Ouch! $28 + shipping for a drive shaft with a 2mm keyway.. that seems like a very small key. Is it really 2mm? I've also started a similar setup... really like the design @the_digital_dentist Z movement seems to be my biggest problem. ampapa,by ampapa - CoreXY Machines
Thanks for clearing that up math isn't my strongest subject I missed the fractional portion. If I'm correct a 32 tooth pulley with the 3mm belt will yield 1000 steps and 40 tooth pulley will yield 800 steps are there any advantages of one pulley over the other? ampapa,by ampapa - CoreXY Machines
So wouldn't the formula be different if we have to divide? (200 steps/ 1 motor rev) x (16 usteps/step) x (30 motor revs/1 pulley rev) / ((1 pulley rev/36 pulley teeth) x (1 pulley tooth/3mm)) = 888.888888... usteps/mm ... and what about the "whole" steps. I think you were trying to achieve whole steps ultimately... Does that add to the accuracy of the print? I guess I'm trying to figure outby ampapa - CoreXY Machines
Obvious question for me is why the need for whole-step values does that add to accuracy? QuoteTDD (200 steps/ 1 motor rev) x (16 usteps/step) x (30 motor revs/1 pulley rev) x (1 pulley rev/36 pulley teeth) x (1 pulley tooth/3mm) = 888.888888... usteps/mm How does this math work? I'm obviously missing something here.... 200*16*30*1*1 ampapa,by ampapa - CoreXY Machines
Z wobble..?? I thought it was banding. My Z axis is just plain sad... I thought I had improved it.. I'm currently gathering parts for a rebuild something similar to yours DD. I think the belt drive on my XY axis works considerably better than my Z axis with 8mm ball screw and cheap linear bearings. ampapa,by ampapa - Slic3r
Thanks for the pics.. Looks like random is not exactly better than aligned... I have some banding, I think, to take care of first. Gotta go figure that out... Hopefully Slic3r will add the feature for placing the seams. I may take a look at Cura. Thanks. ampapa,by ampapa - Slic3r
Do seams really disappear or do they just become less noticeable... I also assume that you may get better results with a direct vs bowden extruder. I'll do some more research into the wiping and retraction settings. I'm unfamiliar with "wiping while retracting" how does this work? So is there a way to dictate where the seam(s) will be placed? For some parts it would be great if it generated onby ampapa - Slic3r
Cross posting question since I think it fits better here... In Slice3r there are 3 options for seams Random, Nearest and Aligned. 1- Nearest method, nearest to what? 2- Aligned, some of the seams are aligned but not all of them. In some of my prints the seams are inline for half the model then aligned somewhere else in the half of the model, what gives? Can I dictate where the seam is going toby ampapa - Slic3r

I've also noticed the slow down, but working in the IT industry I know there are behind the scenes activities that take place that people don't see. There are a lot of good hard working people making this forum happen and they often go un-thanked, personally I think they should be thanked. I've been making some progress when printing items but I'm still noticing that I am getting artifacts when the print head moves, some straight lines and then some blobs. What controls these types of items in the software is it mostly controlled by lift Z, length of retraction, retract on layer change, etc.? Mark, Can I ask where you picked up your worm gear? Quotethe_digital_dentist Z axis redesign recap: The Z axis started with a NEMA-23 motor directly driving the Z axis motion, but then the problem of bed-drop became very apparent, so I replaced the direct drive motor with a 30:1 Rino worm gear reducer this way: Though it looks symmetrical, the path to the motor from each of the belt clampsby ampapa - CoreXY Machines
Temps are 195 first layer and 183 for the remaining layers. The cube was printed with a 25% infill. Ampapa,by ampapa - Printing
As I continue to print more objects I'm finding that a lot of the issues I'm dealing with are related to stringing and surfaces not being flat to build upon. It seems as though the nozzle is dragging across the print causing bumps and ridges, leaving the layer not flat to print the next layer. Is that a function of the printer or the printing of the filament?by ampapa - Printing
This is being printed on a CoreXY machine... so I can't compare. Thanks,by ampapa - Printing
Those look good... It seems like I actually hear something when it gets to the corner but I'm still new to the game. Here is a video clip I took, right around the 8 and 10 second mark you can hear a click I think. Print click What I find so odd is that the only place it creates a problem is when it prints the height of the letters.. why at only those layers? I feel like I'm getting real close but still missing something obvious. This print last night gave me problems either at the layers below/above the letters or vice versa, possibly dues to speed or jerk or??? ampapa,by ampapa - Printing
Thanks for confirming. A follow up question... assuming that my steps were correct on my extruder as originally calculated Quoteampapa e_steps_per_mm = (200*16) / (7.19*3.14159) = 3,200/22.5880321 = 141.66 What would control over extrusion in Slic3r, the extrusion multiplier, other settings? The extrusion multiplier seems to be required... ampapa,by ampapa - Printing
Thanks dc42. I'll make a better attempt at adjusting the extruder. Am I correct in the assumption of over extrusion above? ampapa,by ampapa - Printing
I've been working on trying to get a better print and I think I've come across the actual problem, over extrusion. I was using the stacked Cube as suggested by Triffids guide and then adjusting as the print was going in the DuetWifi interface. This picture is with the following in my config.g file (M92 X100 Y100 Z1600 E145.52) I think this picture is definitely over extruding, am I correct? Thby ampapa - Printing
o_lamp, what part of the model is the trace so I can identify what over extrusion looks like? Quoteo_lamp That's why I set gap fill speed to "0" to disable it completely. I'll also try to turn this setting off. Should I be using Cura or another slicer program possibly Slic3r is not best suited for us beginners? ampapa,by ampapa - Printing
Thanks I'll give those settings a shot and see what happens. The material is form Hatchbox - PLA... recently opened. 1st layer is printed at 205 and other 195. ampapa,by ampapa - Printing
Thanks for the input . I'll try adding a brim for sure. I'm printing PLA and here are the settings in Slic3r. Can over/under extrusion also be a part of the problem I have a 1 in the extrusion multiplier? ampapa,by ampapa - Printing
Do I have the sensitivity set too high when the piezo triggers as the axis is moving while printing? ampapa,by ampapa - General
Thanks, you're correct.. edited.by ampapa - Printing
I've been trying to print some more complex items today and I seem to be having problems I can't figure out and I'm uncertain what the cause(s) might be. The 1st layer seems to be spot on as you can see by this single layer print I did, I would consider this a successful print. Then I tried something more complex and again the first layer looks good but then its utter failure. Anyone have idby ampapa - Printing
Thanks David, that clears up a few things. After performing a Mesh Bed leveling, when powering off and then starting up again will the 3D printer automatically read the file that was saved? Is there any needed process/procedure that needs to run the next time the machine is started or just home it and go? ampapa,by ampapa - General
DuetWifi v1.19 I found the wiki but wasn't sure about M208 and G92 commands and was looking for some practical experience. Running a G30 and the probe is working fine but I'm a little confused on how its updating its position to -.1... I was assuming it would be 0. Does it get that information from the config.g file? My config.g has the following.. M558 (P1/P5) I1 R0.4 F300 X0 Y0 Z0 G31 X0 Yby ampapa - General
Looking for a little guidance in mesh bed leveling since this is my first attempt at this. I'm using a Precision Piezo so I think I need a pause before each probing process but I'm uncertain.. Using some code I found I assume this should be ran each time before a print so this should go in my starting code, does this look correct?
