What is weird is that after reversing the filament to clear the problem, cutting the stripped piece and extruding again, it extrudes perfectly as much or as long as I want, but as soon as I print, it fails.by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I guess I could shoot it with my temp gun and see if it's actually 225C, maybe my sensor is faulty. Could it be my power supply? How would I go about checking this?by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I don't think it's the hot end is faulty. I have the temp probe and it always shows the tip is at 225C So you are saying I should release the spring pressure as much as possible (when it fails to print) and then slightly push the filament and see if it moves? I'm pretty sure I've done this, but I'll try anything again to help rule out my problem.by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I've also tried adjusting my spring tension on the two pressure screws. I've made it extra tight with same result, in the middle and backed almost all the way out. Nothing changes the outcome.by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I use slic3r and have 2 versions, I've tired both with the same exact results, the first layer doesn't even get down before the filament stops flowing.by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
No matter what I try to print, it strips the filament inside the extruder and stops feeding it through. I can pause the print, and tell it to extrude 5mm, but nothing comes out. I have to reverse the filament and pull on the filament to get it to back out. I can see where the filament is being stripped/where it stopped feeding through. I've had this problem for months now and have all but givenby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
Just a bump to hopefully keep this thread alive. I haven't let the dream die yet, hopefully with a little more info and help we can make it happen.by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I emailed Colin from Makerfarm and he thought it might be a filament problem, but I have a little bit of the last roll that I used and tried that with the same results. I then remembered I had a few feet of the original roll I got from him and tried that with the same results.by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
Yesterday I tried to print a large print and 4 hours into the print it stopped extruding the plastic. I tried to print several things this morning and it always starts to print just fine, but after a few layers it stops pushing out plastic. I've tried to print 3 different things and all 3 have done this. I've pulled the filament out (3mm abs) and snipped the melted piece off, then fed it throughby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
For the most part it worked, but because it sat so long the left side came off the glass and started creating obvious problems. It was a learning experience for me and at least I tried. Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions!by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
IT'S WORKING!!!!by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I'm sure I've done everything backwards/wrong, but I've got nothing to lose. I've let the print sit for 14 hours, I resliced.......but I'm waiting for the hot end to warm up right now. I'll extrude a few mm of plastic and see what happens. I couldn't find a screw long enough, so I put an allen head wrench through the hole with a piece of plastic around it, which held it in place and allowed me toby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
"Once the plastic has cooled down, it will shrink a bit. Your top layer will not be where you expect it to be. That's going to create an adhesion issue. The other adhesion challenge will come from the top plastic layer possibly being a bit colder than you have previously optimized for." I thought about this and thought I might try spraying it with hair spray to see if that will help.by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
Some may find my multiple posts annoying, but maybe it will help someone else in some way down the road. I think I've decided to just find a longer screw for the endstop. This way I can possibly use it in the future for similar situations. It seems that on taller prints, this longer screw will hit the top plate where the threaded and smooth rod go through. So if anyone else decides to try this, jby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I noticed that the LCD screen shows the exact position of the Z axis, but not when you tell it to home. I thought about just pressing the switch when it got to 0 on the LCD, but like I said, it doesn't count the Z axis movements when you are telling it to home. I guess I could move my carriage up and out of the way, cut my Z end stop from it's hole, drill a new hole up higher where I need it andby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I think I'm on the right track, but my endstop is now my problem. I can tell it that 39.74 (that's my exact measurement, the 37.24 was a guess) is Z home position and it seems to work, but the machine still needs to hit the endstop and doing this manually just isn't going to work, because when I tell it to start the print, it's going to home in the back corner and will also need to hit the endstoby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
In Pronterface, options, printer settings I see a "Z home Position" is 0.00 Do I just measure with my digital calipers from the print bed to where my print left off and (which is 37.24mm) and change the 0.00 to 37.24?by vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
What I have been working on is opening the file in Sketchup and cutting off everything that has already printed, then taking whats left and starting from there. I thought I would take the hot end down to where the print left off and get it a papers width between the print and the hot end. I have to now tell the printer that 3" up off the print bed is actually home, this is the part I can't figureby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
I have a rather large print that failed after 4 hours. It's a 6 hour print and I'm wondering if I can continue the print somehow? For some reason my extruder stropped extruding, which I have cleared the jam and it's extruding again. It actually failed in a perfect place, it just finished the last layer so it seems that I should be able to just continue printing on the flat surface, is this possibby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
You've given me some really good info. I'll give it a try. Thanks for all the help!by vetteguy112233 - Printing
That's great information, but I've got a lot of ABS. Any tips for using it, or does it just not work?by vetteguy112233 - Printing
My son has a little E-flite Blade MCX helicopter and broke a piece. Yeah the piece is only $4, but I would like to make it if possible. See the following link for a picture of the item: It's the white piece that I'm trying to recreate. I've spec'd it out with my digital calipers to the best of my ability and have recreated it in Google Sketchup. I've attached the Gcode and SKP files. When I tby vetteguy112233 - Printing
I wasn't near my programs this morning, so I couldn't try it, but I just opened Netfabb basic and it seems to work so I guess I'm on the right track.by vetteguy112233 - Slic3r
I've noticed that Slic3r won't let you do decimals. I had something that I had to scale 24.3 and it wouldn't let me do the .3 or am I missing something? I just used Netfabb basic for the scaling since the person who made the file was nice enough to include the scale dimensions. As for making my item the correct size, I've got Slic3r, Netfabb, Sketchup and a few others. Let't say I download a filby vetteguy112233 - Slic3r
I've downloaded several files over the past month that have obviously been smaller than "normal" size. Most of them have instructions on how much to scale them, but what about STL files that don't list the scale size, how do you figure it out? One file I found needs to be EXACTLY a certain size and it's way to small, so how do you figure it out?by vetteguy112233 - Slic3r
As confusing as this is....it actually makes sense! As mentioned I tried to have Netfabb fix my model and it added all kinds of lines. I now understand why it did this. I will try the other methods mentioned about looking inside and erasing non needed sections, but I'm learning! A big thanks to everyone who took the time to answer.by vetteguy112233 - Slic3r
I assume it's a setting in Slic3r, but I recently made a hollow cube and put a marble inside. I noticed that my printer was printing the posts diagonally, see attempted diagram. 1________2 . . . 4_________3 It prints from 1 to 3 then 4 to 2 and repeat. I noticed that I could have put the marble in much earlier, but because it was going diagonally it would have hit the marble, where if it was gby vetteguy112233 - General Mendel Topics
Well, I decided to try again and this time I was successful! I did a 50mm hollow cube and used a different method. Last time I made my measurement marks in the center of each side and then connected each line with the line tool, then deleted that square in the middle that I just made. I did that for all 6 sides, which left me with a non 3d interior, which I had to add lines to make it 3d again. Tby vetteguy112233 - Slic3r
I'm scared to put time into any other project. This was suppose to be a very easy hollow cube and yet for some reason it has errors and won't slice. Any and all help/advice is much appreciated since I'm at the mercy of those who have already been in my shoes and know what is wrong.by vetteguy112233 - Slic3r
Here is the SKP file, hope it helps figure out what/where I went wrong???by vetteguy112233 - Slic3r
