For your area and price range, the reprap pro mendel is a good choice.

I'm about to kick off a contest on Youtube to give away a Reprap Pro Mendel.
Weekly, through the time it takes me to build the mendel, I will challenge entrants to complete a task. Those tasks will be judged by current Reprap owner operators.
Right now I am looking for any good challenges that I may not have thought of yet.
So far I have-

I've been keeping my eye on this new printrbot...printrbotGO.
It was made in collaboration with Ben Heck of the "Ben Heck Show"
Is anyone considering buying this?

I just came from Guam for a small exercise...You might be the only RepRapper there! I didn't see any big hardware or electronics stores there so you may have to pay extra shipping for everything. I'm going back next month, look me up. I'd like to see how others build their nest.
BTW the humidity there is off the charts, protect your filament!

Billy, He built it himself. A few parts were printed on a Makerbot but he self sourced it, just like Bre brags anyone can do.
Terence, is that company open source? Do you think he was the one making the calls to sue people from the R&D department?

Yes, I've built a Mendel, Prusa Mendel, Makergear Prusa Mendel, Makergear Mosaic, Wallace.
I have taught a 3D printer workshop to 6 students that built their own Mosaic over the course of 2 days. (http://makerplace.com/Default.aspx?pageId=1296194&eventId=487246&EventViewMode=EventDetails)
I was first person to have a successful Kickstarter Campaign last year. (http://www.kickstarter.co

I designed the "nickel test" and the "better nickel test" as a real way to test my prints. If I have an stl with 21.21 mm internal diameter and it print it a nickel should fit inside. That is the only point of the test. To make sure the parts you print are accurate to what you want to make. Plus you get to see which axis is making the circles, oval as well.

Brother! Why didn't you research them before you purchased? I have a long and well documented bad experience with them. They would only respond to social media bully tactics... stay away from botmill!

Yea he mentions reprap... Like his machine is the only one that can make other printers, which is false.
I think he's just used to people getting into his energy and just going with it. This time he was dealing with a true professional spin doctor that wasn't buying into his talk louder and faster gimmick.

I'll name, names.
I've never had any problems with Makergear.com or Ultimachine.com
And I've spent ALOT of money with both sites.

I don't understand how hard they can screw this up. I have personally packaged kits, sold them and sent them locally and internationally without one person asking for anything to be replaced. I even offer a lifetime replacement policy on every part.
Get your act together Botmill you are a disgrace.

It is seriously backward that we aren't on the metric system. I'd vote for any president that vows to make that happen...

I've seen the press on this machine. I've seen the Makerbot vs. Cube interview at CES. Both are laughable... it was nice seeing Bre on the ropes though.
After seeing the most recent blog post on the reprap.org blog ( )
I just wanted to address some of the items on the specs page of the Cube. ( ) Maybe this falls under the RANT category... here goes.

I have an old HP ipaq PDA that is maybe 2 years old. Is there a way to install some host software on it so that I can run the Reprap straight from that? It has an SD card reader and a mini usb connection.
I was thinking that I could install a small linux distro on it and run pronterface from it. From my understanding, the host software just sends the gcode to the board so it doesn't have to be t

I've been experimenting a lot with SF41 recently and today I noticed that when the print is over instead of x and y going home the nozzle creeps away in a very slow shuddering motion. It must be the gcode, I've removed it from SF41's preface and it just stops (like you would expect.) But it seems any gcode I use causes the creep.
Here is the current end.gcode.

With few options and low in-stock items, I'm wondering if Makerbot electronics would work with a Prusa Mendel. What say you?
