Cheap! Wrote: > > What type of computer do you use? Linux, Mac, > > Windows? > > Windows XP No real reason you have to learn Linux right from the get go. RepRap project is trying to support Windows too. Review this: However, the newest RepRap software isn't as easy to download, you have to download the latest version using developer tools (Subversion client software).by RoundSparrow - RepRap Host
On Sunday night, Zach went out and put in a order for the latest design of laser-cut acrylic parts for the McWire. I ordered everything off the parts.reprap list (I think) and brought it with me. I will try to figure out what I'm still missing and post back here. I expect by Thursday night should be pretty clear where we stand. // Stephen Gutknecht /// In Brooklyn, NY assisting Zach this weekby RoundSparrow - Mechanics

There a pictures of Bruce's Darwin 1.0 on his blog: He went the wood route, great to see it.by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
What type of computer do you use? Linux, Mac, Windows? Have any experience compiling Java programs? Know how to download from subversion, SVN? To develop on the project, I assume most are using Linux. The LiveCD is a bootable cd-rom you can download to start Linux up on your computer without having to install Linux on your hard disk. Here is where most start on Linux:by RoundSparrow - RepRap Host
If someone can confirm this, I nominate it be added to Wiki. (lube advice)by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
My understanding is that the software has parameters that allow some variation. which Design? I think Zach is making the new Arduino interface even more flexible in terms of interface.by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
"RepStrap: McWire" (the Movie!) is getting a lot of attention of late, but I'm still wanting to build a Darwin 1.0. That picture on the home page is just too ingrained in my head (and I have most of the parts). I want to appreciate the design, be it great or imperfect. So at RepRap foundation studio here in New York - Zach's Darwin has the motors removed, not fully assembled. I intend to try aby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
Zach, going over my parts I ordered on November 20 using the parts.reprap.org site... there are some issues. The Reprap website specifies: 1) self tapping screw 10-24 x 3/4", part number 98273A255. However, that part number on McMaster-Carr is 1/2" length instead of 3/4" length. Also, did you change the part numbers on the flanges since the time I ordered? 68095K121 vs. 68185k112 -- 3/4by RoundSparrow - General
Aren't we getting pretty close to printing some of these parts within say 30 days?by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
I think Zach describes it best... more radical on open source and cheaper. Although I think RepRap is a little more behind, but using time wisely.by RoundSparrow - General

Zach, there has to be a tat shop in Williamsburgby RoundSparrow - General
seems well below 400 EURO mark. The USD has declined substantially since this project startedby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
ok, I overlooked another Wiki page that discusses the very topic of this forum thread. <- WiKi page "PrintingMaterials" From the Wiki page: "In this section we will discuss a number of materials that can be used with RepRap and the ways to use them, as well as the core information needed for their successful application." Suggestion ============== So this is basically the RepRap Owner Manuby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
A suggestion that maybe the forum could be organized around activity... This is far from perfect, but a general example of forum topics: Darwin 1.0 Arduino McWire (next gen development) Experimental Materials Research Experimental Movement Research Extruding Objects (RepRap output) Project People, Administration, Promotion Goal ========= I assert that as more and more people try to assemble aby RoundSparrow - General
I am still confused, I did research this (ABS extruding) 1. Show original post on this link: Adrian Bowyer posted in that Blog that ABS melts at around 110 C. 2. Forrest in a blog reply saying that it is pressure more than temp that matters. 2a. Forrest says here on another blog reply : "I recently redesigned the extruder barrel for RepRap's Mk 2 extruder so that it could be made outby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
ABS really hasn't been extruded? Zach is selling it at the store, I assumed it was proven. I found this blog comment: Forrest Higgs said: "ABS, at least the white pigmented ABS that I've used, doesn't go transparent. I don't know what virgin ABS would do. What I found is that it requires not so much a very hot extruder barrel, though that helps, as a lot more pressure from the polymer pump."by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
Adam, I think Zach is still working on that. I suggest you keep on this particular blog posting at Hope this helps.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Hi Adam, welcome. I'm just another RepRap user, not part of the organizers... but I'm trying to get involved in bringing the cost down. I think eventually the assembly of a RepRap will require less sources and less work. To the point where people will be offering completed kits and ultimately printing it for you using their RepPap. I personally find the PCB electronics soldering to be a slowby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
I think at minimum there should be a message thread with a compiled list of what remains to be done... and edited message marking the date of each accomplishment. Then we will have a good idea of how close we are...by RoundSparrow - General
So I've coaxed Zach into letting me hang out with him if I just so happened to show up in NYC next weekend. I've got all my Reprap parts in a box, totally unassembled, and I'm bringing them all the way from San Antonio, Texas. I am volunteering to help Zach out filling website orders, molding parts, digital photos, or other low-skill labor in exchange for letting me sponge knowledge and hang oby RoundSparrow - New York City RepRap User Group
check is in the mail, I expect you should have by Monday (mailed from Austin).by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
Hey Jim, welcome. I'm here in Canyon Lake Texas and I think you and I made contact via pmail. I think I have most of my parts now, with the rest shipping now. I used Mouser, no problems.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Howdy, I notice this PCB is part of the 2.0 kit, but I couldn't order it individually. How important is this board if I'm trying to keep up on next-gen? Are there more new boards coming?by RoundSparrow - Controllers
The idea occurred to me of letting people here on the forum use the RepRap I build remotely. Build a java web server application to allow uploading / control, a schedule of when I can be around in case problems develop, etc. I am still in the assembly, parts gathering stage... and the software will take time... but I see possibly by January 1? Is it worth the trouble, any desire?by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Augur, you mean like a welding robot? Image: Another image:by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Zach, so watching this it seems to be entirely based on the next-gen Arduino electronics. Do you consider these boards ready?by RoundSparrow - General
I would honestly suggest that someone step up to the plate and print some for Zach to sell via the store. Cafe Press is very popular because it is so easy, but their profit margins are way too high for my tastes. I hope the foundation is getting at least 40% back on these prices.by RoundSparrow - General
