I am willing to join a hackerspace.I also have a lot of resources that I am willing to share. I am ready to get something going, most of the time I feel like I am the only person doing stuff.

The beauty of a USB install is that you can run it all from the USB drive without installing to the hard drive. apparently there is already a reprap ubuntu distro out, I am downloading it. I think it would be cool to have a linux distro with all the CAD, RepRap software and settings preloaded and maybe even some 3D scanning stuff. Whats Needed? Parts are looking pretty good, but there is some warping. I ordered some PLA tonight and will resume printing in a couple of days. almost have my sons new repstrap built. getting ready to mount motors and wire it up. should be up by this weekend sometime. I think I have the print process tuned up and I am going to try tp print some Mendel parts today. Everyone cross you fingers, hopefully parts will be coming soon.

It lives. Made my first print tonight. I have a little Fine tuning and screw tightening to do tommorow and then I will start turning out parts for repraps. Woot

Cupcake CNC is built, the extruder is built, the firmware is finally loaded and....and.....nothing.....the machine jogs fine but the extruder does not respond. Arrrrrrg.......... taking a break for a day or two while we go back to school and then I will retackle the problem.

Today is the last day of students and the Cupcake cnc is finished. I hope to calibrate and test this week. I want to make some room in the shop so I have decided to sell my CNC router (cutting area 25x36x5 ish) so if anyone is interested you can PM me. I am planning a smaller router build. No worries about the parts. I am going to work on some as soon as I can. you may want to check out my Cupcake CNC before you buy one. I have been thinking that many of the parts for a Mendel can be made in wood on my CNC mill. If you are interested in a HYBRID Mendel I think we can get it done faster. It is very good to know which parts are most difficult to produce, I may use this survive for those parts. I have been kicking around the idea of using my cnc mill to make some of the parts and using the cupcake cnc at work for some parts. Maybe I can cut the buildtime for my sons Mendel. Cheers TroyGeek

Our Robotics Club Cupcake CNC is due to arrive on Thursday. We hope to have it up and running by next week and we will start building a Mendel Reprap before we leave for Christmas break. I may run it quite a bit over the break. My son who is in the Club is chomping at the bit to build a Mendel. Our club will start making parts for others as soon as feasible. Troy

Thinking about making an order for some nema 17 stepper motors from alltronics if anyone wants to share shipping. Lin Engineering 4218L-01-10 bipolar stepper motor they appear to be 75 oz/in or .53 N/M so I think they will perform very well. They are 2 amp and I am not sure about voltage. take a look at them they are 7.95 each and if they are not suitable I will bet we can find one on alltronics

I plan on buying mine from make magazine or makerot or ladyada. I may one day build some of my own but it is faster to just buy from one of these guys. I can mill some on my CNC but taces really need to be at least 1mm apart for best results. I have never looked at the pcb files so I don't know if this will be limiting. Soldering them up is a non event as long as you have all the parts.

One of the very first things I am going to do is make a Reprap Mendel. I will be making parts for other people too. Other than 2 new Lego battery boxes for my RCX's and a new plastic handle for the clothes dryer, it will be all Mendel parts all the time. I just finished robotics competition with my students at the school so now all of our focus will be on building a 3D printer. Think we will start with a Makerbot but I do like the looks of the new Mendel. We will be taking stock of what we have and what we need over the next week or so.
