Hi David, been working on a Mendle with a Diamond that had no values in the M305, what were the defaults?by WesBrooks - Ormerod
I think there's still life in the Ormerod flavor yet! An easy to build suite of parts that have been tweeked to minimise the fractures and a close look at an evolved design (with different goals) will hopefully spark interest again.by WesBrooks - Ormerod
What are the bed support arms you mention in your signature? I've got the three piece bed support and x-arm kit but can't find anything else on your or 3D Print & Stuff's website?by WesBrooks - Ormerod
Interesting read. Having 'making things difficult to copy' as a development goal strikes as sharpening the executioners axe before you drop your head into the block. I understand what you mean but you are also making it more difficult for you to make and sale, increasing rejects in manufacturing and cost, cost which will ultimately need to be paid for by the consumer. Rapid development is also gby WesBrooks - General
Started building things to replace broken bits and creating a virtual assembly to validate the new CAD. This picture gives the impression things are further along than they are. Many things appear to not fit - which is what I half expected when reverse engineering from STL data. The bits that are laser cut were not reverse engineered. The dxf files were imported and used as scetches. Likewise tby WesBrooks - Ormerod

I was looking at the machined components on Ooznest a couple of days ago! I've been calibrating the printer over the past week weeks and struggling with bridging. After a few nights of fighting I chanced on a mention of the 0.5mm nozzle. Guess my setting of 0.4 was wrong! :-D That aside I printed a y-axis motor mount and the z-bearing clamps from the direct reverse engineered cad. Close, but notby WesBrooks - Ormerod
Hi I've been using Slic3r for a few years now and had moved onto using the dev releases from the website. This was on windows. Some time ago spotted the '1.3.0' release on github, but the website continued to ship '1.3.0dev' releases. Finally got around to updating my machine to dual boot windows/Ubuntu and found the dev realse for linux. I've just spotted that this is now titled '1.3.1dev'! Soby WesBrooks - Slic3r
Afternoon All, I've attached a PDF version of the physical build section of the online manual. It's a big mother at 160+ pages but should offer no web related hang ups and give you the option of printing if you really want to loose lots of paper! The formatting for this is currently inconsistant but I've tried to include all the information from the different tabs. This is a work in progress,by WesBrooks - Ormerod
In-laws, friends laptop now set up and winging it's way back to them so I have a few days spare before helping them get used to the new system. Peal back the skin of Win 10 and there is a lot of very familiar GUIs and such that don't seem to have changed much since I tinkered with registry settings on XP a few years ago! Personally prefer Ubuntu but don't fancy guiding them through the learning cby WesBrooks - Ormerod
Slowly. I have but been tackling parts in the evenings up until very recently, a need to revisit my CV and get that out took over last week and setting up a computer for someone else this week. So far I've created a first draft parametric FreeCAD file for the following parts: 547_y-idler 548_y-motor-bracket 469_z-motor-brace 437_z-lower-mount 438_z-upper-mount 527_z-corner-bracket 503_z-foot 54by WesBrooks - Ormerod
Swapping the plug with one with easily removable pins can't be a bad thing! Maybe a bit more chunky but doubt the extra weight is significant.by WesBrooks - Ormerod
Thanks all for the hints. Got a while before I've got through the CAD work I want to do before building. Yeah, I didn't say where I was from in the first post but did in the second. The non-UK suggestions may still be useful for other people searching the forum for the same information.by WesBrooks - General
@Cheeseandham: I think all the information on the tabs is on your site but it is one after the other. As you read the page you find the instructions sort of repeating and that appears to be the tabs one after the other.by WesBrooks - Ormerod
Stainless is fair enough. I had not thought of that because I am used to it being avoided on cars and engines due to it being weaker but that's far from a problem on printers!by WesBrooks - General
Ok, that's fair enough. Will sort a BOM soon. Hoping to reduce the rage of bolt sizes and type used but may forget that if it doesn't make much financial sense! Is it just zinc plated to avoid much corrosion? Edit: Not that it makes any difference to your suggestions but I'm UK based.by WesBrooks - General
Hi all. Working towards a build of a second ormerod reusing the extrusions, rods, rod bearings, and Duet. Who do you use for low volume nuts and bolts or do you over stock and eventually use? Thanks.by WesBrooks - General
As a musing/aside ftom your described situation we're now slowly getting toward the poimt where there are so many printers out there that to expect to earn a living from a printer is similar to expecting to earn ftom an office laser printer (ie printing text/pictures rather than desktop sintering!). What works in our favour is the skill required to run these machines at there best, particularly iby WesBrooks - General
Use the government sites to determine if you need to pay tax such as: At a quick glance it is unclear whether you could get the first £1000 of income tax free under the self employment exemption if you are already receiving a taxable income. QuoteRGN01 I've been watching this thread with some amazement and, frankly, disbelief! I'll second that! First off with no vested financial interest I would have no problem recommending the Duet 3D products to anyone that has a measure of computing knowledge, not tool shy, and are capable of compitently using a search engine in order to find basic help. How's the build and commissioning coming along? Not had much time on mine recently but am up to about 8 of the 24ish parts reverse engineered into FreeCAD. Edit: 27 parts, but not intending to reverse engineer the extruder or hotend as I intend to replace them before the first build.by WesBrooks - Ormerod
In traditional extrusion (at least single screw extrusion) as extrusion rates increase the difference between materials increase. With some materials under high extrusion rates the heated zones are not needed, the friction and shear in the material is enough to generate the heat to melt the polymer. I wonder if we are getting close to that. Live view of the duty on the heater may give some indicaby WesBrooks - General
Hello all, I'm using reverse engineering the Ormerod 2 files to FreeCAD files an excersize to help me get back to speed with CAD and in advance of modifying the basic design to accommodate a trapezoidal lead screw that a bought some months ago. I'm about 4 files though so far but think (/hope!) I have tackled some of the more tricky ones. I know there are many improvements I could consider but mby WesBrooks - Ormerod
Hi all, I'd like a 2D drawing of the profile cross section. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Fall back is measiring it, but that would be less accurate. Thanks.by WesBrooks - Ormerod
I've recently found out that non-linear extrusion correction appears critical for PETG. I'm running Titan, V6, 0.4 nozzle, and 220C. Without it I was stuct to about 40mm/sec print. With it I did a range of prints from 80-180. These were simple test geometries. Solid parts measuring 35 * 35 * 4mm. I think thermal stress issues maybe exagetrated if you are close to drawing the polymer from the nozzby WesBrooks - Printing
What options are there? Do the owning companies have extra rights to your code? Thingverse. Owned by makerbot. Slack. Think this is independent from the major players but proprietary. Github. Could be about to be owned by MS. Source Forge. Owned by various companies and had engaged in some dubious tactics bundling unwanted software with downloads.by WesBrooks - General
What extruder are you running and what is that tab on the outside of the build surface at min y, max x? I appreciate our goals are different to those of RapRapPro when they made this but can see you've tackled a few of the things on my list. The bottom bracket was the only printed component to fail on the ormerod 2 I built for work but many parts have bust in the recent build. Just developing thby WesBrooks - Ormerod
