Howdy, First off, if this is covered somewhere, please point me to it. I am playing with the latest SVN version of the Arduino firmware; I'm using the RepRap Host Extruder Exerciser. Is 3.6 volts what I should be expecting in terms of the what the heater is provided... Poking around in the firmware, it seems that the heater can be set to high/low/off (var heater_high) - but the Extruder Exercby RoundSparrow - Controllers
Any hints on how I can tell these two apart? The boxes they came in weren't marked in any way I observed. #1 One is slightly thicker and white. #2 The other is thinner and more translucent (white/clear). I'm guessing the HDPE is #2? Stephen Gutknechtby RoundSparrow - Plastic Extruder Working Group
FYI... Playing around with the extruder exerciser, I'm running into some similar problems to what Steve originally posted. In my case, material "mushroomed" inside the extruder tip and I was no longer able to melt it. I have a fluke IR Thermometer and it was clear to me that the temps were much lower at the head than at the main part of the shaft... short of removing the tip and cutting offby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Yha, i encourage to bring your computer ot try and get the software working. I will be bringing my working set of electronics {I have both sets} - and I have my extruder completed as of this morning. I will have a complete set of working software on LInux and I also have Windows Vista with me and an internet connection. I plan on staying at least 3 or 4 hours, please do if you can! // Stephenby RoundSparrow - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
Fuzzy's Pizza is highly rated and I proposed that for the location. I'm flexible on the time of day for Sunday... Fuzzy's pizza is open until 9:30pm on Sunday. Looks like a 12:00pm Houston game and a 3:15pm Dallas game. I have a Slingbox I can setup on my laptop if Fuzzy's pizza doesn't have the game on. I have a DirectTV NFL ticket, so no blackouts. I'm honestly not much of a football fan ,by RoundSparrow - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
Not enough activity here in San Antonio forum, so posting in Houston forum.by RoundSparrow - Texas, San Antonio RepRap User Group
Speaking for Texas, I suggest it all be combined into one forum and let message topics serve for cities. I'm not even sure who requested the original San Antonio forum as they never posted in it! And Houston and San Antonio could be combined (with Austin). it is pretty clear that the level of activity is low, so best to have us all work togetherby RoundSparrow - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Sunday, December 30 proposal? Say some place in Katy from 3pm to 6pm to watch football and talk RepRap? I would be coming from far side of San Antonio... and buying Pizza!by RoundSparrow - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
I suggest you guys edit the FIRST post in the thread you made and not do replies. Me in Canyon Lake (San Antonio): I am building: 1. Darwin 1.0 2. McWire RepStrap 1.2 3. "Old electronics" 4. "Next Gen Electronics" (Audrino) Done list: 1. Software installed and running (Linux Ubuntu 64bit) 2. Working power supply 3. Since McWire now has own forum and the Wiki (http://www.reprap.org/bin/view/Main/McWireCartesianBot_1_0 ) has stuff dating back to September... I wanted to report my own recent observations and questions. Having seen a working McWire work in progress, I am excited and intend to build both Darwin and McWire RepStrap. When I was in NYC last week with Zach, he indicated that he still needed to tesby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
In the month since this thread started... Zach has indeed done the first batch of motors and the price is now much lower (down to ~ $25 a motor). That's the price to beat at this point.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers

Given the homemade electronics and wiring... Seems obvious to me that it would be ideal to run software that tests as much of the unique functions of the device. I know some individual test scripts have been posted, but I'm thinking something more comprehensive. Ideally something that runs as quick as possible, but blinks every LED and runs every motor to the optical stoppers; perhaps with varby RoundSparrow - Controllers
Zach and I were testing the new electronics and we observed a pattern where the heater element had some lag time and the heater on/off was fighting with the motor timing. This was with the latest software as of 1 week ago. you could watch the temp fluctuate as much as 25c... and the motor would stop pushing while it cooled off/etc. There is for sure some combo of issues: temp of heater, tempby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
