Your problem most likely lies with the idlers on your X-Axis, the higher of the two pulleys. The plastic mount doesn't look sturdy enough to prevent flex under force/tension, and since you have variations in force being applied while changing belt direction that is what causes your flat spots. I experienced a similar issue when I first built my custom Core-XY.

Can you take photos of how your motors and idler pulleys are mounted?
When I built my custom Core-XY, I had the belts parallel and messed with tension and got essentially the same kind of results as you. I found my idler pulley mounts allowed for some flex under even light tension which caused circles to be out of round at the points where the belts would change direction while printing.

I agree with Stephen6309. Your Z axis is constrained at both ends, see if removing the top piece improves the print quality.

In my experience, a single linear bearing on each z-guide was not sufficient to prevent z-wobble. I found if I preloaded the bearing to eliminate any play in the x-y worked, but I did not find that to be ideal. I added a second bearing to each guide and the problems went away.

I've read in many many places that a Creality Ender 3 is a solid DIY kit for entry-level printing. Plus is has a pretty large community on Facebook, so community support should be there.
Considering the expense, it may not be bad as a starter, particularly if you aren't sure you want to really get into the hobby full-swing (it CAN get expensive). However the advice above is not wrong either.

You know, I currently have my filament open-air in my basement. I was keeping it in sealed freezer bags with a color-changing dessicant and my dessicant was indicating I had some moisture.
Out of convenince and curiosity, I opened one bag and placed it about six inches away from a radiant space heater I have down there right now and sure enough after 24 hours the dessicant's color changed indic

Outside of this website Klipper actually has a fairly substantial user base. I was quite shocked to see how often it is recommended outside of these forums. There is a somewhat active IRC channel, the discussions on gitHub are active and helpful and the primary developer of the firmware is incredibly responsive.

Hmmm.... I suppose a gimbaled or flying extruder could be adapted. I'm not sure I would prefer that very over a remote direct-drive though. But the existing remote direct drive set ups are more expensive options and may not be viable options for many.

There are pros/cons to both direct drive and bowden drive extruders (with the proper setup both configurations can yield good results). I tend to lean more towards remotely driven or bowden setups. I'm getting ready to prototype my own remote-direct drive extruder concept using a flexible drive shaft.

A well made flying extruder is probably 'best of both worlds'
A short Bowden tube won't cause oozing and the weight of the extrudermotor is supported by the gimbal.
You only risk resonance between gimbal and hotend/effector at certain speeds, but you can avoid it with propper slicer settings.
( The effect shows up mainly during infill, so it might be not critical )
