If anyone in the states want one, I'm selling my SBASE v1.2. It's been modded with stable oscillators (I'm the one who discovered the initial issue), and the DRV8825s are forced into fast decay mode to allow the use of low inductance steppers with 24v, so no need to mess with diodes. Wow that's a great price. I use a Duet 0.6 on an Ord Bot Hadron and it's tough to beat for the money--and for a basic printer you really can't go wrong. I got mine from a batch of spares that were made by a small Canadian 3D Printer company who rolled their own copy of the Duet 0.6. It's been a real workhorse so far.

Those little 7805s can run pretty hot, so if it's working OK I guess you could just see what happens. Do you have it fastened down to a metal surface to sink the heat away? I don't use one with my copy of the Duet 0.6--I just use the on-board bucking converter so I'm not familiar with how the external one mounts.

Oh, so the regulator board is also used as a pass-through for the 24V power! So that's a different problem...if I were you I'd connect your heavy 24v power cables directly to the Duet and then feed the 5v regulator separately. There's really no need to pass all that current through those extra connections.

I'm not certain but I believe the device on that little regulator board is just a 7805 linear voltage regulator. It's used to power the logic devices on the Duet board and isn't effected by your heaters, fans, etc so the timing of the smell was most likely coincidence. Since the 7805 is a linear device, it regulates output voltage by converting unused energy into heat. In your case, regulati

That's strange, I just printed this 180mm multirotor frame last night that I sliced with S3D. This was printed with MakerGeeks PETG filament on my scratch built OrdBot Hadron and is notoriously difficult to keep the arms from lifting off the glass. I used a 200% first layer width and 5 parameters, and I'd say S3D did a fantastic job with the first layer. Mind you I'm using a Duet/RepRapFirmwar

Be careful, if I recall the vias under the drivers are "untented" meaning there isn't any solder mask insulating them. If those vias are part of the supply domain and your heat sinks make contact with them they could end up being live and potentially short to a grounded chassis, etc. Odds are they are ground vias, but I'd measure to be sure.

I don't think it's necessarily that the DRV8825 has issues when used with faster controllers, but rather the timing requirements become more critical when used with faster controllers. In my experience when 3D printing with Machinekit on a BeagleBoneBlack and CRAMPS shied, when using either Allegro or TI drivers you must adjust several timing parameters to ensure reliable operation. But I imagine it's not out of the realm of possibility that someone could search online for "Smoothieboard" and end up looking at an SBASE. I must admit I find it ironic you're afraid of the SBASE being copied in an inferior way, is that not what the SBASE is of the official Smoothieboard? I'm not sure about other countries but since I'm in the states I normally buy from Digikey.com and recommend their part numbers SER3441-ND for the Ethernet PHY and SER3424-ND for the uC crystals. These are 30PPM stability parts and should do the trick nicely. I'm sure many other component vendors have the same or similar crystals available. It's important to note if load capacitors C52 and C

So, the 2nd SBASE provided by the eBay seller arrived yesterday. Other than the package looking like my mailman sat it on it, the board itself looks as nice as the first. That's about the response I would have expected. It's unfortunate, but I've been down that road before with Chinese amateur radio equipment. At least in this case it's an easy fix for folks who have the means, but I fear there will be many who don't. As far as their failure to entertain the notion of kicking back some royalties to the Smoothie guys, why not just send them a donation instead?

My beef with the Duet is in my case both my printers use dual Z steppers and I don't like the idea of splicing two motors to a single driver. Last I read it wasn't possible to use the 2nd extruder driver on Duet v0.8.5 for the Z axis like you can a Smoothieboard (via simple 4-wire jumper)...is this still the case? $50 for v6 sure is temping though...even if just to mess around with to familiari

From what I understand Duets are not so easy to come by in the states...but it's good to know RAMPS-FD is a mess, so thanks for the heads up! I have a BeagleBoneBlack so maybe I'll eventually get a CRAMPs board instead and give MachineKit a try.
