Problem wasn't Marlin. Problem was latest pronterface doesn't show returned message on M114 and M117. Pronsole does. Will try to find earlier pronterface.

Has anyone done a modification to the 5D motherboard code to output step and direction on the I2C pins instead of H-bridge signals so I could use an external step direction driver to run the extruder?
