Standardising the mount of the toolhead/coldend/hotend would definately be a first step towards automatic/easier tool changes. The standard could define a hybrid mounting system: it can be used like normal (fasten the toolhead with screws) or it can be used as a quick-snap system where the toolhead latches into the mount. Obviously, it would need to be compatible to either, e.g. any 'standardisedby SarahMiller - Developers
Other projects aiming to recycle old material can be found in the Category 'Recycling' on the wiki: Also, the Granule Extruder is a toolhead aimed at melting and extruding plastic pellets. The wiki pages are and . Generally there are two approaches to the problem: A ) Melt scrap plastic into filament or pellets and extrude that. B ) Extrude the scrap plastic directly.by SarahMiller - Developers
I just found this page in the wiki: Seems like the problem we're discussing is not new. What's really missing is the overview. Once you decide on a base model (e.g. Prusa), getting an overview over the available variants and upgrades (e.g. the LME8UU bearing upgrade) involves not only excessive wikiwalking, searching the forum and visits to thingiverse, you'll also need to scrounge through a lby SarahMiller - Developers
I've been working with a pick'n'place machine during one of my internships. In the following, I'll talk about a heavy duty industial pnp machine, but I think a lot of that could be applied to RepRap. Before the PCB was placed in the machine, solder paste was applied with a stencil. The machine was packed with several 'feeders', which in turn held the spools with the smd parts or the rails withby SarahMiller - Pick-and-Place Electronic Assembly (and robots!)

So, we should probably start by looking at what upgrades people install in their printers and extrapolate a 'standard' Mendel/Prusa/Huxley2.0 from that data. Then, an 'official' could be designed which incluby SarahMiller - Developers

Couldn't you infuse the color directly into the liquid plastic just as it's dispensed? That way, the color would be spread relatively uniform in each 'blob'. Alternatively, in what way do the colors of different fibers mix? (Probably additive, but we're definately not geting something as simple as RGB or CMYK). Could we get away with building a three/four color extruder that controls the color bby SarahMiller - Developers
Hello. I've been following reprap development for about two or three years now, lurking on the forums and the wiki. Since I've got a lot of different things to say, I'll structure this post with some captions... On standards: I'd like to speak out for standardisation in general, mainly because standardised parts will lead to cheaper repraps over time. Also, having a common denominator for commuby SarahMiller - Developers
