Hello All Looking at my H21LOB packaging there is warning about handling Electrostatic Sensitive Devices. I have looked up the topic on the net and find talk about ESD wrist straps, mats etc. These require some further investment so I was wondering what you guys & gals out there do in the real world? Are the cheap (1 - 2 quid) straps effective? What does one connect the crocodile clips to iby AgeingHippy - Controllers

Hey people I think I have found an alternative resource for the M4 insert. hobbys in South London sells what looks like the business. Of possible importance is that this insert does not have a locking grub screw and the base is hexagonal not round. The web site does not have any photos of the insert but I have just been down to collect it and it looks pretty much like the one supplied by Conradby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Hi Joshee Check with iPrint, but I think the MAXI kit you linked is the makerbot format. If you are building a Mendel you may be interested in getting the Midi kit I got my parts from Makerbot because I was in a hurry and unfortunately found out later that makerbot does not consider the opto-switches part of the Gen 3 electronics!! Hey Ron The 3 PCBs arrived today. Thank you very much. That was very kind of you >< Cheers Charlesby AgeingHippy - Controllers
Hey Sharon Have you done any strength tests? I would imagine tension tests would be more applicable than compression tests in this case. Just wondering if the ink decreases the adhesion of the separate layers. Cheersby AgeingHippy - General
Hello All I wonder if anyone has identified another source for the M4 insert used in Adrian's geared extruder rather than the suggested source here. They charge MORE for UK than Europe and the postage is higher than the cost of the item!! That's just taking the piss. Any other more reasonable priced sources would be appreciated. Cheersby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Hey Ron That is extremely kind of you. I have sent you a PM Cheersby AgeingHippy - Controllers
cheers Chris Did you have to pay the extortionate handling fee that the carrier charges (eg royal mail is 8 quid) if VAT / duties are to be paid?by AgeingHippy - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Hey people I see Mouser will cover the customs duties but small print for international orders says something about VAT collected from customer.... if so I would imagine the mail handling charge would be levied as well.... I initially thought everything was included in the price but now am not so sure. Has anyone purchased a large order from Mouser and can they tell me if there were charges leby AgeingHippy - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Hello All I stupidly assumed the opto-endstop were included in the generation 3 electronics mostly assembled from Makerbot, but I guess opto-endstop v2.1 is not part of the Gen 3 electronics. Never mind. I have sourced the parts from Mouser but do not have the PCB. Buying 3 PCBs from Makerbot will cost me $3 PLUS $30 for shipping. Cheapest I can find is RepRapSource.com which will cost 3.75 Eby AgeingHippy - Controllers
Hey people A question about connecting the motherboard and extruder controller. There is the connection from the SDA and SCL on the motherboard to the D9 and D10 pins on the extruder controller according to the wiring diagram. The SDA SCL on the motherboard is no problem as this is the standard 2.54mm pitch but the D9 and D10 pins on the extruder controller look to be further apart. Could someby AgeingHippy - Controllers

hey people Is there a reason we are looking at 100K Ohm thermistors? I have found this one which has a tolerance of 1% and is only £0.42 as opposed to this one which looks more like the standard one but costs £2.36. Is there any reason or pitfall in using one over the other besides cost? Thanksby AgeingHippy - Controllers
Hey Tony Yes, I see that, but he uses 8 way ribbon cable from the extruder controller to the mounting on the extruder head - 4 wires for the motor, 2 for the thermistor and 2 for the nichrome.by AgeingHippy - Controllers
Hey guys Am I missing something here? It looks like Adrian uses the 10 way ribbon cable to power the extruder stepper motor as seen in his mendel wiring video Given the discussion here it would seem the wiring he is using is not adequate, but it clearly is!! Is AWG 20 or 22 very conservative then? or perhaps the ribbon cable there is not AWG 28? Is the AWG 28 adequate for the heater and (I assby AgeingHippy - Controllers
Just to say I received my parts today, roughly a week or so after ordering them. Looking good Thanks Brian. Just a quick question, I have the barrel with a separate nozzle. If I wind my nichrome around the barrel above the nozzle I will have a rather long hot zone.... Has anyone actually wrapped the nichrome around the nozzle instead? I guess heating would take longer but would then be ratherby AgeingHippy - For Sale
Hi all I have 16 washers left after my carriage build. On closer inspection I see the lower carriage assembly has 5 washers on the 4 diagonal bearings. What is the purpose of these extra washers?? Can someone please clarify.by AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Ahh Jonathan on the ball as ever That explains it clearly. Thanksby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
yea - I have used the 2 hole one and it sits fine. I needed to trim a little to clear the bearing in that corner... I am concerned about the stiffness and having to replace it later will be a bit of an irritation... well... gotta go visiting now although truth be told, I would rather continue building my printerby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Hello All I am currently constructing my thin sheets and have a few questions.... 1) I am using the aluminium from a cider can. This seems awfully flimsy. Has anyone had to change their thin sheet to some stiffer form of tin or am I overly concerned? 2) The template given by the dfx file accessed from here gives a different shape for the x-flag given in this jpg. Can anyone please clarify? Pleby AgeingHippy - General Mendel Topics
Hello All I have found this thread by reifsnyderb where he sells various parts for the hot end of the extruder. A few questions... Regarding the PTFE/PEEK hybrid thermal barrier. Is this a proven design and now stable? I see nophead did a review on it here but does not have a definitive answer to this question. Also, why would one choose a separate hex nut nozzle attached to the heater barreby AgeingHippy - General
Yes - I wish this shop had been established 3 weeks ago. I could have saved significantly more than £100 going by these prices rather than sourcing things myself. Malesh - this will make things easier for those in Europeby AgeingHippy - For Sale
Hello All I am still in the process of ordering electronic parts along with cables and plugs etc. from a single source (Mouser in this instance). As I don't have any experience in this stuff I need your advice. Sorry for the elementary questions but I do not want to waste money on the wrong components.. Hey guys A question for those that have already constructed a mendel. If I do use this rod and decide to replace it later, is it easy enough to take out the old smooth rod and put in some new stuff? Cheersby AgeingHippy - General
A post in this forum by kukusikssss tries to send an email to a .ru address.... is this dodgy?by AgeingHippy - Administration, Announcements, Policy
lol - and this manor you consider suitable - will that have a large ball room and grounds you can lose a herd of horses in? The materials cost of the RP parts is approximately £40 so I would guess you should at least charge materials cost + postage else you lose £200 in addition to your build cost. I do hope I get to sell a few sets before you destroy the market so I can recoup my build cost aby AgeingHippy - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Yo nudel The scour marks are about 0.1 to 0.2mm deep. Well, 0.2 is perhaps an exageration but I can certainly feel them. As for rusting.... I am in sunny England lol My feeling is to go for the Stainless 304 or perhaps the silver steel...by AgeingHippy - General
