So playing around I found a working (tested) solution for mounting my thermistor in a removable fashion that still got good readings. Inspired by Vik's blog reference to using a copper tab.. i couldn't find any thin copper tabs around USA Penny 1981 and earlier are 95% copper Canadian Penny 1996 and earlier are 98% copper Of course you have to have a large drill bit that will make a hole justby RoundSparrow - Plastic Extruder Working Group

I encourage you to started a thread in the newer (and mostly empty) Extruder forums. Someone also recently pointed out that 3.0mm is the max... we really need 2.6mm? I haven't done any study here, just spitting back up what was here on the forum.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Steve DeGroof: my first comment on this: It would seem ideal to me that someone make some kind of calibration print that pushes a particular material+extruder combination to the limit. For example, with a given extruder nozzle on Darwin 1.0... you should be able to print this particular shape... And photos and dimensions of the shape be well documented. So that all of us building could be conby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Since that meeting I've started a new thread here on the forums and now it is more clear to me that HDPE needs more like 220c instead of the 160c I was using. Also these high temps seem to really push the JBWeld and other materials... so this will be a good issue to focus on (hopefully we can play with multiple extruders at the same time at the meeting).by RoundSparrow - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
At the Houston meeting on Sunday, topic came up that the official parts.reprap.org suggests the PIC-PG3. This requires a computer parallel port... which many systems don't even have any more. One RepRapper had programmed his parts with the serial (rs232) PIC-PG2. Since the RepRap already requires a serial rs232 interface... seems logical to switch the official recommendation. Plus the PIC-PG2by RoundSparrow - Controllers
My intention is to EDIT this first post of this message based on feedback This is a bit USA centric. Supply problems and such. I'm not trying to be, just that is what I know For example, we recently had an issue with motors taking 4 weeks to deliver from the UK and costing more than many people thought reasonable... and a group purchased has helped that for many (16 sets or so; I think Zachby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Our Fuzzy's Pizza meeting facility worked so well... I suggest we plan a meeting soon with the goal of it being hands-on construction and testing. I would suggest 12:30pm to 4:30pm. I would say we need to have at least 5 confirmed attendees to make this kind of time commitment worthwhile. The last meeting was suggested only a few days before... we are 11 days out on this one, I think that shouby RoundSparrow - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
Ok, so conclusion is that nophead is the authority on practicals of HDPE. I wasn't even trying for anything as high as 200c so I need to start at maybe 215c and my clogging problems should hopefully go away. However, it is looking to me that JBWeld isn't holding up to 240c on a regular basis (nophead is having what I consider major damage after ~13 hours of runtime). I encourage a marketplace forum where people can posted WANTED: or FOR SALE, READY TO SHIP: offers. For example, I bet people would pay for assembled electronic boards (cost of parts + labor + shipping). Not everyone sets up a store, the private messaging of the forum works on a lot of forums (Anandtech comes to mind).by RoundSparrow - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I agree with the groove design, I keep pushing mine out too. The higher temp materials present a problem, and heat seems to make things worse.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Based on Nophead's last comment: I can work on code (proposed Java patch) to make it a standard feature of RepRap Host to log whenever the heater is active. That would seem to be good basic information and it isn't like it really consumes that much disk space to record a csv file or something that shows heater on time.by RoundSparrow - Plastic Extruder Working Group
The wiki instruction page: Says: "The extruder needs a supply of 3 mm diameter polymorph filament as input." Like others here, I have the HDPE from the RepRap foundation store. Using the Extruder Exerciser, where should I start? Here is one Forum reference: (Dan Putman) Practical HDPE questions ====================== 1. Heater temperature? I'm setting 170c 2. Motor speed. Also found out this machine uses 1KG ABS cartridges that cost USD $250 each; this suggests to me that they are trying to make money on the selling of the print material also (much like Inkjet printer market).by RoundSparrow - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I found this interest, as they extruded a cup with the goal of finding the speed breaking point: For normal speed, also watch: Also watch: The comments say it is a "Dimension BST 768" machine, these have a suggested retail price of USD $18,900 (and probably sell cheaper). I see references to ABS as the material. Some interesting things in the comments: ===================================by RoundSparrow - Plastic Extruder Working Group

Great Zach; anyone else here in the USA know where to start on this, duplicate efforts welcome.by RoundSparrow - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Not with my "first gen hardware" - we can do that at the meeting. however, I know my RepRap host software works fine with the Ardrino - so my software is all good. And I know I have a good USB to rs232 adapter too... AND I have a different set of boards than you do... so I'm pretty confident we will get somewhere. See you at the meeting, heading out.by RoundSparrow - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
I haven't actually been using the "first gen" electronics much, so I've been getting them together to be as ready as I can. I also just now got my PIC programmer confirmed working on a laptop I'm bringing with me. I've got one of the stepper motor tester LED boards, I think that will be good enough to test with. I'll bring some extra wires, etc.by RoundSparrow - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
Reference: I am interested in sourcing this for the USA; group purchase or whatnot for experimentation. I will help finance and ship a group purchase... but need help on where to source, finding lowest cost, etc. Is 2.6mm the ideal size?by RoundSparrow - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Looking for suggestions from anyone: What's the latest on sourcing CAPA suitable for direct use in Darwin Extruder - here in the USA? Since we have a new forum with topic of Extrusion - figured best to revisit the topic from the top. Thanks.by RoundSparrow - Plastic Extruder Working Group
