The width to height ratio is indeed something I totally forgot about. Thanks for reminding meby sungod3k - Printing
If recently did some major upgrades on my frame, so now I some hidden issues are coming to light. I had already invested in an E3D V6 and now Im also running a geared extruder, but there are still some persistent issues when it comes to .1mm layerheight and starting to wonder whether it is my bowden extruder whos causing them. In general the hotend ends works with .2 layerheight at around 75mm/by sungod3k - Printing

Yes that happened to me once as well, just pull the "under" out. I think that can happen by accident when you have a new spool, and it spools of a bit in the beginning. and if you manage to measure where you failed you might print only the top half and continue.by sungod3k - General
Hi, I'm getting good results in recent times with my improved printer. One issue that is now more prominent is how slicer handles the order of infill and perimeters. Is there a way to force slicer to start a new perimeter where the infill round was finished. With perfect retraction this wouldn't be such an issue but especially with bowden setups the little drops left over when the head startby sungod3k - General
Both, I feel if I screw it any tighter it will start breaking the plastic. But a locknut makes sense. Im gonna try that.by sungod3k - Reprappers
Hey, I recently switched to a geared extruder and everything works fine except that the cog thats on the motor shaft is coming lose all the time. I have one similar to this and modified the the bore to a D shape and reinforced the head to be able to screw it tighter and not break the plastic, but it came lose again. Anything im not seeing here?by sungod3k - Reprappers
Cant recommend aluminum as print surface. That bends to fast. If you can afford the weight of aluminum + glass on top its ok i guess.by sungod3k - Reprappers
Yes I agreee with solomondg, I experienced that as well some time ago. Start by reducing z axis speed by 50% in firmware and for the manual moves in pronterface.by sungod3k - Reprappers
E3D V6 is good. for me there was a bit of a learning curve but it works stable now.by sungod3k - Reprappers
Triffid hunter calibration guide has the formula for extruder (and all other) steps. If youre doing it for the millionth time however there is something structurally wrong with your frame. are the belts and pulleys tight?by sungod3k - Reprappers
On wiki you find different grades of precision. "H9" is what I was looking for last time I bought some. Stainless steel should be hard enough but the precision of the roundness and straightness is worth looking at. and the budget is the rest.by sungod3k - Reprappers
That sounds like a fun little project. but for me personally I have a full printer no need for something less.by sungod3k - General
I was at a similar stage and decided to go for a new frame. The threaded rod frame is unstable enough and even if you were to apply crossbracing this will be an fine tuning nightmare.by sungod3k - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Hi, Im looking for a good and cheap temp controller. Not an expensive sestos just something that can control a 12V hotend cartridge with a simple thermistor. Before this guy sold it I had a similar design in mind and also and acetone chamber with a heated bed attached could also use the mechanism. I found a lot of these units on ebay, I just want to see if someone made good experiences with oneby sungod3k - General
Yes I actually mailed with Tim and he layed out his thought behind the beta motor. Its much what you said about the gear box and stall torque. The beta motor has quite a reduced reduction compared to the first and he thinks that any more power would kill the gear box over time. One would need a motor with a reduction somewhere between 700:1 and 1200:1 which can generate 10-20 rpm and endure upby sungod3k - General
@ greenman: youre right it is lot (interesting to know the comparison with a car motor ) ) I found this one the most powerful version of it has almost 60Nm stall torque and I hear from other people using the same motor that they run in with 19V instead of 12 so there seems to be some space.by sungod3k - General
Yes i didnt see anything which leads me to believe that its not pressed. Its probably not that hard as well to find this helical cog somewhere else, but most producers only are B2B only thats really annoying. Another thing: would you worry about the gear itself having a limit in its power transmission? It was suggested to me that I shouldnt switch motors because the gear wasnt rated for higher lby sungod3k - General
Im trying to upgrade my Filastruder with stronger motor. So I took a look inside the gear box to figure out the shaft and it turns out it has a custom head. I checked for motors with gearbox but in the range of torque im looking for (50-100 Nm) they are super expensive. I was wondering where I could find a online shop which one can order motors with special shafts and cogs.by sungod3k - General
Hey, I always thought that buying one of these grinders for replicating keys would be a good investment but they cost 300€ and up. The mechanism isnt complicated and one could draw from copy router and use a dremel. Anyone ever thought of designing something like it? Cheerby sungod3k - Let's design something! I just received the iron and it seems to work well with the old station.by sungod3k - Controllers
aha, so the the vslot slot is much ado about nothing? ;-) and also what height do you have in your printer and what size profiles are you using, I planning one meter height and Im not sure if 2020 is enough.by sungod3k - General
Yes, I would have expected a different shape is there any indication how stable when theyre sliding? the contact surface seems much lower.by sungod3k - General
Hi, Im sourcing for a new printer atm so I checked out the Vslot, makerslider and other aluminum extrusions and while the former are great product they are also 200-300% more expensive. So instead of trying to fit the prodile to a slider why not go the otherway around and make a slider for the standard profile. like this guy here I imagine that if the profile is not a complete sharp 90° cornerby sungod3k - General
Alright, thought so. Ill use this oppotunity to improve my SMD soldering skillsby sungod3k - Controllers
Hey, I fried myself an Arduino today. I was measuring out the pots on one of the Polulos and then somehow *zapp* and smoke, PC shuts down and now the board is still recognized over the USB but isnt able to receive firmware. I already ordered a new one and its not the first time that happened to me so now that I can use the new Arduino as ISP I could try to talk to the old one, since its recognby sungod3k - Controllers
I dont think thats an issue. You could guide the last 10-20cm before the filament enters the extruder, but I dont see significant force lost due to unspooling.by sungod3k - General
Nice, the buzzing is most likely coming from wrongly adjusted pots. Be very carefull when turning them its very easy to short out the whole board. Ideally you take something made from plastic to adjust them.by sungod3k - Reprappers
Marlin sprinter doesnt make a difference and its not said that the official version wont work they just give some syntax errors which one can probably work around. Sometimes its also tied to one specific Arduino IDE version. Time out can be a lot of things I got it always as long as I didnt have the right firmware and IDE versions. The cycling I dont now, does it look like controlled movement oby sungod3k - Reprappers
He inscrease the surface of the part the bearings grap onto. Not a bad thought. It seems to workby sungod3k - General
