Try the Parts Lister Most of the default suppliers are online stores based in the US but the main problem is the printed parts which currently are only available from the Bits and Bytes store at anywhere near a reasonable price. Currently these are made from molds but that may change in a couple of months as more of us finish making Darwins and start printing parts. Also note that it lists eaby reece.arnott - Wanted
I'm having problems sending commands to the Reprap and it seems to have to do with the order in which things are turned on and run. I am trying too run the reprap host (either 0.8.3 or 0.9) and going into the Stepper test to test the Z axis running via a USB->Serial converter cable. I know that when the machine is on it is connected as I can get an echo back from Minicom when the Tx/Rx is coby reece.arnott - RepRap Host

From the list of talks there look to be some interesting things on offer: If you scroll down to the Community Fabrication talk we are even mentioned in the abstract. That could be just that you didn't change the properties in the host to look for the usb as the default is the first serial port. Go to the File/Preferences port(name) and change it from dev/ttyS0 (first serial port) to /dev/ttyUSB0. I would think that in the future there will be autosearching capability but at the moment you have to tell the software what port is plugged in.by reece.arnott - General
I've just uploaded the latest .torrent files for the 0.7 developers version of the LiveDVD. I may have broken the 0.6 source files in the process as I've just added the additional source files to the same folder and there seems to have been one that got updated in the process. This version is just the 0.6 version plus: - Java 1.6 - Reprap host 0.9 - EMC2 software suite Note that it now containsby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
The main gotcha is that if you buy and build it piecemeal like I have over the last year you'll find yourself a little frustrated with the fact that everything is moving so fast you'll be kicking yourself you didn't wait a couple of weeks to buy that part thats just been redesigned to be be easier/cheaper etc. :-)by reece.arnott - General
I'm in the process of getting my Z axis working and had a couple of ideas to make things a bit easier. The main thing is that everything needs to be pretty close to square/vertical/perpendicular with very little room for deviation and this is a bit of a pain. I'm not particularly mechanically minded so I may not be able to visualize the consequences of the changes I'm proposing very well butby reece.arnott - Mechanics
I'm probably the only one working in Dunedin working on a Reprap in any big way. I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of next month as I'll be giving a presentation as part of the Information Science/Computer Science Friday seminar series at Uni, probably at the start of August. My machine is probably around 10 hours away from printing stuff and 20-30hrs of calibration from printing parts.by reece.arnott - New Zealand RepRap User Group
I haven't done it myself but you could try the instructions here: The best place to look is: I think you should be able to use with minimal changes. I'm not sure how big a keydrive you'll need but it will be at least 2GB possibly even 8GB.by reece.arnott - RepRap Host
Anybody figure this one out? I couldn't replicate the problem at the time but now with a different computer (Dell GX260) installed using the LiveDVD 0.6 I've got the same issue trying to run the 0.9 host. I'll try a different computer in the next couple of days and see if it is a specific hardware issue (as I suspect).by reece.arnott - RepRap Host
Simple answer is that it will work on a Mac. Longer answer is that the instructions for doing so are here: but is apparently still being written. Both the reprap controlling host software and the 3d design tool Art of Illusion are written in Java so are cross platform, you just need to install the supporting software.by reece.arnott - RepRap Host
As for other software, if all you're wanting to do is print other peoples designs you just need the supporting software for the reprap host (see ) i.e. * Java Development Kit (JDK) * Java3D * The j3d.org 3D utility library * RXTX Serial Library If you're wanting to design your own parts to be printed out you'll need a 3D CAD program that supports exporting files as .stl, Art of Iby reece.arnott - General

The only thing I can think of is that you're double clicking on the trunk rather than clicking on the arrow at the left to get a list of the subfolders (which will then want you to accept a certificate). The error message is basically saying that this folder doesn't exist and yet it obviously does so the only other thing is if you have a network issue eg. a proxy server in the way. I had a look at making an EMC2 based LiveCD and it looks like it would just be easier to use the script they have on their website (http://www.linuxcnc.org/hardy/emc2-install.sh) to add it into the next version of the LiveDVD. If I get time this weekend I'll try and hunt down the issue with the 0.9 host and add that in. And if someone can figure out the meshlab issues I'll add that as well. Thby reece.arnott - RepRap Host

Good timing. If you go to you will see that Zach (US) has just announced the full electronics kit (the link to buy it seems to be broken however). And then you can get the rest of the reprap from Ian (UK) Then the only thing you should need are a few wires. Zach, Ian, am I correct?by reece.arnott - Wanted
The latest host is a little different to its forebears in that the reprap-host shell script is a little more complicated in that it has a couple of paths coded into it. If you're running it from the LiveDVD its easiest if you copy the entire zipfile contents and just leave the old version as is and forget about trying to upgrade it. At first glance it should be simple to do. 1. Unzip to a foldby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
No. It has Eclipse set up to connect to the Reprap repository so you can get the latest version of any of the software and compile it yourself. I understand that for the Ardunio firmware you can just take the files you need; the package release script just bundles all the files into a zip file. The current Ardunio 1.3 firmware was packaged and put up on sourceforge 2 days after I finished.by reece.arnott - RepRap Host

I had a conversation with one of the local gurus at the local LUG meeting a couple of days ago and he mentioned that Java 6 has a number of issues at present and that Java 5 should be used wherever possible. Sorry, this isn't one I've seen before. From the FAQ at it would appear "The most likely cause is when the application attempts to invoke a method on an object that it believes has been instantiated, but that is, in fact, null." so from your first post this would point to a software issue with the current post 0.8.3 SVN version. I should be ready to begin work on the next version of the LiveCD this weekend. At this point it will be based on the Kubuntu 8.04 LiveCD released last week. The question is, of course, what software should it contain? I haven't kept up with all the advances in the various little bits and pieces of software (eg. all the Gcode stuff) as well as I should so I'm hoping y'all will help me out.
