(RepRap Användargrupp)
Clerck is printing reliably and prints come out good enough for self replication (even with 1.2 mm nozzle). Check out Vimeo and blog.
I see this concept as proven now, maybe I'll put on a smaller nozzle just to be able to comparable level of detail directly to other RepRaps. Final exams are getting close, so development will slow down again.

Thanks @maso!
I've done some rough calculations on resulting forces and momentum if lighter Nema14 motors were used. My qualified guess from this is that hanging RepRaps with smaller motors are feasible, so I will try to go for smaller, cheaper more easily frameable in my next design.
I have a really patient wife who lets Clerck take over the kitchen for now, but in a months time I've got to d

Does anyone have recommendations regarding driver chips?
I'm soldering on the drv8825s to put them in fast decay mode, like Quentin Harley does here. I would like to get rid of the soldering routine, but keep the smooth running and high current. Would this be achievable with for example SilentStepsticks?

@Ezrec: I don't know anyone who have made a hanging RepRap, even without a gyroscope, but it's definitely a good idea!
It moves now. Lines tight and all (for a little while before it crashes into the floor). Check it out: Vimeo.

Looking forward to seeing what the prints are going to look like

It's true, we need to add some complexity to get scalability. For me it started with a wish for easier (less time consuming) reproduction. The most fun and fulfilling thing I do with my RepRaps is to make copies for friends and family, and observe how they end up using it. Some let it collect dust, some end up making a living out of it and most end up printing stuff I could never predict the need

I see, predictable wrapping is obviously very important. I'm quite impressed that you manage to make the strings wrap onto a nice single layer.
Have you thought about winding the strings around threaded rods or larger spools? Mounting the steppers on top of threaded rods, and letting them slide up and down in a stepper-shaped tube could make the strings' winding-radius and winding-point constant

Wow LoboCNC, nice work! This is just fantastic!
About SkyDelta: Brandon Heller is currenty investing all his time in a startup and doesn't know if/when he will finish the SkyDelta.
How do you deal with line building up on your spools?
I'm currently doing a master's thesis on another cable driven parallell RepRap very similar to yours, check it out:

Still collecting my thoughts about the weight-at-end-of-line solution, I just wanted to mention a couple of developments in the project:
I'm doing my masters thesis about Hangprinter! So we're rich in potential work hours =D
E3D have kindly sponsored the project by sending me a free Volcano power pack, a hobbed bolt and 2 kg of filament =D Big thank you to E3D!

Sorry, I read answered as if you had written just "spring", and not "spring loaded rewinder". A spring loaded rewinder would of course be much smarter than just a spring,
since we could use spiral torsion (constant force) springs for winding. Let's limit discussion to springs are made for one full rotation (360 degrees) or less (don't know about realism in this assumption, not my area of expertis

Definitely, swapping one motor with a spring would be possible. Saving a motor is a huge win but there are drawbacks.
The main one (I think) is that the printer wouldn't be able to accelerate quickly along the action line of the spring. The printer will be heavy because of all the motors onboard, so it will carry more momentum than for example the Sky Delta.
A smaller issue with a spring is tha

I'm wondering about the roller-fairleads, if I would be better to just use fishing rod leads since I want to aim for cheap and simple. The roller leads adds a lot of complexity to the build...

You have to make the print head extra heavy.
I plan on having the motors on the platform. This makes the design more compact too.
QuoteDejay
The main problem seems to be though that during extrusion the extruder normally "flattens" the extruded material and "scrapes" a bit over the stuff. This is normal but with wires this causes forces upwards and creates slop.
That's why I think thr

I get tempted to build since the feedback I get here is such high quality!
You're absolutely right that the existing delta firmware should fill the needs of Hangprinter, it it's just modified to solve for the "rod lengths" =D Thanks!
There is a slight concern with the Marlin firmware in that is uses floats. Rod lengths will typically be long (since a room in a house is the frame), and moves are

These are fantastic resources, Dejay, big thanks to Steve Graves too!
Inverse formula
I only found information about forward and backward kinematics in the resources. In a way it makes sense since the firmware needs to give the motors constant speeds in small time intervals anyways. Converting the two string lengths (call them A(t_0) and A(t_1)) to a motor speed is a matter of dividing their dif

Wow, Viktor! I searched your old threads looking for work on the maths and found out you suggested and built a tripod with ball magnets (delta) printer back in 2007! Thats cool!
Anyways, the only maths I found in the thread were simply using Pythagoras to convert (x0,y0) and (x1,y1) into (a0,b0,c0) and (a1,b1,c1). To do a long linear movement with constant velocity we need more information. Chop

I would of hoped to see a list of current/previous/proposed future development in the field of reprap.
A list like this would be nice, since I know other people have a better overview than I have. The list would be very long, and the people writing it would have to invest a lot of effort to keep it complete and up to date enough to be useful.
I think the whole discussion on

Hi Viktor!
Nice to see that a lot of things have already been thought of 7-8 years ago! You (and all RepRap community) are an experience gold mine. I will look at the threads more closely this evening/night.
What was it that made you abandon the idea?
I would also be very interested in pics/sketches from where the development of the RepRap hanging in rollos left off
Cheers

Does it help people to make their own copy or is it mostly an excuse for shop owners to put dozens of shops links into their descriptions?
I've had limited success trying to use shop links from the Wiki. Shopping advice provided by local users or user groups are more relevant and works better. I mainly use the shop links as a shortcut to datasheets.
