Hi guys, I'm thinking about upgrading my Prusa i3 to a dual nozzle set up like this one: The hardware is not a problem but I'm confused about the software chain. First of all, do I have to modify the Marlin firmware in order to recognize the second extruder? The only thing I see that could be relevant is " // Offset of the extruders (uncomment if using more than one and relying on firmware toby myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
Both the 8" and Acrylic are good printers that produce quality parts, and both Collin and Han provide excellent support. I have a Prusa i3 Acrylic and I haven't cracked anything so far. The packaging was excellent and DHL handled the kit with great care. If that still concerns you why don't you ask Han to see if they can switch the acrylic panel to wood for you? Maybe you can even get a discountby myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
Good job Zoroeye, your so farbuild is really fast for a beginner! There are a few things I think you can find useful: 1. from your picture I think your aluminum alloy pulley is too close to the motor. Try reverse it to leave some spacing, otherwise it will constantly grind against your motor's surface. 2. don't worry about the small bearing. I also have 623 bearings in Y axis and haven't had aby myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
Since the x and y end stoppers are on the right and front (corresponding to max instead of min); however, when I do auto home in Cura, the x carriage and bed are moving to the left and back. Is the autohome direction controlled in the firmware or Cura? Thanks guys I really appreciate any feedback.by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
The cheapest two places I can find complete Prusa i3 kits are www.diytechshop.com and www.3dprinterczar. Sourcing the parts can be very time consuming and you might run into compatibility issues.by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
there are a few things that could cause this (which unfortunately all happened to me) 1. your pololu current is not tuned properly, the stepper motor didn't have the power to move the print head. This happend to the upper layers but not the first one because it prints much slower on the 1st ans second layer in Marlin, I think Sprinter probably does the same 2. you smooth rod is not smooth enby myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
Thanks a lot stonedcoldskier, now I get a rough idea of what's lying before me. I think I'm going to stick with the basic design of TAZ and only do the "necessary" changes, like the slanted x belt, and stronger extrusions for the base. I'll keep you updated on my progress Quotestonedcoldskier I self-sourced and built a Taz clone this fall and printed all of the parts on a Prusa Mendel V2 that Iby myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
I checked the GUS design and one thing that concerns me is the printed gears. I think the backlash and roughness of the printed surface might impact the print quality, what do you guys think?by myohmy11 - Delta Machines
Hi Rick i'm thinking about building a mini rostock. Why did you say this is not the best choice for most people? the complexity?by myohmy11 - Delta Machines
I like aluminum extrusions because it looks pretty steady. My MM2 using aluminum pieces is very heavy and i dont see a lot of vibrations when printing fast.by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
I might be wrong but I thought to be a RepRap the printer needs to be able to replicate parts of itself? TAZ should be considered a RepStrap instead maybe?by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
loose connection, high feed rate, inappropriate pololu current could all contribute to thisby myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
Another question: has anyone used the budaschnozzle before? How does it compare to a Prusa nozzle or a magma?by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
The TAZ is not strictly speaking a RepRap, but it has similar mechanical structure as the Prusa i3. It looks very sturdy with aluminum extrusions and nicely organized electronics, but the price is a killer. I dont have $2000 to invest on a single printer and I'm thinking about sourcing parts and build one myself. I have a Prusa i3 from 3dpritnerczars.com so I can print the plastics myself. the czar emailed me an instruction and he said they are posting it on reprap wiki soon. I'm sure if you email them they are happy to give it to you, but just in case, pm me and i'll send you my copy. I actually didn't have missing parts with my kit, I emailed them just before after the purchase to ask them include everything and double check, and I'm glad that I didn't have to spend time lookingby myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
Hi JohnSL I completely understand how you feel. My school had a Makerbot Replicator and I was amazed by the details it could print (perfectly straight edge, smooth surface with no warps, etc.) I purchased the MM2 from Maker Tools Works (very supportive team on the IRC channel) back in July because of its boasted printing speed (300mm) and linear rail system (well after my Prusa i3 I realized precby myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
no problem nous defions, I'm glad it helps! Welcome to the movement!by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
I had the similar problem and later found out I had the power supply configured wrong. It had a switch to chagne between 110V and 240V output. This is pretty standard for all 12V power supply. Give it a try.by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
I've been printing with my Prusa i3 for a while and it works fine most of the time. The only maintenance I do is to lubricate the rods and retighten the xy-z connection about once a week. What exactly are the problems you run into?by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
this could solve the least favorable part about 3d printing! I remember seeing Up!2 having a similar system.by myohmy11 - General Mendel Topics
I have a Prusa i3 from www.3dprinterczar.com and a MendelMax 2.0 from www.makertoolworks.com . Sorry they are not exactly the models you have in mind, but they are similiar in many ways. I've had successful prints from both and here's what I think: 1. Build Difficulty Prusa i3 is definitely a winner for this. I probably spent around 3 - 4 hours building 3D Printer Czar's model. is there an option in pronterface for tri color printing? I've always printed with one head and maybe dual extrusion will be my next adventure.by myohmy11 - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
