Mangaliron: That's exciting! Very glad to hear an update on this, and to hear that a process is becoming standardized and growing in popularity / availability!by HanClinto - Plastic Extruder Working Group
This was a fantastic show, and I'm really glad I got to come out and visit. Thanks so much for putting it on!!!by HanClinto - General
What is the actual address of where it's being held? Edit: Nevermind, the survey link was updated to add the address. Royale Phoenix 53972 N. Park Ave. Elkhart, IN 46514by HanClinto - General

"What prevents Company X from making a strikingly similar product and closing down the "source"? "Drop this tech into, say, Detroit MI right now and...um, it'll get ugly. " lol. I don't think it's exactly difficult to procure whatever kind of firearms you want in Detroit right now, even without 3d printers. The thing is, general purpose manufacturing tools (such as a RepRap) will never be able to perform as well as specialize machinery. Both for quality (strength, tolerances, etc) asby HanClinto - General

I don't have any first-hand experience with this sort of thing, but Nophead made a post about this very thing last year. He also made a followup post describing the accessories that he thought worthwhile to buy as well.by HanClinto - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping

Intriguing thoughts -- nice writeup. I'm curious to see your stepper column sketches.by HanClinto - Delta Machines
Thanks for reformatting that thread, Lee -- well done! Thanks for letting us know what happened, Forrest -- no worries, and I hope you'll forgive me if I over-reacted. --clintby HanClinto - General
Uhm, did the thread about the current licensing problems with RepRap seriously just go "poof"? I don't have an axe to grind on the issue, and I'm happy to see the discussion locked, but I put a lot of time into trying to write calm, thoughtful and sourced explanations to be a searchable reference for the next time this issue comes up. It's disappointing to see discussion questions nuked by outrby HanClinto - General
@freds: Great idea about having a slot on the tray for the board to slide into or to rest in -- that's a really good idea! Also, I hope that we'll see more than just a single RepRap produced with a single printer -- at the bare minimum, we should see each RepRap producing three copies of itself -- one for spare parts, and two to give away. I realize that three boards isn't a /huge/ run, but it cby HanClinto - General
BDolge: Great distinctions about the "simple" vs "complex" forms about pick-and-place. As I was reading your post, I had a brainstorm. Perhaps this isn't a new idea, and has long been assumed, but at least the idea was new to me. I was thinking about the SMT machines we have here at work with the reels and feeders and whatnot, and how much of a pain it is to reload them and customize them forby HanClinto - General

I think one of the reasons why these machines are no longer in use is because the company that sold them to us is now out of business, and there aren't really people around who are trained in their use. Running my own SMT line would be cool, but I think I'm low on time, resources, and training for such a business. Still, I'll keep that option in mind. If I could acquire such machinery, is this sby HanClinto - Mechanics
As I'm collecting parts to build my first Repstrap, an opportunity came up at work today where I /might/ be able to obtain some old no-longer-used SMT machines. Apparently there's a paste printer, a pick-and-place, and an oven. My ability to acquire one of these machines is by no means guaranteed, but in theorizing about it, I was wondering: if you had access to a surplus specialized Cartesianby HanClinto - Mechanics
Hey Tom, I might be interested in helping build one for you, and I'm not too far outside the Chicago area. I'll hit you up over e-mail.by HanClinto - For Sale
As I was reading yet another conversation about the troubles with heaters melting the rest of the plastic extruder, I started wondering if we could use more ceramic insulators. "But where to acquire ceramic parts?" I wondered, and then thought about the possibility of extruding straight clay ( ) -- either traditional fired clay or some sort of air-dried clay polymer. I searched the forums and dby HanClinto - Paste Extrusion Working Group

Normally I'd point you to Bits From Bytes ( ), but they're currently upgrading their versions and so aren't taking orders at the moment. But they will be selling their kits again soon I imagine -- or are you interested in a more assembled product? I'm sure there are several people around here who would be happy to assemble a kit for you at a modest price. --clintby HanClinto - Wanted

Neat! Thanks so much for posting the pictures! I'm seriously impressed by the ability of this new pseudo-support material -- that's really innovative.by HanClinto - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
DaveR: I'm very interested in getting a puzzle design to be printed on RepRap. Ideally, I think having the final state be mechanically mobile and interesting (such as the TriGears puzzle) would be particularly rewarding -- more than a more traditional static shape made of interlocking assembled parts. What are some of the ideas you've been kicking around? --clintby HanClinto - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
I've been eying TriGears ( ) for a little while now, thinking of how we could make a similar puzzle for RepRap as a demonstration promotional item.by HanClinto - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Reminds me of the Tommelise ( ) -- a largely wood-built 3-axis robot that can be used for subtractive (milling) or additive (printing) construction of parts, including itself.by HanClinto - General
All of this talk of amateur use of high-power lasers just takes the health and safety guidelines of the RRRF ( ) to a whole new level. I think having a laser cutter on one of these things could be okay for the whole rep(st)rap conversion, but I'm still not looking forward to widespread use of these things. It seems to push the limits of the health and safety guidelines for the foundation, as weby HanClinto - Laser Cutter Working Group
