My father in law has some UHMW strip that he will give me and suggested it could be used in place of the teflon. Does anybody know of a reason why it wouldn't work? My understanding is that UHMW is more abrasive resistant but less slippery, and more temprature sensitive.by johnnyz - Mechanics
Hey Viktor, thanks for that forum thread... great discussion. Now I understand the purpose of the tubing better. I thought it was a matter of convenience and being easy to implement. I wonder how the tubing will hold up over time under the kinds of stress it will be under. Does it make sense to lubricate the screw or coupling nut somehow?by johnnyz - Mechanics
Hey Zach, That makes sense about the flags. How are you doing them? I don't think I've seen a photo with them unless I'm missing something. I'm not too worried about the printouts I have access to a number of printers so I'm sure one will be able to print closer to the edges of the screen. I thought I would point it out as it will be an issue with some people. btw I love how active and theby johnnyz - Mechanics
I was poking around for various solutions to coupling the motor to threaded rod and found this solution which looked promising... thought I'd pass it along.by johnnyz - Mechanics
I was wondering what, if any, the purpose of the notches in the acrylic stages are? Well... I am slowly accumulating the various bits and pieces I need to make the seedling. I still have a few nuts and bolts to get. I just picked up a couple 1/4" acrylic end cuts from a local plastics shop for what seemed like a reasonable price. Now I have to figure out the best way to cut/shape acrylicby johnnyz - Mechanics
I noticed that the parts list for the McWire bot shows 1" nuts, washers and machine screws, however if I select the parts in the part list generator it goes to a 1/2"-13 nut, 1/2" washer and 1/2" machine screw. The 1/2" parts make more sense to me and are much easier to come by.... Does anybody know which is correct/better? 1" seems quite large. should the parts list be updated to reflect 1/2"by johnnyz - Mechanics
Hi, Well after reading about the reprap project and seeing the Make project for the McWire type design I decided to dive in and see how far I could get. This is all pretty new for me but sounds like a blast. I'm just starting... purchased the pipe and connectors from Home Depot. I have a couple questions concerning the sizing of the pipe. Particularly, with the 1.2 instructions showing usby johnnyz - Mechanics
