I did the same as dazed Was so eager to get the thing printing by that stage (READ LAZY). Once the frame was assembled and the nuts finger tight, I just used a cheapo square ruler and my eyes to straighten out the assembly. I did pay a bit more attention to getting the print bed level though (using a spirit level).by brad - General Mendel Topics
Lambert advised me to use Repsnapper host software with the monolithic electronics. So far its working great. You need to make sure you have the correct firmware for the monolithic board. Send me a PM if you need it. Once I loaded this firmware all 4 stepper motors were enabled as well as the heater controller.by brad - General Mendel Topics
I've progressed quite a lot since I posted that message. It turns out the monolithic board already had the correct firmware and I shouldn't have overwritten it in the first place. Repsnapper host software talks to the monolithic board right out of the box. Once I re-flashed the board with the right firmware everything started working. The extruder which ships with the LC kit works great. Its a Wby brad - General Mendel Topics
How about using stockings (panty hose)? We've all heard of using them in a pinch if you break your car's fan belt and don't have a car parts shop nearby. I've used this once before when my fan belt broke. It was good enough to drive 100km to the next town to get the belt replaced. Surely this will work as a replacement for the RepRap belts?by brad - General Mendel Topics
How do you save it? I can change this setting in the Gcode tab in Repsnapper but saving it simply prompts for a file name and location to save it to. Is there a way you can set this as the default settings which get loaded automatically?by brad - RepSnapper
In the last few weeks I've had moments of glory where my LC Mendel starts printing. Sadly these have been short lived as my hot end keeps failing on me. I must have rebuilt it more than a dozen times now, each time with slight improvements. I think its improving with each rebuild as I tweak the design. Hopefully soon I will have it running reliably enough to finish a print.by brad - General Mendel Topics
I've been building my Mendel for the last 2 weeks, and everything else is working pretty well, except for the heated tip. I'm having exactly the same problem with it repeatedly getting pushed out. The original design was the Oak insulator type from Techzone, but I've now switched to the PTFE type and I just can't get it to stay in there. Last night I tried fastening a hose clamp around the lowerby brad - General

I'm from Port Elizabeth, South Africa My RepRap is busy taking shape and has printed its first usable parts already. Although I still have a way to go in terms of refining and tweaking the settings. Check out my blog over here:by brad - South Africa, Johannesburg RUG
Well my RepRap build is coming on nicely. This weekend I printed my first usable part - I had to replace the small gear on my extruder as it was slipping on the motor shaft. It was a race against time to get a replacement one printed before the original stopped working altogether. The one which I got with my kit was the original type (from Wade's extruder) made out of PLA and had no hole for aby brad - South Africa, Cape Town RepRap User Group
Yep thats the one - the monolithic board. I managed to get it working... I just needed to update the firmware. I chose the Reprap Motherboard firmware from inside ReplicatorG software and uploaded it to the board. Now the X, Y & Z axes are working. I can drive them from the ReplicatorG control panel. I taped a pen onto the extruder carriage and drew some blocks on a piece of paper which I sby brad - General Mendel Topics
I received my Techzone lasercut Mendel kit yesterday and surprised myself with the progress I managed to achieve on the mechanical assembly. Right now I have the whole thing assembled and all axes are able to move. Urban, you can take a look at my build photos here http://picasaweb.google.com/109946881844222138122/RepRapMendel1BuildProcess?feat=directlink, they may be of assistance to you. I like to hear stories like this. Camiel I wish you all the best with your business. I placed an order with Botmill for a complete unassembled laser cut Mendel over a month ago. My order status changed to "dispatched" within 2 days and I was given a USPS tracking number. Well to date that tracking number still doesn't show up on their online tracking, although I have been promised numerous timesby brad - General
Hi Vimaan Join the club. I'm in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and about a month ago I took the plunge and ordered a RepRap Mendel kit from botmill.com I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival. It will be great to share thoughts and experiences as the SA RepRap community is still so tiny. You can email me on brad(at)print3d.co.zaby brad - General
Found this post by Kimberly from Techzone: http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?94,63540,63540#msg-63540 It seems they are stepping in and taking over the current mess of Botmill orders. I've contacted Kimberly via email and she has been very helpful in confirming that my order will be on its way to me within the next day or 2. I'm hoping that my full lasercut Mendel kit will arrive within the neby brad - General

I placed my order with Botmill for the full lasercut Mendel kit on 21 Sep. The order status changed to "Order Complete & Dispatched" within a day or 2 which got me excited. But since then I have been trying to get a tracking number out of them. Gil was quick to email in the beginning to confirm my order, and has replied to several of my subsequent emails promising to provide the tracking no.by brad - General
Hi All I'm from PE, South Africa and have become intrigued by the RepRap concept. After some deliberation about whether or not to build one up from scratch, I eventually decided to go with the Lasercut kit from Botmill as I hope it will save me some time in getting my Mendel up and running. I've ordered it and now anxiously await its arrival. There doesn't seem to be too much going on in ZA arby brad - South Africa, Cape Town RepRap User Group