mellery Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Will the reprap firmware work with a mcwire > repstrap? My observation is that Zach himself hasn't yet extruded anything as complex as the Minimug using the Ardrino + McWire combo; at least when I was with him in person last week. Zach indicated to me that his goal with the new Ardrino firmware was that it could driby RoundSparrow - RepRap Host
Ok, I just confirmed on all 3 of my boards, which Zach assembled one of them... and I get 0.1 ohm resistance (continuity) between SYNC/SYNC on the same board. These SYNC connectors don't even have different names. Are we sure we are talking the SAME board here? 1: Stepper Motor Controller Card - v1.2 2: Stepper Motor Driver v1.1 (Arduino) I am specifically referring to the "Driver" not "Conby RoundSparrow - Controllers
I'll rewire... i wonder why my continuity showed them bridged (this was before soldering anything on these pads), I'll test all 3 boards when I rework. Zach: I suggest the wiring diagram should depict the two separate sync wires instead of showing it as a single wire.by RoundSparrow - Controllers
Are you setting the com port correctly in the Reprap java software? If the echo works with outside software... maybe just not opening the port correctly.by RoundSparrow - Controllers
I tested the software, reading pin #0 does indeed return the correct temperature (confimed by heating up the thermistor). Reading pin #14 returns 85c constantly. So Zach must have it right. Only problem I seem to notice with the firmware is that between close/open of the programs it doesn't seem to return all the boards to a known state. I have to basically power down the boards to get everytby RoundSparrow - Controllers
I'm working with the newer Ardino setup... But I can say that "tools->diagnostics->basic comm test also isn't doing anything" -- same here. It seems non functional (I'm on SVN 1217). However, my boards are working - as I can use the Reprap.jar to turn on the cooler (fan) control. But the "basic comm test" does nothing.by RoundSparrow - Controllers
I got the latest SVN to compile... but at least revisions 1210 and 1217 have a typo where "ThermoPlast" has the "P" capitalized on an include filename and you have to correct this (at least for most file systems on Linux) Also found you need to delete the .o files in library tree to get them to actually recompile.by RoundSparrow - Controllers
SVN revision 1217 still seems to have the problem with the include filename "P" in "plast". I found out to actually get the libraries to update (compile from source), you have to manually delete all the .o files in the library tree, otherwise the software skips compiling them. Is there a way to "rebuild all" and force it to recompile?by RoundSparrow - Controllers
Ok, the SVN revision 1210 at least... there was a problem with the include filename having "P" in "Plast" capitalized. Got past that.by RoundSparrow - Controllers
Has anyone (beside Zach) been able to compile Single_Arduino_Snap.pde - seems like I might be missing some files or something. details here in this new thread Probably a mistake on my part, but looking to see if anyone has downloaded the files and compiled them.by RoundSparrow - Controllers
Hi, I've had good luck compiling the individual test scripts for the Arduino... but the /snap/Single_Arduino_SNAP/Single_Arduino_Snap.pde will not compile for me. BTW, I'm on 64bit Ubuntu 7.10... but like I said, the Arduino is working fine with the various RepRap board testing scripts, so I don't think that 64bit is a factor. I've tried both the latest from SVN and the download zip files. I'by RoundSparrow - Controllers
Ok, I just tested with my multimeter and determined that on the PCB the two SYNC pads are connected So I'm assuming that it is really just one wire... So I assume you wire like: A ---> B <--- C Where on the center of the three boards, the two pads act as a meeting point (hub) to the other two boards.by RoundSparrow - Controllers
I'm a little unclear on how you connect the SYNC wires between boards. Reference, this wiring diagram: Do all 3 get tied together? Is only one of the pads (wires) used or do you use two? Thanks.by RoundSparrow - Controllers
I did drill two out with drill press, and results were not very good. Inner insert turns. I'm thinking of just using a 1/4 inch rod in place of the reprap 8mm rod.by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
So the BOM specifies a McMaster-Carr part that has a 1/4" bore... yet it is supposed to go on a M8 metric rod? It doesn't fit. it DOES fit the shaft on the motors... but the Y pulley goes on a M8 rod that is coupled to the motor... or am I confused?by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
