relevant code is in ultralcd.cpp
for literal starters (haha), try Configuration.h as per:
$ grep SPLASH *
Configuration.h:#define STRING_SPLASH_LINE1 SHORT_BUILD_VERSION // will be shown during boot in line 1
Configuration.h:#define STRING_SPLASH_LINE2 WEBSITE_URL // will be shown during boot in line 2

It may be the filament tending to wish to adhere to its' sticky self? maybe, try the same print with a different material.
Or, perhaps, your Configuration.h, DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT, 4th of the quad, value for extruder - is incorrect, extruder is overzealous? You can tweak that value in marlin's Control -> Motion -> Esteps/mm (@ the bottom)

This is great, thank you!
I use auto0.g to autostart the hotbed & extruder-- comes in handy while tweaking around with the firmware, reboots were frigid, brrr.
Now I do not have to poke around thru marlin ui after rebuilds, the hotties automatically return to hotness !!
yippee for improved shake rattle and roll
