I'll supply comics when I can, if there's interest.by Nudel - RepRap magazine
I have an arcol v3, and it have taken a lot of abuse this last year, and with a few tweaks it "Just Works"(TM) flawless day in and day out. Can't see why the arcol v4 would be any less excellent.by Nudel - General
It would depend on what you already have on your printer. Herringbone gears for the extruder is nice. Switching to T2.5 belts is a good upgrade from T5. Metal/machined pulleys can be an important upgrade depending on how good your printed pulleys are. Some people like z screw constraints, I have better experience with a floating x gantry, and I'm switching to M5 z leadscrews to eliminate wobble.by Nudel - General
I'd use pin9 until I had the second extruder finished, and worry about it then. You can also connect the fan directly to 12v and a switch, and power it when needed. I find I can't have my fan turn on and off as it fluctuates the temperature too much for PID to keep up. But you can use any spare pin to hook up a fan. From this schematic pick one from AUX-4, and make the appropriate changes to tby Nudel - General
Inspired by Greg I also use a couple of layers of silicone washers made from a heat mat (like this: ) on my gregstruder. I've used it for almost a year now, and it works beautifully. The tension is very high, but they have more give and caters for uneven filament way better than when I used a spring.by Nudel - General
You can mount a gregstruder on a sells x-carriage (I have mounted a regular wades on it, with the same spacing), but it will only mount at a 90 degree angle, which will limit your z and/or x print area significantly. There are some adaptors out there, but if you are going to replace the extruder anyway, I recommend you also print an Open X carriage, or get some lm8uus and print one of the many pby Nudel - General
My guess is it's tooling holes to hold the work piece while machining. I like to attach my thermistor to a ring cable shoe (instead of cementing it to the heater), and thus the m3 screw holes on the arcol is perfect to hold said cable shoe in place.by Nudel - General

Most of us have sold at least one set of RepRap parts, does that make us all classified as sellers, and biased when it comes to giving advice? Sellers with a bad reputation that try to use the forum to advertise, will very quickly be shouted down. This is why we don't see many of them around these parts. Also, many sellers do have a link to their shop in the signature already, and that isn't anyby Nudel - General
I use Super Lube (PTFE Grease) on both the smooth rods + lm8uu, stainless steel leadscrew + copper nut and extruder gears. It holds up for a good while. From what I understand, the issue with petroleum based grease is it will wear down plastic parts, but I've seen no wear on my extruder gears so far. Some say lithium grease is better suited for plastic-on-plastic lubrication.by Nudel - General
I test extrude 5mm of PLA fine at 185C and 300 mm/min, though I can only extrude 10-15mm at a time before it can't keep up and stalls. Keep in mind test extruding is not a good way to test temperature nor speed, as they can be way higher than real world numbers used while printing.by Nudel - General
I have the same experience with far less adhesion for PLA on glass when cleaning with acetone. Dish washing liquid, vinegar and a thorough rinsing in the sink works for me.by Nudel - General
You should also be careful of heat rising from the heated bed warping the x carriage. I recommend your first ABS print is a x-carriage and extruder.by Nudel - General
Glad to be of assistance. Welcome to the RepRap community!by Nudel - General
There are plenty of ready-made xml config files around, I've seen them linked on the forum several times. But - to be a bit brutal - why bother using time on software that isn't compatible with RepRap in the first place. I personally prefer slic3r + pronsole.py (the console version of pronterface, running on a headless raspberry pi), but still use the pronterface gui to preview the gcode. Curaby Nudel - General
From what I understand you need a "custom" xml config file to run a RepRap from repg. I suggest you stay with Cura, or use Pronterface or Repetier with Slic3r.by Nudel - General

I recommend self sourcing of you have the time to do it. Not because it's much cheaper (though it can be, depending on shipping cost, taxes etc), but because you'll know where to source the individual parts if/when somethings breaks. You'll get to know your RepRap better and don't have to battle with dodgy sellers which there sadly are plenty of.by Nudel - General
I'd advice you use the simpler slic3r instead of sfact. The other choices are good to start out with. Remember to try out other firmwares (like marlin) and software (like Cura and repetier-host) so you are sure you use what's best for you, and don't get locked down to only one package.by Nudel - General
Yes, LulzBot sells RepRap printers and are recommending Slic3r to their customers. With money earned with open source RepRap hardware and software, they sponsor an update so Sound can take time off from other projects to work on Slic3r. LulzBot get a better product for their customers, and the whole RepRap community benefits. Win-win for everyone. I doubt we'll ever get to know the price they paby Nudel - General
MrJohn Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You can sponsor an update? How much does that > cost? That would of course depend on how long it takes to add, and if there's interest and reason for the feature to be added, but programming on demand is not cheap. You could ask Sound for a quote, or make a donation to show your support. I love the new interface in 0by Nudel - General
Just to nitpick a tiny bit; it's not version 9.0, it's version 0.9.0. (Or actually 0.9.1 now).by Nudel - General
You could also hook up a (wireless?) doorbell to your x or y endstop, so it triggers when homing after the print is finished. Would be convenient to carry with you if you're outside or elsewhere where you can't hear your printer.by Nudel - General
As far as I can tell, the design process of i3 (and really most printers) is not public nor is every little thing continuously documented because it's in rapid development, and doing that would only slow the process down. The slowdown would come less from the time to document, and more from the constant nagging from everybody about when it's finished. ^_^ Relax, guys. Prusa i3 is done when it'sby Nudel - General
Interesting, thanks for the write-up. Is the printed parts in ABS or PLA? Would love to see how a 3mm PLA extruder like that would work.by Nudel - General
Afaik, both Sprinter and Marlin supports SD cards, and you can upload the file to the SD card via pronterface. Marlin also supports LCD and interface keypads.by Nudel - General
RepRap and its derivative are all open source, so you are free to modify and add to the design in any way you like. May I suggest though, that you start out building a regular Prusa V2 as your first printer, before you start experimenting. It's so much easier to build a custom printer when you have a working printer available to make the parts, plus you're going to need the experience you get frby Nudel - General
I suggest staring out with 3mm (cheaper, no difference from 1.75mm if you use a gregstuder or similar) and PLA (since you don't have a heated bed) with 0.5mm nozzle (simpler to get good prints with a larger nozzle to begin with).by Nudel - General
You can get a J-Head with 0.25mm nozzle if you ask reifsnyderb.by Nudel - General
