a Prusa.
I see that some of the parts look a lot different to the other kits I have seen.
Would this kit be okay to start off with, or should I look at something else?
TIA

Hi all.
I am busy getting together my list of supplies to build a Prusa I2 printer.
I have decided to source the parts myself and I have a few questions:
M8 Threaded Rod: Is there a particular pitch that it needs to be? Is there any specific materical it should be made from? I have been given the option of galvinised ready bar from a supplier. Would this be the correct threaded rod?

Hi All.
My name is Darryn and I am from Cape Town, South Africa.
After reading a lot of information about 3D printing, I have decided to take the plunge and build a machine.
There does not seem to be a big RepRap community in South Africa, so I am hoping that all you knowledgeable folks will be able to help me on my way.
Just to make it clear, I am a complete nood with 3D printing, hence all the

Hi all.
I am brand new to 3D printing.
I am very keen in starting out and am thinking of building a Prusa Mendel Iteration 2.
Is there someone that can printer me a good set of parts?
I am willing you pay for them.
Thank you.
