Skeinforge does produce a materials cost and machine time cost per printed part. I am not sure where the setting is - I will check tonight but I think it might be under statistics somewhere. You enter cost per kg.by AgeingHippy - General
Hello All I am looking at burning the bootloader on a breadboard. Since I do not have a computer with a parallel port or a AVR programmer I have 2 options... using my USB-TTL cable and program it using bit bang mode, or using the G3 motherboard as an ISP programmer. Now the documents I can find for using an arduino as an ISP here give some direction. My question is whether the pins indicated oby AgeingHippy - General
quite! Personally I prefer to have a forum where I can browse at will with threads linked rather than having to trawl through unrelated emails...by AgeingHippy - Kartik M. Gada Humanitarian Innovation Prize
People may need more than this. What electronics? How are you sending instructions? How are you testing the extruder? What are you using to generate gcode or not there yet? Have you tried the motor on a working extruder controller? NEVER DISCONNECT STEPPER MOTORS WHILE THE POWER IS ON or you will blow your circuit board...by AgeingHippy - Reprappers
Hi guys. Can anyone clarify why we should turn off firmware acceleration when slicing with Skeinforge? It seems to me the acceleration code would be useful.by AgeingHippy - Skeinforge
Welcome I have G3 running, but that is old stuff. If I was to do this again I would build the pololu solution designed by Adrian. Simply because it seems relatively diy. For the rest I cannot help you. Perhaps you should ask on the main boards as this is a problem not specific to the UK but to all. good luck with your build. You will have fun and learn loadsby AgeingHippy - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
@tesla Cheaper if you do not factor in your time costs... If I included my time then woo - I would be spending loads!!! @Ataraxia - a working printer within 3 weeks!!?? Maybe you would be better off subcontracting your required prints out to a pro establishment? FWIW although my printer is working I still have a lot of downtime due to various issues that crop up. I certainly would not depend onby AgeingHippy - For Sale
guzzi There is a G3 wiring diagram. For the rest, as Traumaflag says- it depends on your electronics you are using.by AgeingHippy - Developers
Wehey Pleased to see you Laszloby AgeingHippy - General
Hey ftc Don't drill out your PEEK !! I doubt that is where your problem is. My problem was with the PTFE=white stuff (as opposed to the PEEK=brown stuff) and the hole was too big not too small... lol - I am probably jumping the gun here and you probably spoke hastily but knew what you were meaningby AgeingHippy - Reprappers
@Sebastian I guess I cannot point at any specific nozzel but it seems to use elements found in many GPL nozzels as found on the wiki. These include a nophead style heater block, a PTFE thermal break and PEEK hat which holds the threads (reifsneiderb's PTFE/PEEK hybrid initially used). But then - I am only an armchair lawyer and woe betied anyone using my sayso as a legal basisby AgeingHippy - General
One of the regular failures I initially had with my hot end (not Arcol but a PTFE/PEEK hybrid) was when the extruder had been on for a while the PTFE/PEEK section would heat up enough to soften the feedstock inside the thermal break (PTFE). Then, because the barrel inner diameter was 3.2mm and the PTFE inner diameter was 3.5mm the plasitc in the PTFE would swell under the pressure from the extrudby AgeingHippy - Reprappers
I think it is quite simple. The licence Laszlo has used is invalid because it is based on GPL licenced nozzles... and I don't think anyone can argue that.by AgeingHippy - General
Just a thought, but perhaps a wheel type blade much like a pitza cutter as opposed to a knife type blade?by AgeingHippy - General
ilion Sounds like the finish you are looking for is currently not achievable with the reprap printers. Perhaps you can look at this although I don't know if he has released any build plans anywhere yet.by AgeingHippy - General
@13'thfloor Be sure to manage the quality when talking to the Chinese. Someone in the UK got a load of stuff but unfortunately the quality was a little off - the profile was oval at probably 3.2 by 2.8 or thereabouts. Nasty profile.by AgeingHippy - General
I agree that this issue in itself is minor, but it is a wedge issue and needs to be addressed. Is there any input from the author? He must be aware of this thread.by AgeingHippy - General
I have a bog standard phone that is about 6 years old. Up until I found this app a week or so ago, I have been totally satisfied with my phone. Now I want a smart phone so I can get this appby AgeingHippy - General
Hi Dale I do think the resistor in a block of metal = heater block is non-obvious, but Arco does not have the credit for that. I am sure that if I or anyone else decides to use the Arcol.hu extruder design and produce it commercially (which the selected CC licence prohibits) the designer will not bring the resources required to bear to prosecute... but my complaint is that this non-commercial lby AgeingHippy - General
I am using a Makerbot G3 extruder controller and the power runs from my motherboard to the controller via the RJ454 connector and a CAT5 cable. My heater works fine so the cable can carry the required power... Uses 3 of the cat 5 wires per pole if you examine the schematic.by AgeingHippy - General
That is fair enough Tom, but the design is based on open source (the heater block) so should be of the same licence? The heater block used there is integral to the design. Further, the use of a barrel screwed into a PTFE thermal break... There are many elements of his design that are inspired by GPL licensed elements... I certainly have no problem with people making money from their own efforts,by AgeingHippy - General
For my part I would not support Arcol in any way. Having such a license is totally against the spirit of Reprap and I bet you anything you like that he used parts of the design of GPL extruders. For example, Nopheads heater block. That is an approach that Nophead pioneered and it would be interesting whether he licenced that at all. If so then the licence of the Arcol hot end is in violation.by AgeingHippy - General
lol - sorry - cannot help you there. I use a vitreous enamel resistor myself. Post your source here when you do find it - might be others with the same desire.by AgeingHippy - Plastic Extruder Working Group
When I needed to drill a 3.2mm hole in my PTFE thermal break for my hot end I did the following... First I clamped a vice on to my drill press table, making sure all drill bits would reach and that I would be able to change bits without moving the drill press table/platform whatever you call it. Then I clamped a block of wood in the vice and drilled a 10 mm hole in the wood (my PTFE was 10mm)by AgeingHippy - General
Hey Flackster If you decide you do not want to go for mendelfactory given the postage charges, or to the usual on-line suspects (again due to postage charges) you can take a look at this post for a source for a heater block and resistor. Cheersby AgeingHippy - Reprappers
Seems like trying to fix something that aint broke!!by AgeingHippy - Plastic Extruder Working Group
This (the Clip idea) sounds interesting. I do think the temperature issue does have merit though. I have reduced my print temperature from 210 to 195 (first layer 210) and the blobs seem somewhat smaller...by AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Wehey Cheers Dale. btw - I do remember you mentioning this in a previous post, but was lazy. Turned out to not be much effort at all and certainly worth it as I now can edit what was previously an STL. Three thumbs up to you FreeCAD seems to be a rather powerful application at first glance.by AgeingHippy - General
I am looking at installing Blender which requires Python 3.x Skeinforge documentation states it requires Python 2.x Python has made a break moving from version 2 to version 3 so backwards compatibility is not assured. Does anyone know for certain (1'st hand experience) of whether Skeinforge will run on Python 3.x? Thanks seems I can install a Blender executable and only need python if I wisby AgeingHippy - Skeinforge
