Hello GB,
Some of the later versions of SF screwed this up, I went back to a version 10.11.05 and its ok.
Two places is enough though IMHO.
Good luck!

Hi Andrew,
I will be selling them along with same size PT100's for neat hot end solution.
How many people on here would want them ??

Hi,
Can this file swap a single line mcode M101 & replace it with three seperate lines?
ie)
M101
.
replace with
.
A 1
B 2
C 3
Possible to do in SF without going into an editor and mucking about?

Simple documentation is the answer....but that can only come from the author right?
If Enrique issued a tracking list of the features changed, enhanced, moved or deleted it would make the program a lot easier to follow and more people would give him the credit deserved.

I noticed a new feature "bottom" has appeared, what does it do anyone? There is no documentation yet

Hi Greg,
Prusa has done some excellent work here but if im honest I still prefer the lower sample, it might not be as "smooth" but it looks more defined and accurate ??

AFAIK svg files can be turned into gcode....

Not sure where this should be posted for Enrique but here goes....
Ver 2010-07-03 works as expected
Ver 10.08.11 is working but at 50% of 'distance'
* Ver 10.08.19 ouput 50% but on a diff PC works fine !!!! hmmmmm

I have no idea, you would have to ask Enrique that. It is a useful side effect though as you don't have to place your models at zero.
Actually im not seeing any alteration in Z like you report, it may well do XY I dont know but it was more interested in the layer heights as you know.
Quotenophead
You are still left with the problem that your Z=0 needs to be half the filament width

With a layer height set to 0.4mm SF prints the first layer at Z=0.4mm just as one would expect.
I then did the following:
I used an OpenSCAD model that had it's bottom at Z=0 and ran it through Skeinforge.
Then I moved the bottom to -0.2mm and created a new STL file that I ran through Skeinforge with the same results.
The first layer is always printed at layer height!

Hi Uniquebot
What repstrap/reprap are you running?
I have just finished the axes on my Mendel.
When you home you get a slight bounce so you have to set the Z zero slightly above the bed so that you don't hit the bed with the nozzle when homing. I can adjust the Z home slightly on the spring to control the first layer thickness. I wonder if that is why the SF first layer is half normal

My software looks at the z value of the first two layers and uses the difference as the layer height
Does your software convert the gcode file out of SF on the PC or by the control processor on the bot?

My software looks at the z value of the first two layers and uses the difference as the layer height. It then starts with the nozzle that distance above the bed for the first layer
OK. So basically the layer height value is constant for the first & subsequent layers in build.......makes perfect sense. I dont do anything with the code out of SF at the moment so it does matter whe

@emt - Thanks for the tip!. Never tried G92 as far as im concerned that code is not applicable anyway?. I prefer not to self edit files in case different layer heights are called for..could get very confusing!
@nophead - I agree with what you are saying but let me ask you something. Assuming you ran the same settings as ive described 0.32mm layer height....what distance would your firmware calc

Hi Steve,
1-2mm !! WOW that wopuld certainly not work for me. Two reasons 1) Would not stick adequately 2) Would not be flat, it would have a rippled effect.
Im trying to establish if the software needs an option for this because coming from a cnc milling background it makes good practice to keep same Z0 on both computer and machine

Hi nophead,
Layer height in SF is 0.32mm. As noted output is Z0.16
Subsequent lifts between layers are 0.32mm ie) 2nd pass is at Z0.48 then Z0.8 etc

Hi,
Im guessing this is a setting ive missed but im finding the height of my first layer unusual.
OK picture a simple box shaped STL model which is set with the lowest point @ Z0 and the extruder nozzle set Z0 on the table. With the settings im using the gcode output from SF starts at Z0.16 which is too low for me. Im getting the best results by lifting the CAD model up 0.5mm which then places

Thanks guys...glad im not on my own here.
I can appreciate that the developer already has his work cut out changing the code and making enhancements but I think this is equally as important for those of us actually using it. Also, out of curiosity what process is used when users want a particular ehancement or to debate how certain functions work in the SF software ?
I agree with you nophead t

Hi,
I see there is another version thatr has come out just recently. The version I have works ok but then again I would like to keep updated with the advancements in the program. I would like to read a log/update list of the changes in each version but I dont see any, the last one on Fabmethus is Feb this year !!!
Anyone ??

Ian,
Thanks again for your reply. Not having the issues you had I must say, in fact im surprised we have progressed so far so quick to be honest!!
Yes, the laser trick is something we are going to try very soon as it does work for that discipline so it should work for us too. I did read in fact read about it on this forum by a guy who did the same thing.

Thx Ian,
Im new to this field of expertise but on the whole I dont have many issues with MACH. Im just getting one or two problems with small delays hence why I was interested to speak with others using SF with Mach.
Ultimately, we plan to develop and hopefully sell a bolt on kit (Extruder, FW & Electronics USB.) for those people with MACH and a CNC wanting to play around printing objects
