that is exactly what I did, i had already inserted a central 2020 strut, so i could shorten the filament path in the bowden tube, so i used a little 2020 stock left over to create a bar with a post on it that is used to tension the belt. Works really well. The only caution is that the motors are not very rigidly mounted and will rotate around the plate they are sat on. so if the tension is too hiby Tshawkins - CoreXY Machines
What about using a 0.4 mm nylon printing system and use fishing line as filament stock, used with a 0.2mm nozzle it would result in a low extruder pressure, but may require quite high flow rates. A small printer that could print small items to high degres of accuracy in nylon would be extreemly usefull. At the small sizes, problems with warping would be minimized.by Tshawkins - Developers
You should not have any problems attaching the hobbycomponents drivers, you just need to locate the pins on the pololu socket on the ramps board, that has the 4 signals you need, a simple header with the wires soldered onto it would suffice. You may possibly have some issues with pulse width on the step and dir pulses, but i belive those are configurable on Marlin, as the there was a need to makby Tshawkins - Developers
Its a given that you must have polulo or stepstick driver boards plugged in and they have to be installed the right way around, they are not keyed, so it is possible to get them in the wrong way around.by Tshawkins - Reprappers
Quoteedn QuoteTobinatorCO Hi Ludara, Just for comparisons sake, what are your settings in configuration.h for the following? #define INVERT_X_DIR false // for Mendel set to false, for Orca set to true #define INVERT_Y_DIR false // for Mendel set to true, for Orca set to false <--Thing to note for me is that I run a mendal and have to set this to "false", not true as noted in comment.by Tshawkins - General Mendel Topics
I have a omron spy402 ir proximity sensor which is very very cool, it uses modulated IR to eliminate the effects of ambient IR from sunlight or the hotend or bed itself. Its seems to be very very accurate. Im running it up at the moment as a non contact bed leveling probe.by Tshawkins - Developers
While you guys are considering inset values, would it not be worth distinguishing between internal and external perimeters, (holes vs outsides) and having seperate inset and extrusion width values for each, also potentialy having an "area" threshold to further partition internal perimeters into large and small. Hovever that could present some challenges on tapered voids. Algorithms for calculatby Tshawkins - Slic3r
Consider using a car solenoid, a bit clicky in bang bang mode, but cheap and easily available. The coil on a solenoid can be driven with a relativly low current device.by Tshawkins - General
Just assign 3 pins each for vss and ground, that will give at least 10 amps.by Tshawkins - RepLab Working Group

Sounds like the current on your stepper drivers is not setup, try setting all the small trim pots on the stepper drivers to mid way and try again, then back off until the motors stop and the come forward a small bit again.by Tshawkins - RAMPS Electronics
I understand that nylon needs to be printed onto a celluose based bed to get good adhesion, materials like wood, fine fiberboard, and in some cases people have used denim cloth attached to the bed with an artists spray mount glue. Some of the fiberous ceiling tiles have also been cited. I have just ordered 3lb of weed wacker nylob from amazon for $18 To try this out, i have a machine with dual quby Tshawkins - General
I have exactly the same problem with black PLA, i think the problem is that black PLA retains heat and stays soft for much longer after being extruded than other colors. Its also possible that its re-absorbing infrared radiated heat from the nozzle as it passes close to it again, the black color would result in it absorbing energy at almost any frequency (its why summer wear is white). so that ifby Tshawkins - Slic3r
Has anybody had any experience with printing MEA's for fuelcells , i understand the main component is a specialy forged flouroplastic membrane, around two flat electrodes. I realise the effiency would be way down, because of the lack precision in the construction, but the reduction in cost would be significant. Currently a 2cmx2cm MEA costs about $100.by Tshawkins - General
I have a printrbot simple with the same problem, its caused in my case by temperature sensativity on the board, if you squirt the board with a blast of cold air it will just startup again mid print and carry on, because the hot end is still hot, it will continue from where it left off. However dont leave it for too long in that state, if the heat is on, and its not reading the thermistor, it wiby Tshawkins - General
Im also interested in this project. I also believe having the stepper motor drivers on the board is not a good idea, I'm building a combined CNC/3d printer, and need a lot more current support, potentially up to 3 amps per winding. If the board can output buffered enable, step, direction, and speed lines for each axis, then the user is at liberty to chose whatever driver technology theyby Tshawkins - Controllers
I think a parts list, and a list of possible suppliers would be a good first step, i am based in pasig, i have a load if experience with electronics and software, and have been building devices with arduino for some time. I really want to build a 3d printer but i'm not big on the mechanicals, and i have a lot of problems finding the parts. A parts list and supplier list would be a big step fby Tshawkins - Philippines RepRap User Group
