Great work with this firmware!!
Have you thought about adding support for a 4th axis similar to the E axis on the current RepRap FiveD firmware used for the Extruder which is also similar to the A axis on CNC machines using emc?

m5x20-mudguard-washer.par 100 pack 1 95229A910 mcmaster.com
Do do get these mudguards from McMaster! They are 22mm outside diameter and do not fit next to each other in the row of 4 bearings on the Mendel X Axis (Motor Bracket).
Instead you can get washers with 3/16"ID and 3/4"OD (~4.7mm ID ~19mm OD)

How do you connect the Blue and White IDC connectors in your kit to the ribbon cables?

For Sale
To account for the slower screw driven axis in combination with the "makerbot dc gearmotor" I set the extruder speed (flowrate) to a low PWM value (between 180 and 200) and I set the extrusion width (ratio) to a higher value (2.3)
Skeinforge:
Fill -> Infill Width over Thickness (ratio): 2.3
Carve -> Perimeter Width over Thickness (ratio): 2.3
Carve -> Layer Thickness (mm): 0.6

It sets the temperature for the "Chamber" or heated bed.
This conflicts with current FiveD firmware use of M110 to tell the Extruder Controller to use the TrimPot for the current/PWM adjustment to the stepper motor.

In the current FiveD firmware SVN 3417
If MOTHERBOARD=1 (direct drive) in configuration.h then compiling fails with this error:
Error in extruder.pde
-----------
In member function 'void extruder::waitForTemperature()':
error: 'target_celcius' was not declared in this scope In function 'void process_string(char*, int)':

Changing the name to "target_celsius" fixes that error.

Firmware - mainstream and related support
My Mendel uses 36 watts just by being on with 3/4 of the steppers enabled (default) and with the extruder heater off. With the heater turned on (from cold start) it goes up to 59/60 watts. This is measured using a Kill-a-watt electricity meter connected between the electrical plug and the ATX power supply. Also, ATX power supplies are generally not very efficient.

It seems Perimeter Width only deals with the distance between the infill and the inner most shell.
Try reducing Infill Width which seems to work on the shells as well as the infill.

Hi Casainho!
Try lowering the the Carve setting Perimeter width over Thickness (ratio).
