Hey, You seem pretty disappointed in your purchase. I think it's probably worth bearing in mind that a makerbot costs substantially more than an i3, so you can see why there might be some little bugs to work out. As others have suggested, it sounds like the pololu's are turned too low, you can easily increase the voltage by adjusting the trimpot until the motor will turn. In regards to the exby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Hey, I would recommend taking a look at the Printrbot or the RepRap Wallace, they have a small part count and a relatively high build area compared to the machine's size. The build area is about 150mm x 150mm x 150mm. If you're interested, I could print out some parts for you? Take a look at these: Jordanby JHart96 - Wanted
Hello, I have a Mendel i2 which is running superbly. I have it printing very good quality and it's very stable. If anybody wants anything printing, I'm based in the Liverpool area but willing to ship to the UK for a cost of £3. Looking forward to enquiries. Jordanby JHart96 - Job Shop: I make stuff!
Hey Again, Have you tried using a different slicer? What were the results? Jordanby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Wow that's quite a catastrophic meltdown. Which hotend were you using? Thankfully my melt down wasn't quite as bad, I managed to restore the holder the working order, although the thread had melted pretty badly. How long was it melting for? Was it supervised at the time or was it doing a print on it's own? I was lucky that I was with the printer at the time and I caught it before it was too lateby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Hey, The leads of the thermistor weren't shorting to the best of my knowledge, I was getting a reading of between 50 - 90 degrees, the PID is set up on my board which is what really annoyed me. As I was heating the machine from cold, it wasn't as if it suddenly dropped from a high temperature to a low. One thing that I did feel was a bit odd though, was that I actually turned off both heaters wby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
So I decided to keep you up to date on what's new with my RepRap and the issue's I've ran into. I bought some new filament from eBay (as always). It works much better than the other filament and seems to be bleached very white. I find it is softer, which caused me to loosen the tension on the idler on my extruder. The previous filament wouldn't grip unless it was very tight, whereas this one gotby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Hey, Depending on how the hand extruded filament goes, if you don't have any issues with it, try extruding 5mm of filament at a time with the control panel, if it still performs flawlessly after a decent amount of extrusion, you can narrow the problem down to the gcode. It's possible you're trying to extrude too fast. Have you configured the extruder stepper in the firmware properly? Jordanby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Hi, The Prusa i1 and i2 are very different from the Prusa i3. If you really want an i3, I'd suggest that you finish the original project and print off parts for the i3, then you should be able to cannibalise the original for the i3, just check all of the threaded rod will fit okay. However, a well tuned i1 or i2 should be able to perform just as well as a prusa i3, a lot of people complain aboby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Sorry for the late reply. If the stepper library is working for your system then that is great, and my suggestion probably won't fix it I've taken a look at your code and there are a couple of things I would try but I don't know if you've already tried them. If you have skype or something I'd be quite happy to message about it in real time. I used to have the sketch files for a conversion I mby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
That IR proximity sensor sounds very good indeed, I wonder why this isn't more common? A cheaper alternative may be to use one of those cheapie hc-sr04 ultrasonic modules. I've played about with them in the past and they seem to work quite well. Maybe I'll give it a go in the future! Jordanby JHart96 - Developers
Hey I took a look at the website and that looks like a really nice machine you have, well done! I can't speak for the hot end but regarding the bed levelling, if you haven't already, it's probably a good idea to have a good read through this: If the motors were going the wrong way, this is all changeable in the firmware. I'm using Marlin at the moment which is working quite well, and the optiby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Hey, I don't know if you're still stuck on this problem and I haven't seen your PCB design or your code but I originally used the L298 as well. The stepper library in arduino is for stepper motors that are being directly driven from the arduino by transistors, whereas the L298 simply has the ability to reverse the polarity over two coils. There's a good chance that this might be the issue. To aby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
That's awesome news! Let us know how the build goes and what you think of the i3 I've never heard of a bed cooling fan before, what does that help with? Jordanby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Ahh okay, thankfully there shouldn't be any safety issues thanks to my power supply being right at it's limit when heating the bed, the hottest it gets is 105 ish no matter how long I leave the relay on. Nonetheless though, I'm definitely going to replace it with some kapton tape. How many wires are attached to your heated bed? I use a single pair and find that they get slightly warm but not tooby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Hey, Thanks for your reply. It's interesting to see what other people's opinions are on things! I see your point on the floating z axis, perhaps I've managed to escape that issue though using the smooth 8mm bar on the bottom, it takes the weight off the stepper motor, but allows the threaded rod some movement at the same time. Not a permanent solution though :/ Thanks for pointing out that typby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Hello, I have a sturdy Prusa i2 and am willing to print off parts for the Prusa i2, i3 and Wallace for anyone who is interested. The cost is 24.99 for a full set of printed parts and the reassurance that if any of them break, I'm quite happy to send out a new piece free of charge. All parts are printed at 200 micron resolution from 1.75mm ABS. I'm willing to print from any colour but some colouby JHart96 - For Sale
Hey, I'm new to the whole 3D printer thing myself, but I recently assembled a Prusa Mendel i2 which cost in total £220 which I believe is about $360. I personally think that the i2 seems like a great way to go (hence why I chose it). In terms of pros, it is a true RepRap in every sense, you can print all of the important bits and all you'll need is some M8 threaded bar, which is incredibly cheaby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
Hello Everyone, My name is Jordan and I'm a 17 year old student in the UK. Over the past Christmas holidays I put together my first RepRap. It took me a year to source the materials as I wanted to spread the cost a bit. I decided to start this thread to share my own experiences in putting together a Prusa Mendel i2 and the modifications I have made myself to it, in the hope that others can learnby JHart96 - General Mendel Topics
