Hi Guy's.
Been off list for a long time due to work and life commitments,
I think a catch up of the group would be good and most times would suit me as long as it is not on a Saturday.
I should be back to assembling my RepStrap very soon, just about finished the new (but tiny) workspace, so I have some where to park my tools.
Cheers
Osc.

Great to see another machine on the go.
My build has ground to a halt over the past couple of months as we have had a few medical dramas at home.
Like you I am adding the extruder to a (mostly built) CNC which I have been making from my own design. So far I have sourced all the CNC parts from Oz and have been lucky to find the ground shafts, bushes and lead screw and nut on eBay.
I have had

Pretty quiet around here guy's.
I must admit my progress has been slow of late, but I promise I will post some pictures real soon.
Keep Building

There are lots of differing electronic systems that can be used for Repraps. IE Arduino or Makerbot etc.
All the electronics I'm using for my CNC/Repstrap are from Oatley Electronics in QLD.
Oatley's CNC Page here:
Here is a PDF of all the wiring and Boards:
They have kits for the PC Interface, Power Supplies, Driver boards for 4 wire and 6/8 wire stepper motors.

I'm about to order some more extruder kits and a roll of sheathed nichrome wire. I am just working out the qty's and best source for the wire.
Anyone interested please leave your name here.

I should add me own stuff I guess.
I have worked in a variety of mechanical positions, automotive and machinery based. I worked on computers since the eighties and ran a small servicing business for too many years. I have interests in Mechanics/robotics/electronics and I is pretty well hooked on anything that makes noise, light, smoke and moves. I am truely Geek.

At this stage, I think it is a race to see who gets one operating first.
I'm currently modding/finishing my CNC which will do dual work as a RepStrap as well

Hi Brian,
The 5 kits arrived today, great quality (for anyone thinking of buying) I'm just waiting to get a few more responses and I'll hopefully place another order soon.
Again Thanks

I got my first (test) delivery of five extruder kits from the States today, so far I have interest in four of them and one I am using for myself.
If any of the kits are not taken then I will put them up for sale again.
if anyone else wants to buy one of these kits then let me know and I'll import some more. postage is just the same for a bunch of them as opposed to just ordering one for yourse

I think this is a good as any place to Leave you're details and interests.
If you're happy to have other members contact you leave a current email address as well or maybe set-up a Google account just for this purpose.
It would be great to build up a list of members skills or talents that would be of benefit to the rest of us. IE Programmer, electronics supplier, machinist, etc.

Hello all Melbournians,
With the growing interest in building RepRap equipment in Australia and In particular Victoria, I deemed Melbourne a worthy place to start our own community.
Please post your details and build progress in the relevant areas, post pictures, advise, questions or ideas and lets make this a resource for all to use.
Again welcome and enjoy.

Thats The last one of the extruder kits claimed for this batch, I will contact each of you very soon as to payment and delivery details.
There seems to be enough interest to organise another delivery, so keep your eyes out if you're after a kit.

Looks like I have interest from Fergus, Cogsy and That Guy for three of my four spare kits and I will contact them separately.
If anyone is interested in the last kit let me know ASAP, I will be bringing in more bits and pieces and more extruder kits in the future, but it will be more than likely as I need bits for myself
Cheers

I have just ordered 5 sets of extruder parts from the US. each kit contains the PTFE insulator and a brass heater body/nozzle.
I will be keeping one set for myself but the others are up for grabs. I will sell them for $22.00 plus postage.

Just a quick update,
The parts will be for version 2 and comes with a PTFE insulator and a Brass combination heater barrel and nozzle (0.5mm orifice)
This a much simplified design (see here )
This design does not require the drive screw, bearings etc.
Pricing will be around $20.00 AU per kit. I will be bringing in a batch of ten but I will want about 5 confirmed orders before I do so. if

Hi everyone,
The Australian RepRap groups seem to be losing a bit of momentum lately, I think this may be due to the lack of parts here in Oz.
I have looked at sourcing all the metal parts from the U.S and am inquiring to see how many people would be interested in a kit.
The kit contains:
1 brass nozzle with a 0.4mm orifice
1 brass heater barrel
1 PTFE thermal break
1 steel drive screw

It seems like I answer my own posts,
I have further modified the design of my CNC machine, the original only had provision for the z axis to be up or down as thats all I needed at the time. Now I have redesigned the axis like a standard CNC and will have a fully operational y axis with about 150mm travel and will look at mounting an extruder head to this.
More info and pictures as they come to

As a rider to my last post, for all of you who are thinking my CNC machine is missing a required axis (the stage to lower the material being extruded)
I have thought of that and I am looking at the possibility of making the XY axis lower through the CNC Machine bed. Or a screw arrangement that is mounted on/through the XY base and be controlled by a simple motor to raise/lower the extrusion.

I'm also in the throws of building an CNC machine and currently looking at combining the two in a single machine.
All the stepper driver and control circuitry is from Oatley Electronics in QLD and could be good for this project as well. it will run from any CAD - CNC - G code software. It is modular and well documented.
So I have two choices, a stand alone machine of which I will need printed
