Hi Be careful with G92 X0 ;set x 0 G92 Y0 ;set y 0 This shifts the G code coordinate zero. It will be the current position in the axample as it is followed by X0 & Y0 I believe the lines before this probably sends the the head to the home position limit switches and the G92 commands just resets the coordinates. If you add the home command to cool could it call a file say "Homing.txt".by emt - Skeinforge
Hi Enrique Will do later. I tried all files in directory and got:- "C:\PyTools>python skeinforge.py cannot import name material That error means; could not import a module with the fileName export folder name skeinforge_tools and module fileName skeinforge.py giving an absolute directory name of C:\PyTools\skeinforge_tools The plugin could not be imported. Hi Bitsfrombytes are fine to deal with. They are a small company and are very, very busy. You should get your kit OK but it may take a while. I have no connection with them other than as a satisfied customer. You just need to be patient, they are not geared up yet for instant turn round of orders.by emt - General
Hi Enrique Skeinforge now starts OK. It will not run completely from the skeinforge command so I started individual parts of the tool chain. This is typical of the result:- The file C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\.skeinforge\profiles\test\analyze.csv doe s not exist. The default preferences for analyze.csv will be written in the .skeinforge folde r in the home directory. The file C:\PyTools\skeby emt - Skeinforge
Hi Enrique. This be the case but the strange thing is I can save a text file in the same directory using an editor. I will try a fresh install on a completely different PC. If I install on my Reprap PC and I have trouble can I easily roll back to the version I am currently using?by emt - Skeinforge
Hi Enrique. The latest version still had trouble with the .skeinforge directory. I guessed it was not being created so I created it from the command line. The result of that was a perpetual loop trying to write the default csv files(as far as I could see, it was scrolling pretty fast) finally bombed out with a stack overflow. Tail end of screen below. Is there anything I can do to help? I amby emt - Skeinforge

Hi Dave I thought I would try your slicer as I use Inventor which also seems to create some odd stl files. I usually import them into Rhino and then create STL from Rhino. Hi You are probably melting the plastic. You must take a cut and not rub. This usually means a higher feed than you think. Your machine may not be rigid enough for a high feed so in that case you must lower the dremel speed. To give you an idea at 5000rpm to advance a single flute cutter .001" per turn you need to feed 5" a minute. A 2 flute cutter feed would be 2.5" a minute. Hi I suggest you look up info on basic G code and write your own file so you KNOW what is happening. Simple file. G90 G21 G01 Z-10.00 F100 G01 X10.00 G01 Y10.00 G01 X0 G01 Y0 G01 Z0 The G90 sets you in absolute mode. The G21 sets you in metric mode. G01 moves axes at the speed set by F100 (100mm per minute). This programme should move Z down 10mm and then move X & Y in a 10mm square bby emt - RepRap Host
Hi Which electronics are you using? Which operating system, Windows, Linux...? The best bet for cutting is probably G code. This means using the G code firmware. G code are listed here:- along with links to how to send G codes You can ctually use a terminal programme to run single moves at a time to test every thing out. G1 X1. F100 moves X axis 1mm or 1 inch depending on your set up. Tby emt - RepRap Host
Mike I have just had it confirmed that the M11 & M10 only work on the parallel port version of Mach.by emt - EMC2
Hi Mike I use Smoothstepper. When I tried to test the M11 I came across a buffering problem in the Smoothstepper plugin. I have not yet established if it is anything to do with the M11, it may be general. There is a debug window popping up so Greg (Smoothstepper designer) is aware of potential problems. Family have arrived for Easter and the Harbour beckons so my testing is on hold for a while.by emt - EMC2
Hi Are you running as G code or trying to use the Host? I think the firmware may have only been altered to stepper extruder drive for the G code Interpretor.by emt - RepRap Host
Hi Andy Are you using a stepper driven extruder or DC? Are you willing to share your Arduino code? I am slowly beginning to understand how the Arduino firmware works but I am not sure where to add the the code for the input pin. I may well be using a version of Mach CNC software that does not allow the operation of signals without a delay. I can't be sure because when testing I tripped over aby emt - EMC2
Mike, What electronics are you using to control the heater & extruder? Is your extruder DC motor or stepper motor?by emt - EMC2
Hi Mike No I haven't tried that because I was running the commands out of the serial port. That way I can use the standard Arduino/Sanguino electronics to control the heater and extruder. I could always move the extruder on/off to an output so I will try your solution. How do you map M11/M10 to an output? Are you using parallel port or Smoothstepper? I am using Smoothstepper which may be introdby emt - EMC2
Mach3 is what I have used. The code generated by Skeinforge is suitable for Mach3. I believe the Host generated G code should be OK as well but I have not yet tried it. Unfortunately Mach runs M codes as macros that are files it reads to execute and they take a long time to process on my PC. It may be quicker on a faster PC. For me it means the extruder turns on and starts extruding some time befby emt - EMC2
You can use an existing CNC machine with the addition of an extruder. That is what I do. However you have to control the extruder from the control software. I tried to to do that with M functions for extruder on and off but it causes such a delay between moves I get poor results where the plastic oozes causing big blobs. The alternative is to use Reprap electronics & software to control yourby emt - EMC2
