I can't remember what the term is called so I have a hard time googling it. Basically there was a setting to print a perimeter around the object that is not part of the object on first layer. So if I was printing a 10mmx10mmx10mm cube, it'll print maybe a 16mmx16mm square first, then print the cube inside it. How can I turn this on? I can't find it in ReplicatorG under Skeinforge. I'm print

Retract appears to be at 1mm. I attached a screen shot of the section.

Thanks for getting back to me. So you think retract is causing it to jam? What is your suggestion? I can try reducing the head temp for starters.
I know the bed it hot for pla, but the ToM defaults to 100. I had reduced it to 80, and was planning on reducing to 60. But it shouldn't affect layer 7 though.

I have an old Thing-O-Matic from Makerbot running Sailfish firmware with acceleration. I've been printing ProtoParadigm PLA at 210F without issues mostly. With acceleration I can get 80mm/s print speed.
I recently got some Monoprice PLA since I was running low. I fed the PLA through for 1 min to push out any remaining PLA from ProtoParadigm. Then the same gcode was used in ReplicatorG at 210

Sorry guys, I've decided to go with a MendelMax instead. I do have about half of the parts printed in natural ABS at 100% fill. Some of the thicker parts do have warping, but I don't think it'll affect anything since they'res the legs at the bottom. Would anyone be interested in them? With some compensation for my plastic of course.

I've decided to build a Mendel separately, since it's worth more to have 2 than have 1 and a pile of plywood

That makes sense. I kept thinking I have the wrong part since the price is different. I'm waiting for my quote.

Thanks for the belt dimensions and z rod length. I'm now looking on Misumi for the HFS5-2020-400 extrusions.

I'm not seeing that price on Misumi. I see $4 for 1 400mm extrusion without precision cut, and $11 for 1 400mm extrusion with precision cut. Did you mean $11 for 1? That'll make

Buback,
What should the belt length be? do they need to be continuous? You mentioned the Z belt needs to be, but I'm not sure about X and Y, I'm guessing it doesn't, and since the frame is 400mm, it should be around 800mm for both x and y?
I flew RC helicopters, so I HAD lots of belts that threw out recently, if only I knew I could use it in a RepRap.
How long should the threaded rod for Z

ah, I see it now. couldn't tell it was above the aluminum frame.
at first glance, I was seeing about $5/bearing for the LM8UU, so I was hesitant. But it seems they're only about $2/bearing, so rGlory's design would work great!

rGlory,
I'm not understanding how your Y rod holder works differently than Buback's. Is looks like it fits in between the extruded aluminum frame too doesn't it? It's the same 400mm frame. also, would your bed design work with bearing supports like this?

Wow thanks guys for all the help! It looks like I'll have to take some time to digest all this. But from what I gathered, the Prism will be more stable due to the extruded aluminum, so the wobbling axis issues found on the Prusa are gone/fixed/improved. I just need 4 NEMA17 motors since it's Mendel design, not Prusa. I like Ultimaker's motor, it's quiet, but they don't list it on their site. I

I'm very interested in building this as well. I currently have a ToM mk7, and I had considered converting it to a Prusa. But after reading up more about Prusa and the conversion I might as well build a new one and have 2! (Or sell one) Since I'm relatively new to RepRaps in general, can you help me put together a parts list? So far your parts list is for someone with a Mendel and wish to conv

Thanks again tsb4k, looks like I've got a lot to learn still. But so far I like the LM8UU linear bearing the best from what I've read. I think the best way for me to do this is get more familiar with the parts and build the frame first. Then I can see if I'm missing any parts and print as needed. I'll read up on the github, lots of info there.
Question regarding the ToM electronics, is it fa

Thanks for the quick reply. What's the 5th stepper for, 2 for z axis?
That's great advice about missing parts after tearing it apart. I'll just have to make sure I got everything before I tear it apart.
I can't seem to find a definite list of what's needed for a Prusa, (hence the 5th stepper question above). I see a big list of things, but it's hard to find out what I need and what I don't n

So I built me a ToM and got it working pretty nicely. Then I find out Prusa is cheaper(too late now), print area's almost 4 times the size and much quieter! Searching through various threads via google I also find out that it's possible and inexpensive to convert to a Prusa with minimal parts.
My question is, has anyone done this successfully? If so, what parts can I recycle from ToM to use i
