I bought my kit while I was at MakerFaire (post-processed). As soon as I got back from the fair and got to my room, I jumped online and ordered a set. The parts are very high-quality (obviously; they're lasercut), but did require a little sanding/reaming to get everything in working order. I was missing a few pieces from my kit (one frame bracket was fubar, and the y-axis was nowhere to be found)

Parts arrived today! I managed to get the extruder mount/chassis thing and X-axis endplate (not the motor plate) together in about three hours. I pretty much winged it, just by looking at the photos. I wound up using a bunch of M4x40's on the endplate, and as such I used A LOT of regular screws. Getting nylocks on those things is too damn hard! I'll probably wind up need to get some screws/bolts

Sebastien, thanks for the plug!
A note to anyone trying to get tickets: The hotel that Make had arranged with (the Crowne Plaza) has run out of rooms at the special rate.
However, the Hilton Garden Inn (IIRC) is still open for booking. If you haven't booked travel/hotel yet, it might be wise to jump on it, as tickets prices for airfare have gone up, and the special rate expires soon.

Email address is sanctitiesrares@gmail.com. Already have room/board, and I won't be bringing a machine (urg! Still need Mendel's printed parts!)

Does it use the same length of rod as regular Mendel?
Also, does it use the same or similar amounts of screws/bolts/washers?

No offense, but I think $350 is sort of ridiculous.
The plastic itself costs ~$20 for a whole machine, and time spent printing (By that I mean time spent actually fabbing parts) is no more than ~72 hours at the max. I understand that machines jam, and that life and proverbial s**t happens, but why does it take so much money and so much darn time to make a set of parts?
Sorry if I angered anyone

Thanks for the tip! I'll go edit the files as soon as I finish breakfast.
Sorry I didn't reply earlier, it was Thanksgiving, and I had a very busy day (busy with food!)

I tried, but Ponoko requires that all lines for cutting be colored blue; I don't know how to change line colors in Inkscape.

I'm very interested in Mendel parts.
Can you also provide the lasercut thick sheet?
Also, how much would the full mech kit (without the extruder bits, motors, and electronics) cost?

Does anyone know where I can get a Ponoko-ready SVG of the laser cut thick sheet for Mendel? They don't accept DXF files unless you have a pro account, which costs ~$40.

I'm looking for a PTFE/PEEK barrel for my extruder (already have a nozzle/barrel). Are you willing to sell an individual PTFE/PEEK barrel, without the kit? And, if it matters, I would prefer PTFE (PEEK is ok, but PTFE is much more slippery!)

Hey
I'm also looking for Mendel parts. I'm willing to pay material cost, labor, and shipping. I live in Arkansas. Email me at sanctitiesrares@gmail.com if you're interested.

I noticed that, too. The site/forums/blogs were down intermittently between late Thursday all the way to yesterday afternoon.
Server maintenance? DOS/DDOS? Bad luck?

For some resources on the arduino, check out Ladyada's sweet tutorials. Also, the Arduino forum is super helpful.
Another way to look for clubs is to goto hackerspaces.org and click "find a hackerspace". Hackerspaces are a great way to meet people with similar electronic/hobbyist interests as you.
I believe that the parts for Mendel cost ~$20 worth a plastic.
If you factor in labor, it'll cost

I am also interested in getting Mendel parts. I live in the U.S. (Arkansas), and likewise, a little bit of a lead time would be o.k.

Wanted
Troy, will you be selling printed parts for Mendel?
I've been looking around for them, and no-one has replied to my request in the wanted section. I'm willing to cover material cost and a little extra .

I was looking for the same thing. It seems that no one supplies PLA in the US. Hopefully this is untrue!

Plastic Extruder Working Group
It seems that PLA is the ideal material to use when printing (Nophead's posts seem to lend truth to that, and IIRC it's the official RepRap plastic).
Where can you buy it?
PLA doesn't seem to available anywhere. Makerbot doesn't have it, and BitsFromBytes doesn't either. Where can you get PLA???

To build an extruder for a Reprap, you have to use a piece of copper pipe and fire cement to keep the heating element and temp sensor on. On the Cupcake CNC, Kapton tape replaces those two parts.
Why isn't it standard procedure to use Kapton to hold an extruder together? Kapton works just as well (if not better) than fire cement, and is easier to use. Also, if you need to take the heating elemen

On this page in the wiki: it describes how to make a power connector for Mendel, but it doesn't tell how to connect it so that it provides power. For instance, how would you hook it up to the stepper motor drivers? Or the motherboard? Seems like a few important things have been left out.

Is it possible to use a ball chain to drive Mendel's axes, instead of a belt?
Just wondering.

Thanks to MotorAssist for the tip about the plural form of axis!

I'm also in need of Mendel parts. I'll be needing them shortly after Christmas (I.E, middle of January). I'm willing to pay a fair amount for your time and effort. Shoot me an email at sanctitiesrares@gmail.com

I would be very interested in this, I'm going to be needing the printed parts and the lasercut parts for Mendel soon, and I can barely find a place to get some wood laser cut. This is an amazing idea!

Reprappers
Thanks! I'll be making rounds to HomeDepot and Lowes next weekend.
It also appears that Makerbot DOES have the cheapest steppers online. Awesome!
Oh, and one more question:
Is the Extruder Kit on the Makerbot store compatible with Mendel? (I.E, can I use those parts, plus a few printed ones, to build an extruder for Mendel)

I have a few questions about Mendel:
* Is there a better supplier than McMaster Carr? * Can you use the extruder/skate bearings from the Makerbot website in Mendel? * Can you use a ballchain belt in Mendel? * Where's a good place to find 624 bearings? McMaster Carr charges SO MUCH for them! * Where can you find M5x20 or M4x20 Fender (Mudguard) washers? McMaster Carr only carries M10x20. * What's

Hey all,
I live in Rogers, AR (~2 hrs from Tulsa). I've been wanting to get started with the RepRap for the past few months, but the cost (on the order of $1000 for Darwin) and a few constraints (where to get lasercut build platforms, where to get the printed parts, etc...). Now that Mendel is out (costs ~$600), and I discovered the forums (yay!) I went looking for people who have 3D printers in
