NEVER disable the Z axis motors during a print

Are you using a ramps setup for the motion?
WITH THE PRINTER OFF check that there are 3 jumpers under the driver chip for 1/16 microsteping.

DO NOT use .4mm layers with a .4mm hot end.
Id go no more than .3mm layers with that hot end.
Most run .2mm with a .4mm hot end.

If thats 100% then you have some massive extruder calibration issues.

Fill should be at 100%.
Those all look no where close to 100%

Thanks for supporting the bearings on both sides of the shaft. I see too many designs with only one anchor point.

I also run Esun PLA+ with nothing but good things to say about it.

Check that your pulleys on the motor have the set screws tight and they are not slipping.

People often say that running steppers 1:1 with ball screws is real slow.
You might need to run a gear set or pulley/belt setup to get you a 5:1 to speed it up to where you want it.

Nope. not that I know of. You just have to manually dial the settings in for your printer and go from there.

Id like to see a ball screw core XY setup.
shouldn't be too hard to setup honestly. If you keep the speed ideals a little lower ~40mm/sec then a think you might be able to hit that will ball screws.

They do use wider belts.
We get slight ringing with our uPrint SE plus at work but its not that bad.

Does the motor driver look like this?
A4988 Driver
This is the most common driver.
Can you take a picture of the control board?

Have you calibrate the extruder steps per mm?
Also have you calibrated the extruder motor driver current?
Direct drive extruders like that seem to skip steps a lot. It will sound like clicking.

Rails are going to be better id think. Quiet to boot as well.

True, we have a uPrint SE plus at work that I use and the spools are $205 per but they work flawlessly.

Not sure honestly. My software at work for cnc lasers and plasmas compensates for inner holes if I want easy enough...

Change the hole size and print again.
Its a known issue that holes are always undersized

If everything is squared and still hits just file that edge off to make it work.
I had to do the same thing to my kit.

Id change to a 32bit controller before I even thought about "upgrading" my Ramps.

Ive been using Cura on my i3 printer for over 2 years. Works great.

Agreed. I print a small tower next to my print to increase the print time per layer. OR just print more than once piece at a time.

Got the motors on last night and got the A4988 drivers set at .42v and the motors were stone cold! Sound is reduced by a hair but not much.

I understand saving a buck but the business end of your machine is not something to skimp on.
Personally I have a V5 from E3D and its been nothing but a wonderful piece!

I use Cura to slice STL files then put my code onto an SD card and run that right from the printer.
I can connect to the PC through Pronterface if I need to but I haven't in awhile.

New motors should be in today or tomorrow. I will update with how it goes on and how hot the motors are after a tuning.

Im in the same boat. I have a simple i3 and the noise is terrible but it prints fine.
Id love a Smoothieboard or Duet but the cost is a bit high for such a simple printer. Im swapping out my motors hoping to quiet it down but I doubt it will do much without going higher than x16 microsteps.

That would make for a real nice cnc router table. bit small on the cutting table size but nice and beefy.

Awesome, I had a friend that owed me a favor so he will be getting those for me.
Maybe I can work something out with my friend and get a duet or something. Who knows.
