I think that motors are more difficult than generators because they require a degree of precision. Technically, a bicycle computer is a generator. It has a single magnet passing by a tiny coil developing a charge. But if one were to charge the coil instead, they would find that this 'generator' of sorts would not work as a motor. Now this is an extremely warped example, and I am with you Erik, ifby redskinsjbs - General
Very good to point out Erik. I think that any way to implement it will work. What I do like about being able to remove the USB device is that if one does not have the storage space in their computer or they may not have rights to the storage space on the computer or what have you, they could have a set of different USB sticks with different printing queues on them. I guess that I am just fond ofby redskinsjbs - Controllers
Sod I had an idea a few months ago, and Forrest with his T2 has brought the concept back into focus. The idea is to equip some sort of larger memory capcity to the printer to create a type of cache, where print instructions can be stored until they are ready to be processed by the electronics. Forrest suggested using EEPROM because it is the easiest to implement, and for him, hes says it will allby redskinsjbs - Controllers
That is great! And it is here where one can begin to make back some of the money that they have sunk into their Baby RepRap! HAHAby redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Last year I built a parabolic solar oven for school. I created it by making 'leafs' of cardboard covered in aluminum foil which I then duct-taped together. Since I needed leeway to correct for my inaccuracies, I made it very bell shaped. It was about 3ft high and 3ft wide at the top, with a focal point 10 cm or so from the base. The goal was to cook one of those tiny bite-size pizzas or a hot-dogby redskinsjbs - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
What about printing with a higher-temp plastic like HDPE? You could definately pour molten chocolate into a mould made out of that.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Righto Forrest. I guess that all i meant was that I still feel like I should be a worker ant and nothing more. I guess that is just the high school mentality.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
I second Demented's point. I may be on the forums a lot and have read everything, but how can a high schooler be a Guru amongst PhDs? I'd like the title of 'Honorary Guru" or maybe 'Semi-Guru', but not just Guru. That should be left to Adrian, Vik, Noph, Ian...by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
Haha, Well it is surprisingly laid back. NOw don't get me wrong, you are speaking to a bunch of computer and electronics geeks, so it is a very tough crowd, but the atmosphere was pretty good. I think that everyone was excited and wanted to see the printer and they weren't trying to trip me up.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
That is again some great work. I think that if you added an axis which allowed for the whole tilt head to swivel you would have a robust design that could essentially place objects anywhere. Great work, and could you post that arduino interface code for the Wii nunchuck? I am thinking of getting one and playing around with it.by redskinsjbs - Mechanics
Insert Hydrogen. Thats easy enough and it can float away when done. (IDK if thats actually true, but what I mean by it is just place a repelling force) Also, I figure that the intermolecular forces strengths are stronger than gravity, because that is what physics says and I agree with physics.by redskinsjbs - General
Many of these single atom printers of the future would have millions of 'print heads' just for that reason, so I think that print time will be about the same.by redskinsjbs - General
Looks good. I don't know if you want to mention this, but I did at the presentation I gave last week. I mentioned how the printer not only can print itself, but it can print anything, and anyone can design anything/everything because the project and all of the software is open source. Any part that needs fixing or that just doesn't exist can be made right out of the printer.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
Someone recently mentioned (Sorry if I don't remember who you are, just mention below if it was you) that they reached 'Guru' status as a member in the community. I now noticed that I as well am a 'Guru'. My question is how are these titles coined to specific people? Is it the number of posts? how active they are? left up to a developer's judgement? There is no real reason to my asking, just sorby redskinsjbs - Reprappers
Pictures from Dorkbot! Sorry about the quality. They were taken with an Iphone.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
What about the software the Chris (nophead), Enrique, and Chris Meagan have been working on? That might be good to include.by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
That would be great! Do you know how to get the software to install on the Asus EEE? I am having problems with the fact that the Processor doesn't seem to have i386 libraries contained on it.by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Forrest, you really like those linear steppers don't you? Well I mean, I love them too. I think that this summer I will build a pcb mill using a set of those. Do you have a website where you are looking at them?by redskinsjbs - Controllers
You can overcome that with anti-backlash systems built into the machine too, right?by redskinsjbs - Controllers
Hey Brian, PCL and CAPA are one in the same. PCL is the scientific abreviation, I think it P-oly-C-apro-L-actone. Its coined CAPA by the guys in the business cus that just sounds cooler. Or at least that my impression of things.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I am going to be giving a presentation on RepRap at Dorkbot this upcoming Tuesday. Dorkbot is a DIY tinkerer get-together, so we might get some new members of the community then. Wish me luck. Why do they expect a high schooler to do all of this? Whatev, I guess its because I enjoy it.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
FOr the Dual arduino setup, the PowerCOmms board is needed. This is just used purely as a link between the Arduinos and nothing more. If you are using the single arduino setup (I think that is the only functioning firmware available right now anyways), the PowerComms board is not needed.by redskinsjbs - Controllers
You can use just one arduino, and this is the way you should go for now. But be warned, this means that every pin on that arduino will be used, which means that there is now room for expansion of you RepRapby redskinsjbs - Controllers
Sad to say that there wasn't a functioning reprap on hand. Just one that looked cool and one that could draw some frickin sweet circles!!! I didn't take any photos because I forgot my camera, and anyways, Mark and I were Waaaaay to busy talking to everybody about the RepRap project to have time to take some. I know that Mark took some photos, so I'll ask him for them. I hope to be able to print rby redskinsjbs - Reprappers
Thats exactly what I did, and it worked out really well.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
So today I just got back from Robotfest at the Historical Electronics Museum in Baltimore Maryland. Mark Adams and I had a booth there where we spread the word about RepRap and the RepRap goals. I think it was pretty successful, and when pictures are uploaded to the web, I'll be sure to post a link. Just saying that we are slowly gaining publicity.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
Hi Guys, As a part of this project, one of the goals I set for myself to do was to get the RepRap Host running on my Asus EEE. Now I installed Ubuntu on it no problem. Then, when it came to installing the different Java versions for the arduino, I would get some errors returned. I'll get what the error says exactly tomorrow because it is pretty late right now, but the general gist of it is thaby redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Oh, ok. Thats a good idea. Thanks Nophby redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Hey guys, Is it possible for one of you to compile all of this stuff into one file? I want to be able to email it to a bunch of my friends because I think that it is some pretty neat work. If it will take too much time don't worry about it, but otherwise, i would be extremely thankful.by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
