Nice one - thanks Bob - just the part I thought I had identified.by AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Hi there people The squaring the axis page mentions using bed-height-spacer-31mm_1off. I think I have identified it, but could anyone direct me to an image of this part? Cheersby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Hello All Any updates on a reliable and reasonable source of plastic in the UK? I am guessing ABS is the best to start with? Cheersby AgeingHippy - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Hi Viktor I purchased the pre-assembled boards from Makerbot. Cheersby AgeingHippy - General
Hi All I have pre-assembeled Makerbot 3G electronics (purchased about 4 months ago). I am approaching the point where I will need to start working on the electronics and was wondering if I need to update the firmware on the motherboard if I wish to run with the latest stable version of Reprap Host. I will be using a stepper motor using a geared extruder and I am aware Makerbot use a servo motoby AgeingHippy - General
nophead Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why? If the the triangle is equilateral the feet > should all be flat. erm... basically because I did not really understand what you were saying... I thought you were talking about twisting one of the vertices.. Anyway, after I figured out what you were getting at I managed to sort out the problem. Thanks Chrisby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Thanks Chris I will give that a bash - it means that one of the feet will be standing on the edge of a vertice rather than the flat. Been *many* months since starting on this road but now I have a stable home with a study for my repraping and a garage for my heavier tools so getting on with it in earnest now. Hey guys I have a question about the frame. I have just assembled the frame and frame ends, jigging the triangular sides with J1 and when putting them together J2 apart as specified here. The frame now rocks on 2 opposing feet like a wonky table. I need to shorten one of the (not so) vertical bar distance by as much as 3mm to remove the wobble. My question is should I remove the wobble or keeby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Hi Ian Thanks for the feedback. On recommendation by AKA47 I have decided to follow the heater block rout pioneered by nophead. Adrian has posted an updated hot end design on the wiki here which has links to suppliers for the resistors... I have asked Leeds metal Supermarket for a quote on aluminium and brass rod to make the block from. Once I get feedback from them I will post info here.by AgeingHippy - United Kingdom RepRap User Group

Hear Hear!! I think that is something of an oversight!! I agree with Jesse - That page could do with inclusion of the 'official' reprap printers... Maybe someone who is sharp and clever could do it... Sebastian??by AgeingHippy - General
Hey people Stupid question, but I got myself a crimper see here and now wish to crimp these onto my wires... I cannot seem to find instructions anywhere. Which slots should be used and which way round? confused - I thought crimping would be the easy part. help pleaseby AgeingHippy - Controllers
Hello All Does anyone have a UK source for insulated nichrome wire? Cheersby AgeingHippy - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
cool - thanks guys. I will get one off ebayby AgeingHippy - Controllers
Hey people Looking at the ATX PSUs on ebay most say they have a 20/24 pin connector... on the makerbot built motherboard the plug is a 20 pin plug. Am I going to need to get a 24 - 20 pin adapter or is it in fact a 20 pin with an additional 4 pin which makes the 24 pin connector? Just don't want to buy a psu and find I still need to sort the plugs out. thanks for any advice / clarification.by AgeingHippy - Controllers
Hey people I am giving up trying to source an old PC to nick the PSU so have decided to buy one off ebay. They are surprisingly cheap anyway... So, how many watts would give me sufficient room to grow? The wiki states a 12V supply capable of delivering at least 5 Amps - giving us 60 Watts. This is of course sans Heated bed and only one extruder. So, how many watts does one need for a decent hby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Hi Laszlo Good luck with your venture. I would just like to comment on your paying options. Personally I would be very wary of paying an unknown start-up by wire transfer. I would feel much more comfortable using something like paypal. It is easy to set up a paypal account and it does give the buyer a little protection so if you are genuine then I would recommend you look at that option. cheeby AgeingHippy - For Sale

Hello all I am currently located in York and have no workspace.... so nothing happening with my build although I have everything except nichrome wire and a PSU. Does anyone know of a hackerspace in York? I did a net search and found a yahoo groups for York Hackerspace but it seems dormant. I have emailed some chap who seemed to be trying to organise but no response... anyone in the know?by AgeingHippy - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Hey cluso That is exactly what I am thinking about. I think from the responses is that the heat conducting properties of the stainless is still too high. Probably what would improve matters would be a PTFE washer of say 2 mm thickness between the stainless and brass. Pwerhaps even PTFE tape around the thread where the stainless and brass join to minimise the contact further.... will have to wby AgeingHippy - General
Hello All I wonder if anyone could clarify a few points for me. Initially there were a number of modifications required to be made to the Makerbot Gen 3 electronics to match up to the reprap specification. Now I see the page PCB adaptions for Mendel states only 2 headers need to be added. WTF?? how come the modifications required have changed so radically? Why can we not see who has made theby AgeingHippy - Controllers
I have been wondering about liquid cooling since noticing mention of it on the forum a short while ago. I think we have a problem in that any such solution would be inefficient. Too much energy is going into warming the water - so to speak. This also applies to heat sinks to a lesser degree. Both solutions add to the nozzle size. Perhaps the crux is a suitable thermal break. We need to concentrby AgeingHippy - Plastic Extruder Working Group
So even though stainless is about 11 times worse heat conductor than brass it is still too good a conductor. Is that the gist?by AgeingHippy - General
OK so using an extended brass nozzle with a 'melt chamber', a stainless barrel attached to the plastic of your choice. Surely that would beat the copper/plastic join? I imagine it should not be too hard to machine? Somehow the problems with extruders seem to be the hot/cold join. ??by AgeingHippy - General
a daydream If I had a well equipped workspace, an operating reprap and buckets of energy I would experiment with a nozzle of brass which attaches to a metal which is a poor heat conductor. The metal with the higher expansion coef screwing into the other.. but anyway, why not just heat the nozzle (say an extended bighead style with 5-10 mm melting void) and link to a low conductor which will perhby AgeingHippy - General
