Can anyone explain what that new "5D-firmware" does? I find it referenced all over the place but neither the wiki not the blog explains what is ment by 5D. Surely it's not a reprap with 2 additional axes of movement.by MarcusWolschon - RepRap Host
I see a lot of trivial parts on thingiverse and objects.reprap.org . Is there anyone using a RepRap to build more "interesting" devices like the parts of a mechanical arm or robot-legs or something like this?by MarcusWolschon - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
So....it's been more then 2 month now. Is there "enough demand" or are you canceling this offer?by MarcusWolschon - For Sale
I would expect magnetic bearings to have major issues with mechanical feedback from the printing-head-assembly. Think about the material-feed tugging at the head and the mechanical momentum of the fast moving head. It would need to react extremely fast and accurate.by MarcusWolschon - Mechanics
Thanks. I'll see what can be done to port it to a "proper operating system" and a "proper language" then.by MarcusWolschon - RepRap Host
Forrest Higgs Wrote: > That's about it except that I don't use G-code. Ah, what a shame. My device will be a RapMan, so I guess I`ll require G-code and cannot work with Repman-specific commands. But I could have a look at that VB-code anyway to see what I could rewrite. Marcusby MarcusWolschon - RepRap Host
Does anyone have a working host-software to do milling with a RepRap/RapMan? I guess it would just transmit the same G-Codes for movements that are used in printing but know the shapes of the tool-head and the milling-bit and keep track that it's location never intersects the model? (As well as mill out as much depth as possible as milling-bits don't work well subtracting sub-millimeter layers oby MarcusWolschon - RepRap Host
VDX Wrote: > ...or when fabbing with different materials, > then you can use water-soluble support material > and wash it away. I though the RepRap could not do multiple extrusion-heads (required for multiple materials) yet? What soluble materials exist that the current head can work with? I only know of a number of plastics but nothing water soluble. Marcusby MarcusWolschon - 3D Design tools
How does the support-structures look like? Suppose you create an object with a horizontal, round hole in it. As everything is made with the same material, what is needed to clean the object? Does breaking off support-material damage the smooth surface of the created object?by MarcusWolschon - 3D Design tools
Could someone link these in objects.reprap.org ?by MarcusWolschon - General
Let me guess...you are extruding Soy instead of plastic?by MarcusWolschon - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)

It is still 5 weeks until my Repman-Kit arrives but I'd like to have a look at your model to see if and what parts of it can be produced. Marcusby MarcusWolschon - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Hello. My RepMan-kit should arrive in about 6 weeks and until then I'll try to get a reprapable model of the different parts of a Portal Gun (as a prop for a custume) going. Is anyone else interested in this and willing to cooperate? Apart from <45° overhangs and the resolution, what else do I need to worry about when doing the model? So...what is everyone here using his/her RepRap for? Just to get some discussion going and to get a feeling of that people are doing once their RepRap is up and running...by MarcusWolschon - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)

One other issue I have with blender: Our host-software is in Java. That would mean that with a python-plugin for blender instead of a Java-plugin for AOI developers would need to know 2 very different languages very well to write good code for this project instead of one. That seriously limits the development-resources here. (I've seen other large projects run into serious problems and not getby MarcusWolschon - RepRap Host
* AOI is open source too, so that's no argument. * Python is no "higher level" then Java. * That blender is recognized inb hollywood is also no argument. We are (mis)using the software as a cad/cam-program. We are not making movies. Your point with the keyboard-shortcuts is exactly what I'm talking about. I used a lot of 3d design-software in my past (loving ti write Maya-plugins on Irix in theby MarcusWolschon - RepRap Host
I don't think this is a good idea. Blender has an extreme learning-curve and discourages new users while AOI is easy to use and the code looks pretty clean and well designed. I'm currently writing a plugin for AOI and it's really easy.by MarcusWolschon - RepRap Host
Thanks. What do you mean with a "blog splash"? PS: If you add a "---" in front of your signature it becomes easier to see where you post ends and your signature starts.by MarcusWolschon - General
A larger machine need not mean larger objects. You could use it to produce more objects under remote supervision before human hands are required. Or print parts onto larger, existing objects. Or mill a larger object (with a fan blowing the dust off the work-surface) and then print things onto it. Looks like it's all just software, calibration and sensors. I wanted to add www.reprapsource.com to the hardware-pages like as they also sell the PCBs and full kits. Can anyone with write-access do that? New users cannot register so I can`t add it myself. PS: What parts of the wiki ARE editable? Marcusby MarcusWolschon - General
I`m thinking about building 3 version 1.2 stepper-motor controllers. First for a CNC-mill and maybe later add an extrusion-head too. 1) I`m not good at soldering small things. Is there any reason for using the version 2.3 (http://reprap.org/bin/view/Main/Stepper_Motor_Driver_2_3) other then that is has fewer parts and is a few euro cheaper? I guess the version 1.2 -board will still be compatiby MarcusWolschon - Controllers
