My inclination would be to turn down the end of the rod and use a 5 x 5 coupling.by Kingshouse - Mechanics
Thanks for the excellent response. That is exactly what I needed.by Kingshouse - Mechanics
I have begun an i3 build. I have been reading an awful lot, but probably not enough. I am planning to use 2 Z axis leadscews and use a pulley/belt configuration with a single nema23 stepper. In selecting rod thread pitch and pulley diameter is there an optimum number of steps per mm I should be shooting for? If it matters, the goal of the machine is to be able to do small, detailed prints.by Kingshouse - Mechanics
Started building an i3 rework with aluminum frame. I am going to modify it for a single Z axis motor, probably belt driven from the top. I have built and worked on many cnc milling machines, lathes, machining centers, and turning centers. My experience tells me to counterweight the Z axis when using a single small stepper. Any thoughts on this or recommendations on Z drive/pulley systems? Onby Kingshouse - Cleveland Ohio - RepRap Usergroup
