Oh, think of the possibilities!!! When you have a kid, you can etch a near invisible barcode into their tooth or something and then you'll always know that they are yours. Or the ultimate tattoos for teens. They tatto their hair, and if they don't like it, it just grows out.by redskinsjbs - General
Reece--- Could you by chance try to use the newest version of the host that contains the g-code section? My biggest problem with installing all of this stuff was getting the java libraries to point to the correct places, so if you would include that already in place on the newer CD I'm sure it will save some one or two headaches later on. Plus, it kinda of just makes more sense seeing how the arby redskinsjbs - General

As most of you know, Chris Meagan has created another GUI to control the printers using Gcode. My question is: How to you get the host to print out Gcode so that you can import it into Chris's GUI?by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Hey, I was just wondering why we are limiting ourselves to a type K thermocouple with the new circuit board. THats if we are limiting ourselves to that at all really. Personally, I would think that for the moment we would want to use a type T thermocouple. It is much more accurate over the current temperature ranges than the type K that is being used.by redskinsjbs - Controllers
Ian, could you elaborate on what you were sayingby redskinsjbs - Reprappers
Have you tried just hooking the nichrome up to a variable voltage thingy and see how hot it gets? My thinking is that maybe the amount of voltage that the electronics want to send through the nichrome is just physically not enough.by redskinsjbs - Controllers
Enrique Wrote--- "The only thermal limit I can see is that the stainless steel shaft will transmit some heat to the stepper motor. It will not transfer much because stainless steel has very low thermal conductance for a metal, but it still has more than cement or ceramic. I speculate that the current design will go to a few hundred Celcius before the motor gets too hot and with a cement or ceramby redskinsjbs - Mechanics
~Forrest So do you know of a supplier in the US?by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Ahh, no worries. Its just that Capa is just so darn expensive. I'll wait and see what results nophead gets with ABS.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Forrest I read your blog and I swear you are a genius. Those pellets are so mush easier to find than the filament. One thing I would like to mention is that I think if you reduce the extrusion barrel length from 8mm downwards, the diameter of the filament will be less predictable. This isn't from and experience, it just seems like the longer the plastic is in the barrel, the more it will want toby redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Why don't we print in ABS? I haven't looked into that as much.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Yea, I think HDPE shrinks much more than the rest of the lotby redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Thanks again Steve. About your polymorph issue with it being flat and all, I say that when the plastic is gooey and ready to be formed, press it between two metal plates. It shouldn't be that hard to find two pieces of metal that are flat/strong enough, and to press it you need only jump on the configuration. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeby redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
OK, so here is how I fixed it. The symptom was that the threaded rods would kind of wobble back and forth when the belt was turned on. This would cause them to dig into the plastic, thereby seizing up. To fix the wobble, I glued some washers to the top corner bracket which were able to support the top of the threaded rods, preventing them from wobbling.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I have a functional frame for my Darwin, but I now have some pieces left over and I have no idea what they are. Someone tell me that they are useless before i have a catastrophic failure due to an a monkey's construction error.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Thanks Steve and Forrest. I guess I should create a direct drive extruder that gets a lot hotter. That way I can cut my costs by about 3. (CAPA = 75$ per 2kg = < 2 Darwin ||| HDPE = 25$ per 2kg = < 2 Darwin) Therefore, since 75$/25$ = 3, I expend 1/3 of the cost for the plastic excluding the capital needed to soup up the extruder to HDPE standards. Sorry about the goofy math. Its Springby redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Ian The way I see it, the current dual arduino setup with Gcode applied would have more than enough room to store the preferences for the printer heads. The switch/homing stuff I cannot help you with, except for maybe just simply plugging in the opto switches into the wrong side, and/or (some combination) running the stage in reverse.by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Good idea. Makes sense. 'Nuff said.by redskinsjbs - General
How long would a 2kg roll of CAPA last me? Is it enough to print another Darwin? Maybe two? This is where it would helpful if I could find that volume calculator that was in the forums a little while ago.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Its not and it doesn't actually. I was having a problem with the threaded rod digging into the bottom corner brackets, thereby immobilizing my z-axis. I fixed it by just creating a hollow tube out of washers that would hold the top of the threaded rod in the correct position. Works like a charm! The threaded rods are still in their exact same position, I have just added two locked nuts at the topby redskinsjbs - Reprappers
IN that article, it talks about them reducing the temperature required to just about room temperatureby redskinsjbs - General
Where can I get pcl or pla filament? Do you guys have any suggestions? I am in the US, so if there were a manufacturer here that you knew about it would be greatly appreciated.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Hey Erik, If you've ordered your parts from Ian, then you've done the same as I have. The one thing you must watch out for however, is that Ian has made many of the parts fit together in only one sort of configuration (eg, nearly every corner bracket is different) I also had some trouble freeing up my z-axis. I don't know if it was purely user error, but I fixed it with some washers and super glby redskinsjbs - Reprappers

An idea about the RepRap print queue. I am currently attempting to design an arduino-driven mini computer that would read .txt files from a flash drive. This way, you print to gcode, and the plug in a flash drive with the gcode information stored on a .txt, and viola, you begin printing. I was thinking that there could be a marker at the beginning of the text files that would essenitally be a 'pby redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
