I really don't see any advantage either - surely a PIC programmer should connect to the ring in the same way the extruder/motors/etc do..?by randomdude - Controllers
I've just found that Eric M. Has had pretty much the same thing done with another company - its in the builders blog. These parts aren't CNC millable, or I'd be able to get them done at Uni or in a nearby workshop.. they need FDM I'm afraid :/by randomdude - General
Hey guys. A friend just pointed out fdmonly.com, a service to FDM simple parts, and I mailed them the darwin extruder .STLs expecting them to come back with some ludicrous price - but they say they'll make all five of the extruder parts in ABS for $208 USD (aboutby randomdude - General
I've started writing an 'arbirtary command' option dialog, intended to replace the command-line 'poke' tool.by randomdude - General
I think models need a number of 'requirements' fields, as the project will continue changing and different things are possible. For example, when models go up that have electronics, they will need the ability to make PCBs, so that'd need to be logged and searchable. The same goes for support materials, etc..by randomdude - General
Awesome, dude! I'll be really interested in your progress to adapt the extrusion head to a millable design, its something I need to work on soon I think. Adapted extrusion head for milling would mean that anyone can get stuff milled fairly cheaply.. hope you'll contribute them to the project!by randomdude - General
Kind of. I'm a _reasonably_ decent coder (I think pure code is what I'm best at), and am pretty keen to contribute to reprap. Only thing is, I've only done a few simple things in Java before, and haven't used it in anything major - so I'm definately not the Java Expert you're looking for. I do think I'd be valuable to work alongside one, though, so when you find one, or even if you can't, I can sby randomdude - General
I think there is a windows version of kiCad but its for-money. I could be wrong, I just recall someone saying that. I think my skills would be better used coding than making robots, so I might have a bash at some of the code. I'm a fairly experienced coder but haven't done anything 'serious' in Java yet, but 'java' is on my to-do list so this seems like a good project to pick some up with I can'by randomdude - General
.STL files are in subversion. See my thread earlier asking where they wereby randomdude - General
Ace, nophead, I won't be able to for some weeks yet, so perhaps my best bet is to wait until parts are availible instead of hacking around. You know, when I think about this, we really need some 'que' thread so people can wait for parts in an orderly fashion..by randomdude - General
You might want to put a more obvious note on directing people to IRC.. the 'chat is also availible' at the bottom made me think that the app an IRC frontend for that very channel. I'd volunteer to set it up - and will if no one else will - but my skills with anything web-based are notoriously bad, so I'm only a last resortby randomdude - General
Yeah, I think a lot of us are in the same boat here. I was planning to get my University to fab me some parts but its transpired that thats not possible. I think my next plan is to hack up a hot glue gun based extruder, or possibly to drop about 1-2K on a CNC Mill via the wonders of ebay, which would be able to mill the bits we need (and probably quickly enough that it'd be feasible to send out aby randomdude - General
Ah, okay, thanks. Presumably he posted them when I PM'ed him and I didn't check. Got the wrong end of the stick there then, so apologies!by randomdude - General
BTW, guys, I PM'ed Adrian and it looks like (unless I misunderstood something) he won't be posting STLs of the extrusion head until the resources are ready to sort out kits. Odd, since everything seemed to have a very 'heres where we are, come help' attitude.. ah well. *shrug* I won't build one (for now at least) then.by randomdude - General
Its more the building of *sdcc* from source I was wondering about, rather than building the firmware itself.by randomdude - General
If its just a matter of editing the makefiles to wget a binary snapshot version, I'd be happy to have a go over the next week or so. If its something more complex, though, its probably out of my league. Incidentally, building on Linux (on my debian box) was a no-brainer.by randomdude - General
I couldn't agree more with your sentiment. I *really* don't get why _sdcc_ is built, though - building the firmware is one thing, but it seemed unneccesary even for developers, to build the toolchain.. am I missing something?by randomdude - General
It was the precompiled SDCC binaries in the zipfile.by randomdude - General
Oh, and another thing. I spent a good few days trying to get the subversion archive of the reprap-fw to compile, but it kept failing while trying to compile SDCC. The tempory instructions worked like a dream though - Would it be an idea to plop a link to the on the svn page?by randomdude - General
Hey there. The link to check out the host-side stuff on the wiki (http://reprap.org/bin/view/Main/Subversion) appears to be wrong - the link svn co isn't there according to my SVN client but svn co works, and is in line with the other URLs. Apologies if I've missed something but this seems to need editing and since I can't register for the wiki (assuming I didn't make an account when I firby randomdude - General
I'm another student - I plan on getting my university to fab the parts I need. No idea if they will or not, though.by randomdude - General
That'd be awesome..another step closer to downloadable hardware. I'd offer to lend a hand with it but webdev really isn't something I know much about. Still, its something on my list of things to learn more about - I was pondering making a google earth based app that would show the physical closeness of certain reprappers, so that once a few people have the capabilities to fab parts it'll be pretby randomdude - General
Awesome - I just found the .STLs in subversion. Perhaps a pointer to svn should be in the building guide on the wiki..?by randomdude - General
Thats the other thing I was going to mention - Can I have access to post there? I was going to post in the PIC programemr thread saying pretty much the same thing that you did, about integrating into the IOBox module. a few digital lines and a few lines that are settable to arbitrary voltages, which is all programmed under software, would be a really neat soloution and would scale nicely to otherby randomdude - General
Hi people. I'm looking to get involved in RepRap, and the fist step is making Darwin, I guess. Since I'm a student at an UK University, I figure I can talk them in to fabbing the parts I need - but I can't find the plans I need to fab said parts (stl files, I think?) on the wiki. Can anyone point me to them? I'll stick them on the wiki, if thats a good idea. Also - you seem to have a decent guidby randomdude - General
