Is this a good sign or bad sign? Problems talking to machine - 15 years ago

I knew this is where i'd start to struggle! I can assemble bits of metal but making a computer talk to it would always be a challenge! Story so far: * 2 different Macs, 1 PC running Vista. Using Vista as stuggled to find others talking about Mac issues. * Battled with drivers for USB TTL and getting software to recognise COM port but I think I have sorted that. * Several installs and uninstall

Viktor, I downloaded the data sheets and tried to match the pins up but i wasnt 100% sure. If I understand you correctly, I need to do the wire the cable like this ..... ... Wiki .... My connector 1 GND = GND 2 CTS Not available 3 VCC = +5V 4 TXD = TXD 5 RXD = RXD 6 RTS Not available And with the 2 missing ones on my board, i need to solder a wire direct to a pin of

Thanks for responding Viktor. I'm not sure what you mean. Can i simply create a cable where the 6 pins on my connector are linked to the motherboard or do i need to do something a little more fancy to pick up pins from the chip on the convertor circuit board. I'm mechanically minded, not electrical! Thanks Matt

USB TTL cable pins - 15 years ago

Bought myself a USB TTL cable off eBay which i hope someone could help with .... a USB 2.0 to TTL UART Module Serial Device Converter CP2102 Chipset which i believe to be a Silicon Labs product. Looking at the converter described on the wiki, , and comparing it to what the item I have bought, the pins don't match 100%. Hmmm, decisions, decisions! Had time to take a look and i've installed the opto on the correct side of the machine, i.e. over the z stepper so that should be fine. However, looking at the x-axis, if i look upwards at the gear on the x stepper and rotate it clockwise, the extruder will move towards the stepper motor end. From the end of the machine i'm sat it moves from right to left. Now if I h

x-axis back to front - 15 years ago

In my excitement of the build I think I have installed the x-axis the wrong way round, i.e. the stepper for x is not on the same side as the stepper for z. Logic says i'll just be able to reverse the stepper wires to compensate but is it that simple? Will i cause other problems such as positioning the opto stop etc? Hope not, i've come this far! Mendel jig bar tolerance question - 15 years ago

Hi all, I've about 90% of the Mendel BoM together and I've just started building. I have a quick question, the jig bar is quoted as having a tolerance of +/- 0.2mm on its length, how have you guys achieved this? Have you all been out and bought 300mm verniers?! Cheers Matt
