Hi,
I'm trying to build a Metal 3D printer based on an enlarged version of the Rostock see: StrongPrint
For the initial trials I have been using a small python script to generate simple shapes in GCode. I'm now at a point where I would like to try more complex shapes and use a proper slicer.
I managed to do nearely everything I need from the custom GCode except two things:
- There are still

Thanks for your interest A2,
Well now the auto ignition & Z level works this is a huge gain of time as before it required 10 mins set-up to be able to ignite it. But there is still two important things to do before doing a print:
- Switching the board to 24V & control solenoid valves to automate the Argon flow
- The system guiding the wire is not precise enough to make fine welds

Ok the M3 command is now working fine including the Z calibration.
Here is the new version of the lift_ignition() method in Marlin_main.cpp that calibrate the Z position at the ignition point.
#ifdef METAL
float lift_ignition() {
#if defined(TEMP_0_PIN) && TEMP_0_PIN > -1
float startPos = METAL_STROKE_Z_START;
float lightLevel = -1;
float Z_Ignit = -1;

Ok, thanks, I will change the resistor when passing to 24V
I have implemented the M3 command to ignite the arc, it is working perfectely except for one detail that needs to be sorted where I would have a question: Once the point touch the workpiece to initiate the arc this defines the 0 for Z. How to define this Z position as my new Zero ? I think I could use "current_position = 0.0;" but I do

Thanks for your reply,
For the moment I use a Gen7 1.4.1 with the modified marlin from Johann as it is a delta printer.
I think I will use the following set-up:
- Argon solenoid valve command -> Bed heater
- Photo resistor -> extruder 0 thermocouple
The Gen7 is powered by an ATX power supply but the solid valve requires 24V, since the Gen7 has dedicated power line to the MOSFETs

Hi, I'm trying to develop a metal 3D printer based on the Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding process you can find details there: StrongPrint.
To cut a long story short after some semi manual experimentation I arrived to the conclusion that I need to modify some features of the firmware:
- Control a solenoid valve
- Add measurement of the current or at least the presence of the Arc
- Perform

Firmware for rostock are already available, the one I use is the modified Marlin from Johann Rocholl available on GitHub . the Repetier firmware handles as well delta printers.
Cheers

Yes you can use any type of Welding connector for the TIG, it is just that the 10/25 is the most common.
Concerning the RAMPS-FD one need to be carefull as welding generates a lot of electro-magnetic pollution. I will try it because more computational power is always good but being 3.3V I expect difficulties there. Looking at the alternatives it is limited as:
- UDOO is more a befed-up version

General
In fact on OSX there is apparently no .arduino
But with more time available I could do some tests:
Did a clean install of arduino1.0.5
- gen7 set-up test was ok
- repetier failed to compile
- marlin failed to compile
Did the same with arduino1.0.4
- gen7 set-up test was ok
- repetier ok
- marlin ok
So apparently it works with v1.0.4 but not with v1.0.5
Has anybody got the same issue wi

Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hi,
My install was working fairly well & I could compile the Marlin firmware with out issues, I have not touched the firmware for 2 weeks and now it dose not work anymore sending errors as follow: "LiquidCrystalRus.cpp:9:23: error: Arduino.h: No such file or directory" and I do not understand what I have done wrong.
I do not remember touching any config, The only thing I did was to install

So if I see noting in the log This means Memory level is ok ?

Repetier
Thanks I tried the debug, My question might sound silly but where should I see the memory value displayed ? because it dose not seem to be displayed in the log of Repetier-Host.
Concerning the end stops I have 3 micro-switches on the max of each axes that return 5V when free & 0V when activated by a contact.
Here is the end stops set-up of the configuration.h:

Thnak you Repiter for the advice it seems to partially work, by reducing the memory requirements I managed to have the board connect to Repetier-Host:
- I'm able to control the extruder temperature even though I had to change pins.h for the following in the Gen7 1.4.1 as I had to plug the extruder temp on the bed to have a measurement.
#define TEMP_0_PIN 1 // was originally 0

- Conductivitée thermique 0.11-0.13 W/m-K @ temp Ambiente 0.195W/m-K #190°C

Thanks Traumflug,
I reposted the question there.
By the way I sucessfully installed the Johann's modified Marlin but had some Brown out reset issues as with the Reptier-Firmware. I have found a temporary fix on this forum . At the end of the post it is mentioned that changing the L1 self from 100 to 10uH seems to solve the issue on the Gen7 1.4.1. I hope it will work as well for Repetier.

Dear all,
This a bit a newbee question, I am building a Rostock like delta printer controlled by Gen7 1.4.1 (Atmega 644 @20Mhz I expected the little overclock of the gen7 could be beneficial on a delta where controller speed is an issue)
Since the Repetier Firmware (V0.82.2) which seems the most advanced for delta printers I tried to install it. I started to set the configuration.h and uploaded
