A really decent implementation for sqrt is in the wikipedia @ Under the binary implementation, it's an implementation I've used on small micros for nearly 20 years so I know it's good.by skirmish - RepRap Host
Hmm, mag tape, that's a blast from the past. I have an uncanny feeling it'd work really well, unfortunately I can't experiment with that yet as all my old junk is in another country. Just for kicks, a stereo double sided cassette tape head will have 4 pickups on it and the old cassettes ran at under 2 inches a second, some even approached 20khz at the top end of the dynamic range. Hehe, I'm still working on using the mouse camera as a positional feedback element, just very slowly as I just finished working on one axis for my repstrap. Once I have something positive and tested I'll make a new post in the mechanics forum. I have been getting images back from the sensor and trying to work out issues with optics and the best material to be used for a readable strip. It is lookby skirmish - Mechanics
I've started doing a little clunking around with mouse navigation sensors and just wanted to drop in my tuppence worth. I took a look at the Cypress Ovation Laser Navigation Sensor datasheet and while it's looks great on the resolution I have noticed that these things lose/miss pulses. The problem I can see with the Cypress setup is that there's no way to read the image data from the optical sensby skirmish - Mechanics
Either way, moving the working dir (which I think isn't a solution), setting up email registration confirmation both would require access to the server. Banning the existing accounts would only require Sysop access, but where's a sysop? Having somebody else able to perform at least the act of banning spammers gives me a better feeling about not having to worry too much about reliance on one persoby skirmish - General
Wouldn't one solution to stop the spambots be to enable email registration in the wiki? That way to be able to edit a wiki page the user has to receive a validation email when their account is created. I believe that is standard mediawiki functionality.by skirmish - General
Yeah, it's totally possible, it's kind of what 3d laser scanners do, except they use lines. Just doing some quick math, if you have a totally unobstructed view from above of a work area 30cmx30cm, you could use a 300x300 pixel camera to get approx 1mm precision (maybe) and 600x600 pixel to approach 0.1mm. Although in the real world, we'd have to place the camera off to one corner so close up ourby skirmish - 3D Scanners, Book Scanners, and Optics
If I am remembering the Wii-mote specs correctly, the resolution is 640x480 for the camera on the front and it needs more than one pixel of IR source to be identified as a tracking point, seriously cutting down the available resolution. Which I wouldn't have thought it would give any kind of real accuracy for positioning, although I'd expect it'd be good enough to get a rough position for somethiby skirmish - 3D Scanners, Book Scanners, and Optics
