I Look at Darwin as the first step, where as the 2nd or maybe 3rd step will be able to produce products which are: large, precise, very high detailed (think gears and bearings) and strong. and do so fast. when that happens there will alot of stuff you would suddenly realize you don't need to buy anymore.. just randomly picking from my desktop: broken keyboard keys, stapler, hole puncher, watchby Leav - General

you can buy a complete mechanichal kit from BitsFromByetes, and a complete electronics kit from the RRRF store. -Leavby Leav - Reprappers
welcome to the world of making a RepRap I'm in the same boat as you. any help regarding making sense of the extruder part list(s) or the Cartesian bot part list(s) would be greatly appreciated. -Leavby Leav - Reprappers
Greenarrow: I agree. even just knowing that he has a big user base waiting for updates could really motivate the developer. -Leavby Leav - RepRap Host
yeah you can't even save right now... but it is the only CAD program out there being developed to do exactly what we need. it would be a shame to let it struggle all on it's own....by Leav - RepRap Host
avoCADo... hmmm... at the very least, I like the name! Now this sounds promising! read the vision: I'll shoot them an e-mail - it would be cool if they could integrate RepRap into their design intent. @Forrest this ties in to what you were saying: I'm sure AoI's community would not be thrilled about us wanting to take AoI into a new direction. avoCADo on the other hand... they just might beby Leav - RepRap Host
Here's a constructive Idea: I agree with the instinct to cling to open source, although nothing open source currently matches professional software (even for our simple uses). How about setting up a fund with the people from AoI (or just us) to solve the problems in the software. it would be like the millennium problems, just for RepRap and AoI. (http://www.claymath.org/millennium/) the fundby Leav - RepRap Host
Hi Kyle, I tried doing that, but couldn't find rapid prototyped objects anywhere on the list. it looks like a list of stuff to buy, as opposed to a list of all the stuff you need. am I wrong? (hopefully) -Leavby Leav - Reprappers
> most of the effort of the core team is focused on > ironing out the kinks and not on the documentation > or on the file structures. I did not think about that... I guess this explains alot just a thought: if we start out with an ordered release structure - phasing into public release would be much easier. lots of the ground work would be ready. anyway: once more unto the breach! -by Leav - Reprappers
@ronanwarrior I'm sure you could use non-stretchy string. maybe very thin steel cable. @pete the fact that i'm not the first to think of this takes away from the glory of discovery a bit, but it is out shined by the brilliance of knowing that my idea might actually work! -Leavby Leav - Mechanics
Here's an Idea: why not try to use simple string as the belt? a string wrapping 90 degrees of pully would certainly not generate enough torque, but since the friction force increases exponentially with the number of revolutions around the pulley it might be possible to print 4 pulleys with spiral patterns on them. each pulley would get 3-4 winds of string and if the string would be even lightlby Leav - Mechanics
Hi! Running it to some problems here: there seems to be many version of files and I am a bit confused... I downloaded the most recent files from sourceforge for the Cartesian bot and the extruder, but I'm at a loss as to finding the list which specifies how much copies are required of each part. There is the Google Doc ofcourse, but I have been told in a another thread that that is outdated.by Leav - Plastic Extruder Working Group
@Forrest: integrating Quasi-Commercial software into RepRap makes me feel sick too... STL is a great format in my opinion. I don't know where it was implied in this post that it should be abandoned... :/ All I am really asking is this: if AOI is not ready to be used as a design program for RapRap parts (second hand information here), what is the project's course of action? a)Ignore the problemby Leav - RepRap Host

Hi! (Preface - I have never used AoI) NopHead's recent post regarding the AoI mesh problem revealed something as problematic as the mesh problem itself: AoI is not an engineer-oriented software. I am learning solidworks at the moment and I can see how using an engineering oriented tool would be neccesary in order to produce results with the reprap on a large scale. Imagine you need to creatby Leav - RepRap Host
nophead, First - thanks for your input... I think you cracked it Second - Is there anyway to get SolidWorks files for all the parts? (i'm sure the originals exist in sort of CAD form other than stl...) STL is like a binary file for SolidWorks... it can do very little with it and it is ver difficult to handle - having the originals would make it easier to do a virtual build and get a feel forby Leav - Mechanics
Hi, Turns out we just overlooked X-PCB-Bracket, it's there. we are also guessing that 'Studding tie bracket' corresponds to 'Z_Studding_Drive'. is this correct? we still can't find 'vertical hole plug' or 'Z opto flag base' anywhere.... your help is greatly appreciated! -Aur & Leav (Team Israel)by Leav - Mechanics
Ah! finally a reply! Glad to hear someone agrees with me on this... Anyway we can contact the head honchos so we can actually get something done? They don't seem to lurk around the forums I guess (or they are just avoiding this thread ) -Leavby Leav - Reprappers
Hi guys! I have a team (Ok, me and another dude from my university) gearing up for our own RepRap (yay!). So "Team Israel" (that's what I call us had a meeting today and were trying to sift through the parts listed at the SourceForge site and it wasn't really simple... So here are the problems we encountered, on some we seek your help (please!!) and on some we have suggestions: 1)To many paby Leav - Reprappers
Thanks! I have good news: I talked to one of my proffesors at the Technion ( www.technion.ac.il ) and I got funding for a RepRap project. This means I might even get access to a plastic RP machine would you suggest molding or RPing? If the price isn't too high I might go with the Plastic RP and have it make all the parts... Is there an advantage to pouring plastic into molds? seems to me itby Leav - Reprappers
Hi Viktor, Thanks for the input... Hopefully I won't be asked to pay for this (i'll to get the university to sponsor it) but I can find out what the cost is (i'm sure they transfer funds inter-departmentally). I have had a chance to look at the of the printer and it looks pretty good... it's very accurate but it has a rough finish. It is very very brittle! Hi Guys! I'm starting to shift into first gear with my "Let's build a RepRap" Project.... It seems that i *may* have access to a rapid prototyping machine which prints out plaster parts. The plaster is wayyyyy to brittle to use as Darwin parts, but I had the Idea of creating "Inverse" Cad models of the Darwin parts, basically creating single-use molds... hey, you have to download the file (might need to use file>save page as) and rename it from: reprap-logo-packagetar.gz to: reprap-logo-package.tar.gz Nice logo... I'm not a designer but I would go with having the drop outline complete instead of the text interfering with the outline... the darwin logo is amazing!! I love it! Good job! -Leavby Leav - General

Hi Guys! My name Is Leav, and i'm a mentor of a FIRST (www.usfirst.org) robotics team in Israel. I'm very excited about the RepRap project, and I don't think I should explain why on this forum I'm going to have my team (Highschool kids) start building a RepRap when BitsFromBytes start shipping kits again, but I have some questions about RepRap for now: 1)what is the status of the Replicatioby Leav - General
